You're really going very far out of your way in at attempt to make Richard Heart and HEX seem like a viable alternative to fiat currency backed by governments; both generated out of thin air but that does not make them equals. Don't smoke and mirrors away the point that a CD invests your money in profitable financial instruments. It does not matter if those are treasury bills, equities, or something else. HEX does not do this. A HEX CD literally burns your HEX. It destroys HEX and gives you a time-gated IOU that allows you to mint more HEX at a future date and punishes you if you miss that date. Messing up stakes is literally the only way HEX creates 'profit' without minting more of itself. The punishments for emergency ending stakes can be up to 100% of the entire stake (with 50% of that going to other stakes and the OA keeping the other 50% for itself). That's the only way you can profit from HEX - at the expense of others who fail to fulfil their staking obligations. The big difference is gaining that way doesn't actually generate any useful economic activity, unlike an actual CD.

Did dollars start off as a useful currency? The paper dollars the continental congress issued plummeted in value compared to a “dollars” worth of silver more than Hex has from its all time high. People speculated on it and got rich from doing so and eventually the dollar went on to become the global reserve currency. I’m not denying Hex isn’t a speculative asset. It has high potential for upside and downside. Also, banks don’t generally invest your CD money these days. They put it aside and use it as fractional reserves to borrow an even larger sum of money from the Federal Reserve (or their nations central bank) and invest that. Where did they get that money from? Well I suppose you could argue they invest it in the nation and collect dividends in the form of taxes, but that’s not turning a profit clearly since the debt keeps going up. Seems kind of like more money being made from nothing and diluting the other supply is a key part of this equation. So is Hex the scam for skipping the extra steps and smoke and mirrors, or is it just cutting out the middle men? Yes, the OA could rug pull at any time. But so could that wallet with a million bitcoins just sitting there that no one knows who owns it. Or Vitalik actually dumping his coins on everyone every time ETH peaks in price. But it’s been three and a half years and Hex’s founder hasn’t dumped on anyone so far. And actually makes himself know. And thanks to the transparency of the blockchains we’d know he was dumping if he decided to. Also it seems like he’s already got billions of dollars worth of crypto outside of the coins he made. I don’t need to trust his character. Financially ruining hundreds of thousands of people who know your identity and might seek retribution, in exchange for several million in liquidity pools when you’re already a billionaire seems extremely disincentivized to me.

Because the CD at the bank is denominated in a useful currency, like USD, EUR or GBP. The CD Richard offers is only denominated in HEX, a cryptocurrency that has no other use case except to be staked or sold. Funnily enough, you also explained why CDs with banks are legitimate and a HEX CD is not but you seem oblivious to it. You are correct: banks make money off of the funds I put into a CD. In fact, that is precisely how they can offer you more money at the end than you put in - they invest it. How does HEX make a profit off your CD to pay you for your stake? Oh, thats right, it doesn't. You pay for it indirectly through the minting of more HEX. I would not use Richard Heart not being in jail as proof that HEX is not a scam. Much like Hexicans tout how little the funds in the OA has moved, it's only true until it isn't. You could have made money by investing with Bernie Madoff too right up until it collapsed. The OA has done a little liquidity providing when if memory serves. But the vast majority of it is from community members. It very much seems to be a last resort sort of thing rather than primary profit driver. But the question was how was he not in jail. If Hex does what it promises to do, how is that a scam, let alone a crime? How is that different in principle than someone buying a CD at a bank and hoping their interest during that period will outpace lost buying power due to inflation? The banks are definitely making money off your locked funds. Richard seems to be cutting the better deal there, if offering a higher risk higher reward option.

When Pulsechain went live all coins on Etherium were copied including hex, so there is a phex variant now which is near at price parity between the 2 chains. So it essentially is like a stock split with double the supply. The contract of Hex is immutable code that does a specific purpose acting like a crypto CD. Yes it can me a little hard to understand but its not a scam, the person staking is minting his own rewards. Yes RH can be a little over the top sometimes with his past marketing stuff, I don't agree with everything he does but he is far from a scammer. Good comment. Its not just that checkable deposits are debt, the deposit itself is also a debt. Cash, or a federal reserve note, is simply a token of a liability the federal reserve holds. So there are multiple layers to this. Then there are timed deposits, like IRA and 401k accounts that are also debts. For each $1 in your IRA, there is a correlating asset and liability, sometimes multiple if a derivative is involved. You deposit money, the bank owes you that money, and the fed owes the bank that money. It goes deeper when the bank starts lending with your deposit. It is a house of cards. When we look at 'money' supply from an economic standpoint, we categorize it into different measurements of liquidly: circulating supply, deposits, travelers checks, CD's, other time stamped deposits. Then there is M1 and M2. None of these measures actually measure money like you would for say BTC, where we just *know* how much there is. Counting the actual dollars is not a simple thing to do. I am certain no accurate count exists of how many dollars actually exist. Fractional reserves alone fucks this all up. All that said, while I don't necessarily agree with system, it is really good for economic expansion as you've pointed out. One of the reasons we got off the gold standard. I think a major hurdle the crypto space needs to overcome in order to really start to eclipse the legacy financial system is a long term lending solution. I think volatility is a big problem in this regard, but I think once the price (of BTC) stabilizes, we'll start to see modern financial money supply systems applied in the crypto space. Another reason why I think regulatory certainty is so important right now. What is Coinbase's fractional reserve requirement? We need those answers.

