I don't see anything new or inventive coming out from apple in the short term. Their whole AR vision thing is too expensive and a niche product. Their phones are actually losing market share in the USA due to the price point and internationally android phones hold like 70% market share for the same reason. They might get a boost in market share if the eco system opens, but then again why would an android user convert to apple now? What draws people who don't own apple to apple? Even iCar was "something to look forward too" even if it was a pipe dream. Honestly it has become a very one dimensional company now. Phones, watches, and phone extensions i.e. their whole goggle vision bs. Other phone companies are backed by other products. Huawei - no available in the USA but dominating global sales of phones. They also make everything from data centers, storage, modems and routers, and everything in between. Xiaomi - also Chinese and unavailable in the USA. They are also heavily present throughout the world and the EU. They have been pushing digital integration into ecosystems between all digital applications. Phone to car to home. Their phones are meh but are way more affordable and hence they capture a large market. Google pixel - great phone, better camera than the iPhone, but then again after a certain amount of MP you can't tell the difference. Better price point and highly integrated into Google eco system. Sure it's only a 4.6% USA market share phone, but the company has other stuff generating profits as we all know. What does apple do besides overpriced phones, tablets and a watch? No data centers, no other online tools, no new product development. The apple store charges you for breathing and makes you think you're special for doing so. The law suit brought upon them by the DOJ literally states they rip off app developers. I for one think that their excuse ( we were worried about security) for not allowing more integration into their ecosystem by other products is bullshit. They are worried that opening up the ecosystem will show that they have been lagging behind in development of the ecosystem and that the digital platform they run, i.e. the apple store is no different from Google play. The only difference is that you have to pay for a variety of things instead of them being free. Don't get me wrong apple started the race with smart tech, but outside the USA they are losing badly and inside the USA they are also losing footing as similar items with better and more open integration for a lower price point are introduced. The status symbol part is also slowly dropping. Perhaps in china they are still a status symbol, but there are way less people who can afford them than there are people who will buy an alternative. I see their global growth being non existent due to their air of supremacy and nickel and dining you for literally everything in their store. Their business is built on micro transactions post sale which have been pissing users off more and more in life.

> make much sense to me That's a YP not a MP > You act as if the Federal Reserve is stupid for raising rates because it doesn’t directly fix the issues that cause inflation. But the Fed only has monetary policy moves to fix this. They can only change rates, It is. You're doing the exact same thing as them. Then see a control panel and it only has one button: "Jack up rates!" And then all they can do is impusively push it. And push it. And push it. There's no thought given that Gee, maybe our button is unrelated to this issue. Maybe we should control our obsessive impulses. To a guy with a hammer, he hammers everything. But maybe a hammer isn't the right tool for fixing glass or removing a tumor. A responsible hammer owner would say "you need to get a glazier for this problem, or you should go to an oncologist." Unfortunately how we fetishize the Fed trains them to fetishize themselves. They start to believe their own hype. > They cannot reopen China, they cannot stop the pandemic, etc. That's when an intelligent and humble and ethical Fed tells congress: "we're the hammer department. We can treat your baby's measles or your grocery megacorp's price gouging. Find a doctor for the first thing and maybe pass some laws for the second thing. We'll stand by for anything where our tools can actually serve a beneficial purpose." But that doesn't happen. They're like a chiropractor. They can probably fix one or two things, but they've been conditioned to think they can fix everything. And then they do more harm with that blundering. > But their monetary policy moves does treat other things that are necessary for prices to increase. Loans become less attractive, bonds become more attractive, Remember when we covered "causes of THIS inflation"? Those weren't it. Price gouging. China. Closed ports. A viral disease. Housing shortage. Semiconductor hoarding. There weren't any causes that said "loan attractiveness", at least not in the top 50 list of problems. > Your doctor analogy should be more like someone who is sick and the doctor treats the symptoms until they can recover. Except in your analogy the doctor isn't treating the symptoms. Hell, she doesn't even bother looking for symptoms, or diagnosing, or communicating with the patient. > Which sounds like you think rates should be higher to decrease the amount of loans (capital) given out Never said that. Actually said the opposite. Not sure if you're super confused. Or trying to lie about what I said. If this is an accidental misrepresentation of what I said, go back and re-read and retract. Otherwise it will seem your misrepresenting on purpose. > You make it sound like there’s a huge demand of money, I literally said the opposite. It's starting to look very much like you're being deliberate with these false statements. > businesses can expand to make enough cars so they can buy two cars That's not a current problem for businesses, nor a cause of this inflation. > homebuilders can borrow money to build homes That's not a current issue, nor a cause of this inflation.

