My Schwab checking account has SWLRX and SWVXX in a 1:1 ratio at the moment. My HSA has 1 year of deductible in bonds and I invest the remainder in a target date fund.
I do 50% SWVXX (money market) and 50% SWLRX. For emergencies I liquidate the SWVXX portion and rebuild after.
I’m with Schwab and I put half my money in SWVXX and the other half in SWLRX. Personally if I needed exactly $10k in 10 years with no risk, I would just buy the highest interest CD possible over that time frame and leave it alone.
There are funds and ETFs designed for this. The Schwab Monthly Payout for example or other fund families. The Schwab ticker is SWLRX