My, perhaps, un--popular opinion After all the fiasco's of the past couple of years, FTX, Celsius, SEC, etc, etc, etc. I have adopted an anti-staking viewpoint. I have the vast majority of my digital assets in cold storage. In my opinion, the risk / reward for staking is overweight risk. The asset is appreciating so much, why put all of it at risk for such meager returns? I won't do it any longer. I did a test with 16 ETH on CB years ago and it is now unlocked and will soon join its siblings in cold storage. The staking rewards are highly variable, change abruptly often and you relinquish ownership of your assets in the event of dispute. Not worth it - IMO I do not view the rewards the same way I view interest on cash, dividends, CD, bonds, etc... It is not the same in the current regulatory environment. Best of luck to all

it is very easy. go in your reddit vault and get your seed phrase. unfortunately, metamask don't allow importing seedphrases when already setup, it only allows importing private master keys (that reddit does not provide). you could calculate your master key from seed phrase using some tools but since it is not safe doing it online i won't provide you any url. it would be easier to reset your metamask (of course note your actual seed/private key) and set it up again using your reddit vault seed. you can now use your ETH reddit vault address with metamask! hint: metamask allows you to see your private master key, note it, so you can import your reddit vault on other metamask setups without resetting them! then, you need to set up Arbitrum Nova (L2 where MOONS are): go to setting > networks add new network and call it Arbitdum Nova Rpc url: https://nova.arbitrum.io/rpc Chain ID: 42170 Symbol: ETH Block explorer URL: https://nova-explorer.arbitrum.io/ you added Arbitrum Nova as a network. select it add MOONS token: token contract address: 0x0057Ac2d777797d31CD3f8f13bF5e927571D6Ad0 decimal: 18

One of the best way to be secure is to have a dedicated computer for crypto, running with a "live OS". A live OS is an OS that sits on a read only device, usually a CD. At boot time it will copy itself on a ramdisk, and run from there. The concept is this happens on every boot, meaning the boot sequence may be long, but you have a brand new OS every time you boot. If it gets compromised ... well only the part in the ram gets compromised. Better do that from an USB stick instead of a CD, too. It lets you update it and install whatever you want beforehand. This works with linux, not windows. Using linux is also a good protection against windows targetting malwares like this one, and to my knowledge all crypto related tools exist on linux (browsers, wallets, mining tools...) (note : i use both, this is not a linux good windows bad post).

I have one digital copy of my seed. I encrypted it via GPG and AES256 on an air gapped device that I booted from a Live CD. Then copied it from there on a USB stick and finally to cloud storage. Without my passphrase, it's just white noise.

If you have any old media that might have contained the wallet then start a binary search of the public key on that media. If you find the public key on there you have a big chance that the private key is on there too. Boot a live linux distribution from a USB stick and then do: $ hexdump -C /dev/sdX | grep 'AB CD EF 12' where sdX is the hdd you have plugged in and "AB CD EF 12" is the hexadecimal representation of your public key. ​ If this helps you locate the key i wish for you to donate some % of that to your local children's hospital!

Next month I expect further drops as banks limit lending because of last months bank failures continue to develop. In July, the report for June at this pace will be under 4%. I was thinking the same when this banking situation started to come to light. For consumers it's called a CD ladder. And banks could just as easily do it by buying a wide range of different expiry bonds on a rotating time basis, then they could have a rotating stack of liquidity flowing back into their bank at different time periods, to do things like fill withdraws from demand deposit accounts. But for whatever reason they decided basically to clump in longer terms. At best, they were just lazy. I won't go into worst.

I’d love to become a millionaire, but I’m not holding out hope for that sort of bill market these days. Instead, I use crypto for smaller scale investment like a savings account with a better overall rate. I just keep an eye on the market being up rather than down on the given crypto I sell for cash. I’ve only taken money out once, though. A HODL mindset and FOMO are all the incentive I need to keep my money in. In this way it’s a lot like a CD, with more or less the same flexibility. The primary difference is that instead of having to wait a predetermined length of time to have access to my money, I have to wait for the market to be above my investment. Since I am diversified in crypto, this last issue is mitigated for the most part, unless I buy the wrong dip, which I have this far fortunately avoided.

The key difference is the level of control, let me provide a few alternative examples. The difference is like say you purchase a CD with your favorite music, vs paying for a subscription to a music service. That's a good philosophy, but entering it in a liveOS like Tails, with no storage present and no internet connection is pretty safe. There wouldn't be anywhere for your seed to be saved to or any way for it to be transmitted with no internet. If you don't even Trust the tails dev's and think they'd somehow save to the flashdrive you're booting from, you could wipe the flash drive right after (or just boot from a write-once CD with no leftover capacity). Tails also wipes your RAM upon shut down to prevent a cold boot attack (where an attacker freezes your RAM in liquid nitrogen right after you shut down your PC, so the bits in the volatile memory don't evaporate, allowing them to possibly retrieve them)
