I'm partial to RS (Reliance Steel) and KALU (Kaiser Aluminum)

Day traders will focus on TSLA, and airline plays. Keep an eye on XRX, NEP, SNBR, CVNA, KALU, THC, and LBRT.

Nope. Only ETFs are for aluminum futures or the whole basic materials sector. So we'll have to decide which other aluminum company to try (ACH, KALU, or CENX).

For anyone who doesn't want to play banks or Netflix, here are two ideas I have A collateral play on other aluminum companies (ACH, CENX, KALU) on Wednesday since Alcoa is the first to report Also, a collateral play on oilfield services on Thursday since Schlumberger is the first to report and the biggest pureplay company in that sector. WFRD and HAL would be the tickers. I don't have a direction in mind so I'll probably just play strangles.

I prefer aluminum and I recently bought KALU after the big drop. I'm down 3.86% so far, but I'm not worried. But it is a very risky play, it could drop a lot more. Or go back up a lot. However, long term it is safer than steel because it is a great industrial metal, and it is well-distributed in the ground, it isn't reliant on ore discovery. And KALU has low long-term volatility, a nice slope to their chart, and is still down from the pandemic. Long-term though all materials are very difficult to price, there is a lot of risk in that. Alcoa is a great company, but if you compare the 10Y charts, they're way-way-way more volatile. Right now they have great analyst ratings and the price looks good compared to the books, but when I see that much long-term volatility I don't like to buy unless it is near the low end of their range. I'd want to spend a lot of time in their books first to know what those past swings were about before buying that, and since I'm mostly a swing trader I don't like to go that deep.

Indeed. Yesterday I wasn't impressed, as they only blew off exuberance, but today they dropped enough I'd recommend it. But I bought the dip in KALU instead.
