$PROSY ADR shares worth it?

Mentions

Ticker. PROSY It's about $11 not a penny stocks but its at about a 40% discount to NAV. They're like a lil Amsterdam Berkshire Hathaway who happens to own 23% of tencent. Steal of the year...

If you like specifically Tencent. I recently got into Chinese market indirectly through a stock called PROSY. It is a holding company which was an early investor in Tencent and now 80% of their portfolio is just Tencent. Interestingly, despite owning billions in other investments; PROSY sells at a a major discount (~40%) to even just their Tencent holdings. In my opinion; it is a smart way to get Chinese exposure through PROSY due to their discount.

The PDF that u/SirGlass provided is a great source that should explain a lot of the differences. As mentioned - liquidity doesn't have anything to do with the set ratio of the ADS to foreign share. Liquidity is more about how much there is a market for the ADR. These are unlisted OTC securities so generally speaking liquidity will be lower than if they were listed on an exchange. One small caveat that the authors of the artcle didn't mention. With ADRs - there is a concept of whether the ADR is sponsored and unsponsored. A sponsored ADR means that the company has decided that it wants its shares to be listed in the US and they are working with the depository bank to offer the receipts of the shares in the US. With an unsponsored ADR - a depository bank is simply buying shares of the company on whatever non-US exchange a company's stock trades and offering receipts. Generally speaking - sponsored ADRs will have better stability as an investment product than an unsponsored ADR. $PROSY is a sponsored ADR.

Thank you for the reply! It was helpful, I’ve been scratching my head on this one for a while as the PROSY shares are cheaper than PROSF. And there’s the complexity between Nasper vs Tencent

Both are OTC pink stocks. PROSF is the foreign ordinary. PROSY is a sponsored ADR. The ADR will usually be more liquid. Make sure you understand the fees associated with your broker if you decide on the F shares. Brief explanation on what F shares are in the wiki FAQ here - [https://www.reddit.com/r/investing/wiki/faq/#wiki\_what\_are\_otc\_f\_shares.3F](https://www.reddit.com/r/investing/wiki/faq/#wiki_what_are_otc_f_shares.3F)

Then you should have a massive leg up on most investors. Good for you. Fundamentals are nothing in the short term and everything in the long term. Personally I don't like the risk reward of Tesla at this valuation. If you like high risk high reward plays, check SSSS and PROSY. Same upside as Tesla but at 10% of the valuation.

Similar boat here. Been buying PROSY (Tencent proxy) over the last few days. Sounds good now that it's up over 20%... until the fact that I sold all of my BABA (+20%) and JD (+30%) beforehand to trickle into PROSY. Thought I had a lot more time.

r/stocksSee Comment

Sold out of BABA and shifted it all to PROSY. Most of its value derives from Tencent and is something like 60% below its NAV now because of overselling due to it holding Russian companies which only makes up 2% of its portfolio. Besides, I'd rather own a company that could have some clout owning real Tencent shares instead of me owning ADRs. And as a software engineer, I get a kick out of owning a piece of StackOverflow and Udemy.

Is PROSY a buy?

I wonder why India isn't discussed more as EM play. Probably not as many companies listed here or OTC even to buy. I'm still not sure why people are runinng headlong into BABA when the biggest overhang -- regulatory risk -- hasn't been removed and never will be, probably But in terms of population and economic growth, digitization and e-commerce and fintech trends, generally stable and corporate-friendly governance, India should be way up there on people's lists Certainly the risk of delisting isn't a concern for one thing I have PROSY as play on India -- it's financed and owns stakes in lots of fintech and other companies in India. Also owns a huge chunk of TCEHY GLIN is another way to play it A really good article on investing in India: https://www.barrons.com/articles/emerging-market-stocks-india-china-51640729085

While our fed is tightening, China's is going full on balls to the wall. Could be time to go in on PROSY (not a Chinese stock, but they have a lot of holdings). Right back at pre-pandemic highs too.

I agree, but I’m 33% Intel and 33% BaBa. My other 33% is PROSY because Pabrai bought it.

I am thinking about using more leverage and opening a margin portfolio account at IBKR for the low margin interest. If anyone would like to give me some sugestions on using more leverage and some hedging risk management? My portfolio and thesis below. In 4 months I will have some rentals were I can generate $2k a month to cover margin/invest. I hold another $90k in crypto. I am very bullish long term on China because of the cashflows, growth and I don't believe the FUD antichinese media. Below is my current portfolio at around 55% margin right now. As soon as BABA hits $130-135 I am up a lot. I sell 4 puts on BABA every 2 weeks on red days around $2-5 below price. I am bullish on STLA because when EVs come in 2 years I beleive people will want "choice" of cars and they own 14 brands, many with great success in Europe and unkown in the US, better profit margin than others in industry at 11%. I beleive the brand Jeep is a hidden asset worth billions of $ like Coca Cola, the whole world knows it and in 2 years with Ev Jeeps verus a Rivian I beleive they will sell a lot with a great moat, the same for Masserati, AlfaRomeo, Ram and Dodge. Any suggestions/comments appreciated. Thank you. Currently: \- 1350 shares BABA \- 100 TECHY \- 100 PROSY \- 600 NPSNY \- 200 PDD \- 1000 STLA \- 100 CHPT \- $15,000 BABA calls Jan 2023 at $170-180 \- $4,000 STLA calls JAN 2023 and 2024 at $22.50

They're very different stocks and companies I like PROSY because of Tencent exposure and all of the investments they're making. Dirt cheap. Limited downside (see where it fell to during covid crash)
