I’m not very knowledgeable on the hertz situation, but I think that was extraordinary timing with covid and car prices. Anything is possible tho, maybe everyone decides they need coffee makers later in 2023 and don’t like Amazon. And yes , wouldnt necessarily be instant. But after the REV craziness I think the exchanges are quicker to send a company that files for bankruptcy OTC (bankrupt companies go OTC no matter what at some point after BK). Maybe you get a month or two. I’m not a bk expert. But in the case of PRTY last week, that went OTC 2 days after filing. That’s why I mention it’s playing with fire. It went from around .60 to .10 after getting delisted. If they file chapter 7 shares literally become worthless. Chapter 11 they might still be worth something. It’s beyond me the deciding factors but it’s also possible they just issue a completely new set of shares, which also makes existing shares worthless. Equities have little value in bankruptcy, debtors are paid first. And yeah, you’ll be able to trade shares. Maybe a halt for delisting at some point , then it’s just up to your broker how you can trade the otc shares, (a Q is added to the ticker for BK), BBBYQ. Possible your broker will make it a sell only situation, prob another reason those shares plummet otc.

newbie question: why is (was) everybody trying to shortsqueeze BBBY, but nobody is talking about PRTY? they also announced bankruptcy and i guess a lot of people are shorting it?
By long, I meant being bullish, as in buying shares or call contracts. If you want to swing trade, you still have to consider the side of the trade that makes sense based on macro and fundamental consideration of the underlying. I actually had looked at PRTY for a trade but there was no way that I would have had a bullish position on the stock. Anyway - you may want to consider doing a little paper-trading if you want to continue to short-term trade meme stocks. Also - you may want to look at how you handle your position sizing and hedges. That's a pretty big haircut on a single trade.
Why the heck would you go long on PRTY as a swing trade? There was no reason to be on the long side of PRTY as a trade.

PRTY got delisted off the market you shouldn’t even be able to buy it. Do your research before you just blindly go into a stock.
PRTY going bankrupt benefits shorts. Once delisted they can profit without having to pay taxes. This is under the assumption that PRTY doesn’t make it through the bankruptcy process. HTZ and Sears managed to make it through without being completely dissolved.

Theft? That's like saying if you stopped paying your mortgage it's theft that the bank takes it. It's not. Anyone that invested in PRTY is someone that bought a piece of a company that can't pay back its mortgage so they are letting the (bank) lenders take the house (ownership of the company). You shouldn't be investing, if you don't understand why lenders get to possess a company when they stopped being paid back.

Oh, I guess it was good to be patient on PRTY. I'm ok with it all going to 0, it was free and it's not going to turn into anything meaningful in my lifetime if I go with index funds etc (like it wont even cover a nice restaurant meal or new shoes). Just want to have some fun and see what happens!
$PRTY was another theft. Crippling short positions on a company that stays slammed.
PRTY declared bankruptcy yesterday and all the shareholders are going to get wiped per the bankruptcy agreement, as in they end up with nothing. The ticker is currently halted and can't be traded. If you would have invested in PRTY when everyone on Reddit was pumping it you would have just lost 100% of your money. Food for thought before you go down this path of asking people online for random stocks to invest in.

Hlbz DGBI APPH btcs RAD I don't know if there squeezes but they've been moving also IDEX went from 15 cents to 20 cents in past week on small volume. I'm not sure if PRTY is still on is had it's run with pull back then ran again. There's so many plays right now not sure if they're squeezing or just because it's beginning of new year.
Found out why ARVL is up again today - I missed the partay The meme frenzy continued for stocks including Party City Holdco (PRTY), Caravana Co (CVNA), Arrival (ARVL), and Bed Bath and Beyond (BBBY) on Thursday as except for Arrival, all the stocks shot up by nearly 50%. ARVL, on the other hand, gained almost 100% on Thursday. The share rally for Bed Bath and Beyond came even as there has been a buzz that bankruptcy looms for the merchandise retailer while its Q3 earnings have been a disappointment. In a bid to save costs, the retailer also indicated that it could lay off employees. BBBY has been a meme crowd favorite and the stock saw huge stock volatility through last year as it dropped more than 60%. The meme stock rally started back in 2021, when a group of retail traders on Reddit, WallStreetBets started to bid up heavily shorted stocks resulting in massive short squeezes resulting in pain for short sellers.
