Check out the Barrons Partners Fund. BPTIX
One of my accounts is for long-term investments. It's broken into three categories: 30% stocks, 30% mutual funds, and 40% ETFs/Closed End Funds. Of my ETFs and mutual funds, VOO is the second best performer. The only fund beating it is Baron Partners Institutional (BPTIX), which has seen about 5x the growth of VOO (probably mostly due to its significant Tesla holdings). Compared to individual stocks, 24 out of 31 holdings underperformed VOO. Four of those that overperformed only beat VOO by a slight bit and three beat by 2x or more. It's worth noting that my holdings are mostly well-established large cap companies with a few growth stocks. This is all wholly anecdotal and your experiences may differ. But for me, it seems abundantly clear that VOO is a good choice. Sorry, no anti-index opinion from me.