Depending on the broker there are other automatic actions you can command them to do, e.g. if a call - sell the shares instantly at MP, or if a put - buy back the shares instantly at MP, additionally, some brokers also allow you to just take the call/put profit if it expires ITM and allow them to automatically settle any assignment obligations.

Every few years people come up with Apple is behind the curve.......and then apple come out late and spoils the party for everyone else. They weren't the first with an portable MP3 player, they weren't the first with a tablet, they weren't the first with a laptop or a cell phone.......

Mentions:#MP

It was a risky stock. Even though they dominated the MP3 player market, iPhone was viewed as a big risk that would potentially cannibalize their iPod shares. When I saw the iPhone presentation and having used it, I felt that it was the future. I went all in with a sizable bonus I had shortly after. Most in the industry laughed off the iPhone and Blackberry's market share reached its high 3 years after the release so it was rough. 2008 crash also cut the share price in half so it was stressful to be sure.

Mentions:#MP

Yes. They do make more money than a lot of countries, everyone want access to the technology, their customer base is so loyal, they will pay high prices for any product that Apple makes so it makes why the company would monetize that. I agree. This also explains why Apple is able to charge their customers $999 for a stand for their monitor. While this might be considered a rip-off or scam, according to the company it's not, because Apple is not selling a stand, they’re selling a status symbol. It's a way to say, “Look at me, I have so much money, I can afford to waste it on building a piece of metal that does nothing but hold up a screen.” You are right about how their products are not revolutionary. The first Apple computers were popular in the 1980's, but they were built on thirty years of already established hardware and software. There were eight other MP3 players before the iPod, but it sold because of the way it looked. The only true innovation is how better Apple was at designing the software.

The problem is that China can sell rare earth for much less and still spin a profit. MP can’t compete. The US has already started buying and storing rare earth in case there is a shortage in the future or China tries to withhold. MP just won’t ever become relevant enough to profit from it and I think with all the regulations and environmental factors they must follow, they’ll never make it. China can destroy as much land and create as much pollution as they want while people die to produce rare earth without any consequences. MP just can’t compete with that unfortunately.

It's going to be an AI company. Everybody will have an AI subscription just like Netflix now. Problem is we don't know which one. Before Google there were a ton of search engines. Nobody could tell you if it would be Altavista or Lycos or Yahoo... but then it turned out to be Google. So which AI company will it be? Nobody knows. But probably not the first one out the gate. More likely the winner will take the same approach Apple always takes. Apple sat back for a few years and watched Creative Labs and MP32Go release MP3 players then they came out with the iPod and now everybody thinks Apple invented MP3 players.

With a hard disk – who needs that? And it's so expensive when compared to other MP3 players." Also, most people don't remember, but Apple's public image at the time was not that great. It was regarded as **a "loser" company** (usually the "**beleaguered computer manufacturer**"), so why would people buy a cool electronics device from a failing computer maker instead of the cool guys, like Sony or Panasonic?

They didn't enter dustbunny markets with the iPod and iPhone. People bought various MP3 players and were expanding sales and people loved using them. Nokia and Palm were making the forerunners of the iPhone and people loved using them. What Apple did was to add more polish, better interfaces which made them more accessible to more consumers. But there was at least a market before then. More tech aware people who could handle some of the sharper edges of the product. But that doesn't exist with VR. Even the sort of hardcore nerds that would plop down big money on Steam VR stuff aren't using it. VR is one of those things that sounds like a great idea, but in reality, you won't use it. It reminds me of the graphic equalizer on hifi. People were like "oh wow, I can change the levels of bass and treble" and yeah, you can. And that's fun for 2 weeks. Then you put the sliders back to centre and never touch them again. And what people then realise is never to spend money on a graphic equalizer again.

