Leveraged ETFs decay. They are for trades not investments. One of the better 2x leveraged ETFs, SSO has 10 year returns of 17.7% a year on average. Regular VOO is 11.8%. Why is SSO 17.7% and not 23.6%? Decay. Wanna see real ugly decay? Check out ERX and ERY.

r/stocksSee Comment

Yeah, I get it. I ran 5000 shares of ERX from 19 to about 60 last year and then ran ERY for a little bit also. I held about 7 months and was happy with the results

Actively trade the leveraged ETF's in industries you know about. I stay primarily in energy and banks. I use ERX and GUSH for energy bull, ERY and DRIP for energy bear. Then FAS for bank bull and FAZ for bank bear. Last Thursday I sold my ERX and GUSH and bought ERY and FAZ for the next few days. FAZ is a longer term trade (hold for a month) but I trade energy almost weekly

Probably suicide with VIX high but I think XLE is topping Jumping in some puts and ERY

Look at ERX and GUSH. They are leveraged ETF’s which produce bigger daily price swings. For those that don’t want to invest long term in energy, trading these ETF’s is a way to participate in short term rallies. Their inverse ETF counterparts are ERY and DRIP so you profit on downtrends. I basically make my living off of these 4 ETF’s.

Tomorrow ERY and DRIP will be on death watch ☠️☠️

I like them for straight shares. ..and not long term. On a small account, it is like buying one option for a planned one or 2 day is common. leveraged means wild ride potential.. you can bail on straight shares. I have used ERY for odd numbers of days, TMF, SPXS and TQQQ etc. my biggest loss is an option that tanked... that was september...crazy times right now too.

r/stocksSee Comment

it is simply more exciting for the day trader. I use it on my small account as well. I got in at ERY in today's low... I am now up 8.2% as of typing here got to keep an eye on it.. but either way, it makes it look like my portfolio is only down 0.7% on the current dive bomb. all my low triggers kicked in and yet DNB is being a bulldozer. my only purchase aside from ERY right now. terrible day..again.

I entered a small position this morning, but will wait for SPY 385ish before ramping up. I expect some kang action next week. Up 20% in seven trading sessions = Short covering and Retail FOMO is just starting to take hold, watch for a break of the trendline to trap new bulls and then they spring it back down (think IWM back in Nov 2021) ERY for bearish ETF (2x bear XLE) XOM targets - 92.5 and 85 NOV 18s CVX targets - 153 and 145 NOV 18s OXY not sure yet, but its looking like a HaS pattern possibly

I swing trade ERY, and I buy and write calls on ERY (-2x XLE). I buy at about .4 delta OTM when < 45 DTE. They usually land ATM/ITM within one day based on my timing. Of course the IV is higher than that of XLE. When the RSI on the underlying is around 35 and IV < HV, I buy at around .35 delta OTM, > 90 DTE. I typically hold two days to two weeks. The above has generated 25 - 125% return for me without fail.

SPXS, SQQQ, & LABD tend to have a few strikes with decent liquidity. My calls on these were up 40% to 110% today. Tread carefully. My favorite is ERY because XLE macrotrends are pretty straightforward with sentiment-based sector rotation.

r/optionsSee Comment

I mostly write covered calls on leveraged ETFs like SOXL, LABD, TQQQ, and WEBS. I write the calls when the underlying has had a good run in the oversold zone. I'm fine with them being called away, but I sometimes buy-to-close at about 50% when I expect the underlying to swing back. I'm currently doing this with ERY. I write 1 contract for $1,000, buy it back for $500, and write another for $1,000 in a week or so. I choose ETFs with high IV and consider IV for strike selection and entry/exit timing.

