I am glad you posted this. I am sorry for your loss, but try to think of it as an opportunity to learn. Here’s what happened. You asked code designed to create Modern Portfolio **Theory** (MPT) portfolios to create a portfolio for you. So it did and that MPT based portfolio performed exactly as I would have anticipated. Your dividend holdings underperformed and your international holdings were absolute crap. I understand you set it to aggressive. What you don’t understand is Wealthfront, of any financial advisor, isn’t in business to make you money, they are in business to make themselves money. A financial advisor doesn’t make money if you lose money. So their aggressive setting isn’t really aggressive, it’s slightly less conservative. It is designed to make you more money than their conservative settings, but it’s primary design is to insure you don’t lose money. The fastest way for a financial advisor to lose a client is for that client’s portfolio to experience a loss. They know people don’t usually analyze their performance objectively, so as long as the portfolio is growing they win. You have learned how the industry works.