The big deal is how Microsoft evades taxes. How it lobbies the government and is super litigious to be and maintain its monopoly status. Being an effective monopoly sure does bring ridiculous amounts of money for the owners. So much that they cant even realistically spend it even if they tried. But im sure people like you see nothing wrong with that. >As reported by several news outlets,\[94\]\[95\] an Irish subsidiary of Microsoft based in the Republic of Ireland declared £220 bn in profits but paid no corporation tax for the year 2020. This is due to the company being tax resident in Bermuda as mentioned in the accounts for 'Microsoft Round Island One', a subsidiary that collects licence fees from the use of Microsoft software worldwide. Dame Margaret Hodge, a Labour MP in the UK said, "It is unsurprising – yet still shocking – that massively wealthy global corporations openly, unashamedly and blatantly refuse to pay tax on the profits they make in the countries where they undertake business".\[95\] > >In 2020, ProPublica reported that the company had diverted more than $39 billion in U.S. profits to Puerto Rico using a mechanism structured to make it seem as if the company was unprofitable on paper. As a result, the company paid a tax rate on those profits of "nearly 0%." When the Internal Revenue Service audited these transactions, ProPublica reported that Microsoft aggressively fought back, including successfully lobbying Congress to change the law to make it harder for the agency to conduct audits of large corporations.

That’s like saying other MP3 players existed before the iPod. Obviously, but Apple has a knack for ramping the utility and user experience to levels that finally make it something people want to use them every single day, instead of battling to use them occasionally.

For sure, I think if Reddit gets toppled it will be because some already known player brings another product to market that challenges it. Just like forums died and migrated to Reddit/Facebook groups depending on their niche. I think some other tech player(insert anyone of the many) could come along with some new format that steals market share if not outright replace. Craigslist/facebook MP/offer up is a good recent example of network effects not always lasting.

>Maybe this form factor of the product doesn’t work out that well but once they figure out how to condense it into the size of normal glasses and/or get it to a manageable price, it’ll be the next revolutionary product people use daily I suppose that's possible. Apple doesn't tend to be the first out the door with a major product innovation. MP3 players preceded iPod, BlackBerry preceded iPhone... yada yada. So maybe if they can get the form factor down to that of glasses, it can be what Google Glass was envisioned to be, though I still have my doubts... But for now, I don't see this product in its current iteration or any variation thereof catching on, even if the price was cut in half. I know I lot a lot of fun pursuing my desktop via my Meta Quest 2, playing a few games on my RTX 4090 rig (again, I know the MQ2 is a different type of product)... But it's still a novelty that sits on top of a cabinet that currently needs charged and the dust cleaned off. Will Apple's Vision Pro be any different? I promise this - a demo won't be able to answer that. The only answer will be how many people will buy them and then keep using them regularly. I'm convinced the dropoff rate will be unprecedented for Apple products. Anywho, I'm just thinking out loud. Cheers!

I did the same a couple of months ago. Had been ignoring my biggest losers for ages in the hope that they'd go back up but they clearly never will, so just sold them and put back into the SP500 which has been a great move. Losers were FSLY, SQ, MP and like half of my £SMT holding. I still have a bunch of Chinese garbage in my SIPP like NIO, XPNG, BABA and SE. Was way up on all of them until late 21, but I cba to sell them now, I do think at least the three Chinese stocks could swing back eventually, SE I'm less convinced.

