It seems their point is that proper RNG was out of scope of library concerns, and the provided seed command was only for convenience to test examples. > With the exception of cert-new, any BX command that requires a random number obtains that value as an argument. This places the responsibility of ensuring random number strength on end-users and also helps them understand the potential for problems. Regardless if you think this absolves libbitcoin or not, it highlights the fundamental fact that people don't read manuals and don't care. Some talk about public smart contracts, how one can see its code before interacting with it etc etc, but this is demonstrably just talk and not a practical reality for typical user

> advice clearly specified in the bx documentation That is misleading. In fact, Particularly, here is the **entire** ['warning' that was in the BX documentation at the time of the announcement](https://archive.is/A7Jn6) > WARNING: Pseudorandom seeding can introduce cryptographic weakness into your keys. This command is provided as a convenience. The "and not recommended for creating secure private keys" is not part of their documentation, and is text on a third party website. It might be interesting to figure out how that site got a stronger warning than the documentation. The warning, in either form (docs or third party) is being read here with the benefit of hindsight now knowing that the function is a trap. The 'warning' can also be read as saying "This is only cryptographically secure, not a true Scotsman\^wrandom" -- a kind of chicken little warning people sometimes give that doesn't have any real significance. It's note worthy that the associated documentation doesn't say anything about what you should do instead. It doesn't say "hey, you should use dice instead of using this command, here is how"-- for example. The form that was actually in the documentation (without the admonishment to not use it) sounds like it's saying "It's easy to do this wrong, so for your convenience we gave you a command to do it safely". It's worth taking note that nowhere does any of that documentation suggest what to do instead. Particularly because simple commands like "xxd -p -l 32 /dev/random" or "openssl rand -hex 32" would have worked fine in its place and been perfectly convenient. In reality, the only person the vulnerable behavior was convenient for was the attacker(s). Moreover, the instruction to use the command were in [many places](https://archive.is/fhm5J#selection-12915.2-12915.10) that had [no warning](https://archive.is/HDe8h). They were added to those places (including [mastering bitcoin](https://github.com/bitcoinbook/bitcoinbook/commit/76c5ba8000d6de20b4adaf802329b501a5d5d1db)!) by the author of libbitcoin. The libbitcoin software also changed from using the OS RNG (which is usually hardware backed) to the insecure behavior [at the end of 2016](https://github.com/libbitcoin/libbitcoin-system/pull/559) after instructions to use it were widespread. > I guess it's so important, it has to be posted here three times in 10 hours I believe is referring to the warning in the documentation being buried.

First watch this 30 second clip of a congressman saying explicitly that US dollars are **made from thin air**: [https://www.youtube.com/shorts/z5lhpgv\_hNI](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/z5lhpgv_hNI) Then watch this clip, in which a federal reserve representative says there is a infinite amount of cash [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BX0AkD4jp64](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BX0AkD4jp64) Now simply consider your predicament. There are two phenomena. One is bitcoin, one is cash. For all we know both are made from thin air. What we know for sure is cash is made from thin air, as the government who creates the cash has stated this (as depicted in the video linked above). Now consider the second part of your predicament. We have bitcoin and we have cash. For all we know both are infinite right? Wrong. Bitcoin is limited to 21 million. Well isnt cash limited too? No, as stated in the video, there is an infinite amount of cash, and this statement is made by the representative of the federal reserve, which is the institution that creates united states dollars. So now you need to look at this objectively: we have 2 similar things. One is dollars, the other is bitcoins. Both might be made from thin air, but the dollars definitely are as the government which creates them has stated that they are made from thin air, in this video which is posted above. The next factor is that the dollars increase in supply infinitely, as stated by the federal reserve in the video above, conversely bitcoin is limited to 21 million tokens. So the question isnt why should you hold bitcoin, but rather why should you hold dollars? They appear to be similar, but with bitcoin being the clear winner. It should stand to reason then that any amount of resources you hold in cash would be better held in bitcoin. This is not a statement regarding the amount of bitcoin you should hold, but rather an acknowledgement that most people do hold some amount of cash, and that they should insteas but putting most of those resources in to bitcoin, based on these objective facts which are clearly outlined in ths videos above and outlined by the government which creates and operates the systems in question

