Buffer funds under perform there index over the long term and have high fees which also drags down long term performance. In terms of QB it kind of fails the “do I understand how this financial product works” test. I kind of get the general idea but it seems to be getting into complex derivatives territory which is always dangerous. These also seen to be doing to opposing actions. For example for QFLR which is a small cap buffer fund. Typically you get into small cap because you want to expose your portfolio to the priced risk of small cap stocks but then you then undercut that risk by making it a buffer fund and pay a higher fee. You’d likely be better off getting a more appropriately risky fund with lower fees and no derivatives. I view QB as worse since the nasdaq 100 is more volatile index but does not inherently contrain any priced risks. Like anything it can work out in the short term but in the long term the inherent mechanics give a high probability of under performing.
