All of the 5 Japanese trading houses he invests in have ADRs. I have Itochu. The symbol is ITOCY.

Just fyi, Buffet actually bought Mitsubishi Corporation, the trading house, not Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group the bank. You can check the Japanese tickers for each: 8058 in Tokyo vs 8306. You can’t buy it on US exchanges but three of the others have ADRs: Itochu (ITOCY), Sumitomo ($SSUMY) and Mitsui ($MITSY).

If you are looking for stocks that invest in publicly listed equities, Markel (MKL), Loews (L), and the Daily Journal (DJCO) all do this. I don't think any are a better buy than Berkshire. Private Equity like Brookfield (BN), TPG (TPG), Carlyle Group (CG), KKR (KKR), and Blackstone (BX) also invest - but not in the same style as Warren Buffet, who is [famously not a fan](https://finance.yahoo.com/news/warren-buffett-private-equity-not-as-good-as-it-looks-161402193.html). You could look at companies like Itochu (ITOCY), Sumitomo (SSUMY) and Mitsui (MITSY). These are the Japanese trading houses that Berkshire bought into and [share similarities with Berkshire.](https://www.cnbc.com/2023/05/05/why-warren-buffett-is-keen-on-japans-versions-of-berkshire-hathaway.html). These only have OTC listings in the US, however, and you'd be introducing currency risk unlike Berkshire. All that said, I'd just stick with Berkshire.

Sure, the OTC stock still represents the underlying business. Nonetheless, liquidity is usually an issue for certain OTC stocks. For example Itochu Corp as OP highlighted, trades several million shares on the Tokyo Stock Exchange vs the OTC shares ITOCY which trades tens of thousands per day and the other Itochu OTC shares ITOCF trades a couple thousand per day.

GD Evergrande, yeah I didn’t even want to Google that train wreck, I held a few Chinese stocks before the last presidential administration wrecked that, I think one was Guangshin Railway, yeah I hear ya though. I’m still watching them but I think the pacific countries in the periphery of China will be more stable - I think of Indonesia Thailand, South Korea, even Chile hahaha. I’m still looking at ITOCHU as a value investment in Japan (ticker is ITOCY maybe), anyways yeah maybe you’re thinking right since the dollar is peaked right now to buy into suppressed foreign raw material and energy stocks

Itochu is my favorite of the bunch. I've owned them since 2021. I use ITOCY. For people concerned about Japan, with it's declining population and government debt, etc, keep in mind these companies do business outside of Japan.