Millennials, especially younger millennials, went through a sort of unprecedented wave of media technology transitions in their lifetime, across the board but maybe most notably in music. We went from Walkmans and CD players, to burning CDs and file sharing, to iPods and iTunes and MP3s, to iPhones and YouTube and streaming services. Younger me would have killed for Spotify holy shit

Full disclosure, I hold a couple miners in my portfolio (RIO, SCCO, and MP). Mining stocks vary from fairly stable but consistent dividend payers to volatile, higher risk assets. The massive, multinationals of Rio Tinto, BHP, Vale and a few others pay 4-10% dividends. Their stock prices don’t fluctuate a ton but they provide income comparable to some bonds. They’re also fairly diversified usually mining some combination of copper, iron, nickel, coal and other materials. The next type is the more riskier plays. These are typically single metal miners such as SCCO or smaller miners like MP. While all mining companies’ success are correlated to the value of what exactly they’re mining, these are more susceptible because they aren’t very diversified. I’m not sure of your risk tolerance but it’s something to keep in mind. Also worth mentioning that a lot of metals have fallen in price so a lot of mining companies are seeing lower revenues and that has affected their stock prices, especially in the single metal and smaller miners. Mining is a cyclical industry that experiences booms and busts and is very closely related to the state of the global economy. TLDR: do your homework about the miners you’re looking at and think about what role you want them to play in your portfolio

MP has a deal in place with GM for refined rare earth, MP stock is down 58% YOY. Even BEPC which is mostly invested in hydro, very stable cash flow, is down 27% YOY. NEE likewise down 38%. Investors rushed in to renewables, then soured as it became clear the pace of transition would be slower than optimists had hoped. Like you said, it's still inevitable, but current sentiment is against renewable as an investment.

Umm... IDK, AAPL went from near bankruptcy to the Most Valuable Company in the World by disrupting entire industries. So, tinkering around the edges is not going to generate any kind of spectacular growth. In all likely hood AAPL is well past its dynamic growth stage, trees do not grow to the sky... **How did Steve Jobs turn Apple around?** The company was founded in 1976 by two young computer programmers, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. Its second product, the Apple II, was the first personal computer to achieve mass-market success. The Macintosh, released in 1984, introduced the modern graphical user interface to the mainstream. Apple began to struggle after its board fired Steve Jobs from the company in 1985. When Jobs returned to Apple in 1997, it was close to bankruptcy. Then Jobs led a spectacular recovery, introducing the iPod in 2001. When Steve Jobs took the reins at Apple in 1997, the company was in tough shape. It had a bewildering array of products, no clear strategy, and was losing tens of millions of dollars every quarter. In 2001, Apple released the iPod music player. Customers loved its elegant click-wheel interface. More importantly, the iPod worked seamlessly with iTunes, Apple's jukebox software for the Mac, making it easy to get music from CDs (and, later, from the iTunes music store) onto their iPods. By the end of the decade, Apple had sold more than 200 million iPods. **The iPod had a profound impact on the music industry** Here are some key iPod points: Digital Revolution: The iPod, coupled with iTunes, transformed the music industry by promoting legal digital music downloads1. This had a ripple effect on the entire music industry. Portability and Personalization: The iPod made music portable and personal, leading to the decline of CD players and the Sony Walkman. Reshaping the Music Industry: In 2001, the music industry was riven by piracy and had no idea how to solve it. The iPod, launched by Steve Jobs, created a digital music market and made Apple into a titan. **Sales: In 2007, 48% of Apple’s $7.1 billion record quarterly revenue came from the iPod.** User Experience: The real advantage of the iPod was its integration with iTunes. Unlike other MP3 players, which required users to drag music files into folders, iTunes allowed you to sync your music automatically to an iPod. So, the iPod not only changed how we listen to music but also reshaped the music industry in a more fundamental way. **Apple Inc. product sales breakdown 202**3 Apple Inc.'s product sales breakdown in 2023 shows a significant shift in the company’s revenue sources. Here are some key points: **iPhone:** The iPhone has been the highest grossing product for Apple Inc. In the third quarter of fiscal year 2023, **iPhone sales accounted for 48.5 percent of the company’s overall revenue.** This was the largest share of all Apple products. Services: Over the years, services have made a growing contribution to Apple’s net sales. In 2023, Apple Services was the second largest division, responsible for 22% of revenue. iPad and Mac: In 2022, 232 million iPhones, 61 million iPads and 26 million Mac and MacBook units were sold. **Wearables,** Home and Accessories: This category has also contributed to Apple’s revenue. However, Apple’s home and wearables division declined by 3.6% in 2023.