I would argue the 'normal'. Normal or natural is a world without paper for value. We used gold for thousands of years because it was a naturally limited tool we could use as medium of exchange. So lets say we have a medium of exchange that is limited and 1% of it's circulating supply is spent on apples every year. If a new good gets introduced into this economy, let's say it's plums it will compete with the 1% of the monetary good that is usually spent on apples. This will lower the price of apples. And since the world is made of things that are not infinitely available, I consider this to be the normal state. Fiat is [infinite](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BX0AkD4jp64) and therefore abnormal.

Take it from an IT guy. Raspberry Pi 4 is garbage. They don't have a real BIOS. I've had two of them fail in less than a year because of issues with the 5V power supply to the USB 3.0 ports. Never had that issue with Pi 3. 15.1W on the official power supply for Pi4 isn't enough power IMO. I bet it was the SSD and USB adapter that kept frying it. I went with a normal mini PC that uses 24w of power. No more issues since then. Much cheaper than a Pi 4 kit. Beelink mini PC - quad core Celeron, 8GB ram, 128GB m.2 ssd. [https://www.amazon.com/Beelink-Processor-Desktop-Computers-Ethernet/dp/B09ZLBDVZD/ref=sr\_1\_5?crid=2MB3HDX37B69D&keywords=beelink%2Bmini%2Bpc%2B128gb&qid=1654266494&sprefix=beelink%2Bmini%2Bpc%2B128gb%2Caps%2C69&sr=8-5&th=1](https://www.amazon.com/Beelink-Processor-Desktop-Computers-Ethernet/dp/B09ZLBDVZD/ref=sr_1_5?crid=2MB3HDX37B69D&keywords=beelink%2Bmini%2Bpc%2B128gb&qid=1654266494&sprefix=beelink%2Bmini%2Bpc%2B128gb%2Caps%2C69&sr=8-5&th=1) Crucial 1TB sata ssd [https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-BX500-NAND-2-5-Inch-Internal/dp/B07YD579WM/ref=sr\_1\_8?crid=1L55LSMVY607P&keywords=1tb+ssd&qid=1654266642&sprefix=1tb+ssd%2Caps%2C84&sr=8-8](https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-BX500-NAND-2-5-Inch-Internal/dp/B07YD579WM/ref=sr_1_8?crid=1L55LSMVY607P&keywords=1tb+ssd&qid=1654266642&sprefix=1tb+ssd%2Caps%2C84&sr=8-8) That's it. I installed Xubuntu (it's faster and uses less resources than normal Ubuntu). Took out the 128GB m.2 ssd, installed the the 1TB sata ssd (you could go m.2 as well, I already had the ssd). Once Xubuntu is installed, use SNAP to install Bitcoin Core. [https://www.cyberithub.com/how-to-install-and-setup-bitcoin-core-on-ubuntu-20-04-lts/](https://www.cyberithub.com/how-to-install-and-setup-bitcoin-core-on-ubuntu-20-04-lts/) Takes a few days to sync up the blockchain. But that's it. Very simple, low power system that is more powerful, more reliable, and cheaper than those rip-off Raspberry Pi's, but no noticeable difference in power usage. The fan can be a little annoying, so place it where you can't here it.

Prefacing this by saying the casino comparison might not be the best, I just threw it out there to make gambling the apples to apples here. That being said, if we continue down my hastily made analogy, you could easily argue most blockchain companies ARE providing services, as well. Not necessarily directly to the gamblers, but to developers and/or institutions who want to utilize the underlying blockchain tech. Us gamblers are just a convenient byproduct, for better or worse depending who you ask. So you could probably argue a sort of transitive property of "Blockchain X has a use-case which is providing a platform for development, and the nature of blockchains at this point is such that you need Coin/Token Y to utilize BX, ergo Token Y has a use-case."