Yes, lots of variables to consider... So hypothetically speaking, if the Energy Sector moves up another level due to more supply constraints, but the constraints seem to potentially be temporary or it is likely that the global trade alliances will start to ease relations and figure out their differences at some point soon. And by temporary I mean like 6-12 months. How would you feel about starting a 2 month DCA into something like ERY? And don't worry about the long-term leveraged ETF discussion... I just held ERX for 1.5 years from $12>$50 and there was little to zero "decay" or other issues you read about online when holding leveraged ETFs long-term. It was great! Got LTCGs too

Mentions:#ERY#ERX

Apparently you can't short a leveraged bull ETF at certain brokers like mine as it's considered a non-marginable security... But I found ERY which is the inverse equivalent! 2x inverse Energy Select Sector. I have started DCAing into it. Targeting from $5-$10 within 6 months.

SPY hovering around 444. Shows that nothing changes sentiment like price action! ... except that the fed is a joke. Last week was the week to trade. This is the week to sit back and watch my indicators and sentiment. *What I'm watching*: 1. The covid BA.2 variant and any potential news of a spike in cases due to this. MRNA has had quite a run, up 30% in one month, needs to contract a little before another run. 2. ERY bear leveraged ETF in non taxable ROTH, short XLE in April. Pure summer spec play if XOM and WTI keep going up. Gas and heat utilization in Europe should decline as it gets warmer. Watching OPEC meeting for updated guidance although I don't expect them to change anything given high prices. Who would? 3. Boeing bear spread if enough call buyers spike the price post crash news. This company is on a downward spiral and have missed their last two earnings in revenue and EPS. Not good.

Energy normally follows the financials, but in 2022 it has been somewhat of an inverse relationship to the SPY and QQQ. I am purely trading on techincals, so on my ERY play i am looking at the following on XLE * It is currently trading outside of the MONTHLY BBand and WEEKLY BBand, and while the weekly should correctly itself next week, the monthly target band is still at 74 which got a retest Wed. * Bearish divergences are playing out on the 65m and 15m charts in relation to the RSI. Of course its reading oversold but i mainly use RSI for spotting these divergences. * Next week's options Open Interest for XLE has a boatload of calls ITM @ 75 and there is almost 70K OI puts @ 72 which should be the floor. MMs would want to shake out some of these calls so 73-74 is my target for ERY play. (which would be around 6 a share) * MOS and CVX are also showing these same situations.

Would you say oil & gas is inversely related to SPY & QQQ? Or is your ERY play purely based on technicals?

I have puts on LADR, VNQ, XLF and calls on inverse etfs DRV, ERY, and PSQ Way out of the money options are super cheap so I don't mind being wrong month after month, but they're super cheap because generally freefalls are unlikely to happen. Well, these are unlikely times and the payoffs are lucrative if/when the market drops

I love ERX and ERY. They used to be 3x leveraged so they were even better. They are NOT long term investments. They are guaranteed to lose money in the long run due to how they work: they trade short term futures on oil. They are meant to emulate the day-to-day price swings of oil. It can be a great way to make a bet on an imminent movement in the oil market. "Daily" is in the name =) For longer-term investment, check out OIL and other Fidelity/Vanguard energy funds.

Earlier in this thread, I commented that I was debating going bear oil as a YOLO, for a number of reasons, and that with my luck, the moment I do, a war will happen or covid will be cured or something. >I am debating going full bear on oil/energy stocks for a few days. Paris lockdown, Germany lockdown, vaccine scandals, and the dollar going up\*(why this is happening after we just deficit spent 1.9 trillion and are talking about another 2-3 on the way is beyond me but I won't pretend I understand the ridiculousness of our fake economy anymore)\* are the factors that are guiding my thesis. An $ERY YOLO. If XLE retests the early February region, this would not be a bad short term trade. > >Of course, what will happen after I do this, is a war gets announced on the news or something. If crude goes to $100 tomorrow, thank me. Because everything I do in life is wrong, I YOLO'd in the *opposite* direction of my thesis. And what happened this morning? 1) Angela Merkel apologized for issuing an extended lockdown & rescinded it. 2) A fucking ship crashed and blocked the Suez Canal, a main pathway for transportation of fossil fuels. THIS IS THE WAY!
