I am in as well, upside way bigger than downside when considering other stocks like $NBY and $SOGP. With a larger dividend too.
But what about recent cases like $NBY and $SOGP? $SOGP rose nearly 12x at its peak for a $1 dividend and $NBY rose 2x after pricing in dividend.
It is also less than half the price. NBY dividend is more on a percentage basis.

On one hand I am glad I got out but then I think I could buy in tomorrow at low price but it's not a guarantee the dividend is worth it in the market value drop if it keeps dropping. I figured all the 2 weeks I spent on this stock, I could have made more money on other tickers. I had even watch listed CWD on Monday - my dumba$$ should have diversified and kept some funds in other stocks instead of full port in NBY.

$NBY just f*cked me by sec filing for dilution + reverse split. They couldn't just hold off one more week until after the dividend was paid off 🤬
Thoughts on NBY with $0.80 dividends if you hold 9/15-29?
True, if you assume that the stock drops so much it essentially becomes worthless after the dividend payout. If the stock was sub.80 that would technically mean a guaranteed bet if you just buy and hold the stock until dividend payout, because you would make all your investment back from the dividend alone, at that point, getting to keep the stock is just a bonus. News about the dividend were out about 13 days ago only, look at how the volume of shares traded exploded:https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/NBY/history/ Now, if the stock was roughly 0.6 before the dividend news I would expect a minimum value of 1.4 due to the dividend, but that is just my opinion on this
NBY keeps dropping even lower, you can still get the special dividend if you buy until the 15th this month, the special dividend is 0.8usd, price at close was 2.70/share yesterday. Seems odd to me that you can get such a high guaranteed amount % wise
I don’t fully understand the NBY deal - so say I buy 1,000 shares on 9/14, if I hold until 9/30 (or whatever the date is) then I get $800 in dividends no matter what?

All that's mentioned is effective date is Sept 8. So no clue. Unlike NBY where it mentions both due date to grab shares and when it will be handed out.

NBY gave me 2 heart attacks, I bought at 3.84, broke even, then bought at 3.45 and broke even, I just want it to be at a steady price and hold, but this stock is super volatile.
I think NBY has plenty of room to run up this month, maybe just not today, but the way I understood the ex dividend date is not the middle of the month, its the 30th of this month. I have a possition now, I hope others misunderstand and sell off in the middle of the month so I could buy back in for really cheap, but I don't hold much hope for that to go through

You should check out Novabay Pharmaceuticals (NBY). Was $2.80 yesterday morning and is at $4.75 this morning. I got in at around $3.20! It seems somewhat promising for now

Ok for real because I don't know and $40k is a lot of $$ for me: Found this stock NBY (novabay) bay area pharma and medical device thing. Anyway they're issuing a special dividend of $0.80 a share on 9/15/25 rec date. Opened Tuesday at $1.78 and I think $2.63 Wednesday. I cashed a stock id been holding too long and dipped my toe in and here I am with 21,000 shares. I've made GREAT $$ so far but I just think it climbs until rec date maybe up to like $3.50 - $3.75 and then likely dumps. Or is this a mirage and I need to worry?

I took a position in NBY @$1.52. Special dividend of $0.80 to all who hold between Sept 15 and Sept 29. So the way I see it, I'm not in trouble unless the stock price drops below $0.72 before then. I wouldn't be surprised if this is pushed down until just before the 15th, then shoot back up. Also wouldn't be surprised if just steadily rises till then as people pile in to secure the dividend. Buying more @1.30. Heck, I'll probably buy more at $1.70 too.
