Maybe if I upgrade my device and it gives me some new features or functionality that are actually noticeable. I upgraded from an iPhone 11 to a 16 Pro. I did this because the lighting charger broke and I wanted USBC. The apps I use frequently are identical in functionality. I guess the photos are better, but not life changing. The new “AI” functionality was a joke. I see nothing of interest in the iPhone 17. I don’t see myself upgrading again unless my current device breaks or the battery life drops drastically in maybe 5 years. If you give the consumer the same product every year and call it an upgrade eventually people are going to just ignore you.

As a banker, what's your take on what Greg Kidd is doing with USBC? He has bought a bank, is building a FDIC backed stablecoin (actually a deposit token) bundled with digital identity. The idea is to shore up the shortcomings of Tether/Circle along with finding a solution for de-banking of so called vice-businesses such as cannabis growers who operate in a legal framework but are denied access to banking like a standard business.

Idk but I believe that Kidd took control on company got it’s tech licenses and changed name to USBC not for shares dilution to 0,30 and being delisted from NYSE
They put a USB c on the back of the glasses where it goes by your ear, then it's USBC to USBC right to your phone to charge and control the glasses. Right now I think their goal is to make the charging wire less noticeable and more comfortable instead of focusing on battery

Word. If it's helpful, the ones I got were called Pop Solo at QuickTrip (gas station). Like $20 each. Fruity. Last a few days to a week or so depending on volume, rechargeable via USBC every day or two. The cheapo Juul or similar didn't do it for me. YMMV
They had already started switching before the EU made that decision. There were a couple devices that had already been released with USBC before the decision.
I bought nearly every iPhone till the 13. When I reluctantly upgraded to the 15 I could barely tell the difference apart from USBC. The changes are way too incremental now. They are also quite customer hostile at times.
What the fuck? I never buy phones new, always a year or two late, although I’ll probably ulgrade to 15 now that it uses USBC But I can’t believe their stores are like that. Just order it online
I’m a huge tech nerd and I’m closer to 50 years old than 40. I appreciate and enjoy new phones and PC hardware and I’ll happily spend money on those things. Not least because I can now afford those things, rather than scrimping and saving like I had to do when I was younger. I’m not about to waste money on incremental upgrades, but I did go from a 14 Pro Max to a 15 Pro Max because it was convenient and I wanted USBC.
Lmao who's taking their market share? No one I can see. Apples phones we're never about huge leaps really. People have been complaining about "no big difference between models" for about 10 years. I mean did going from 1 to 2 or 3 camera lenses change anyone's life? Getting rid of the home button? Lightning to USBC?
Unless the new phones have foldable versions I don’t see the mass appeal to upgrade. And they’ve avoided folding to not cannibalize IPad sales. So while they have the technology I don’t expect to see it implemented for 2-3 years. Additionally, many already upgraded last year for USBC. They need to offer a big change but will only have marginal differences.
Actually it's not. This is like Apple's lightning vs USBC plugs again except this time it's much more serious money as Infiniband is very profitable and required for large clusters of AI servers. Nvidia may end up losing this battle down the road.

A monopoly and a walled garden are similar concepts but not the same thing. Antitrust laws address monopolies, walled gardens are built in order to attain a monopoly. A better example of lawsuits that address Apple's walled garden rather than it's "monopoly" is the European lawsuits that forced Apple to adopt USBC ports instead of proprietary Thunderbolt connectors.
Yes and no. The walled garden aspect of Apple really has nothing to do with the Apple Store, it's more to do with deliberate choices like the Lightning connector instead of USBC, or Facetime being Apple exclusive for no legitimate reason, or the way it handles text messages from Android users vs Apple users. There are a lot of deliberate decisions made to "other" non-Apple users. Making their own cable when an open source version that has all the same capabilities exists, but Apple can't pull money from licensing, that kind of thing.

Apple literally said they were going to support lightning for 10 years in their phones. The 10 years ended and then they swapped to USBC. They swapped earlier on other things like the iPad when they could have kept using lightning to bilk more money out of the consumer
Adblock, emulators, app drawer, secondary app stores, buttons on the phone, USBC 3 ports, expandable storage, being able to move files between my phone and computer in the file explorer. These come stock on my phone and I use them almost daily. Apple doesn't allow these.
As a phone company. They need to innovate and have a second model. Otherwise, I’m sticking with my 13 for LONG time. USBC doesn’t warrant an upgrade.
USBC chargers have been used by android phones forever. Apple made a smart move by changing that point to satisfy the bitchy Mcbitchers who cry that they are elitist technologies that want to be different just to be different without listening to consumer requests. The iPhone 13 was just a massive change that will be hard to improve upon in significant ways for longer than usual. The new M chips will facilitate continued growth across their entire product line though so have no fear. I just bought a new Mac Mini with the M2 chip and couldn’t be happier. I’ve had plenty of Microsoft products throughout my life that have always gotten dated or killed by a virus so quickly that I just could t hack it anymore and stopped investing in a company making disposable technology. Apple products, while still having room for improvement in certain areas, are long lasting and easy to use for everyone. Easy to use does not necessarily equate basic. When did it become synonymous with quality to create products that were so complicated or sensitive that you need a degree in Microcomputers to keep them running?
I have a pixel 2 that is 6 years old now I guess and it's still going strong . I did replace the battery recently and the USB charging point is a little iffy but all old phones have that problem with USBC I think since the charger doesn't really click in it's just tiny friction bumps that wear down
Removing their shithole lightning cable and moving to USBC - which as I understand may have been mandated? - is actually the most useful “feature” they’ve added in years. I kind have been thinking to upgrade just for that and finally throw all lightning chargers out. The cameras and processors are also getting significantly better year over year. One year to the next isn’t always a huge jump but 3-4 years the difference is fairly significant.
You're looking at this the wrong way. That's not to say innovations are useless or that you shouldn't hope for them, but stability, even in tech, is a great thing to chase. Apple is fine with testing the waters from time to time, but they also quite often move the needle slowly. They follow android as much as android follows apple, and they didn't have a lot that they needed to change immediately. A big part of this is the fact that big changes to their lineup would mean a lot of things for their customers to get used to, not to mention developers. Their customers expect the ecosystem to work rock solid, as it is the true selling point. If it just looked good but didn't work well, apple would tank like so many other companies trying to be innovative but ultimately insignificant (see motorized cameras from a couple years ago by oppo, the nothing phone, mini phones, even oneplus is struggling to be relevant). If they adopted folding phones in the same year that they switched over to a new charging port, they would be creating a lot of costs for themselves all at once. One year it was ip68, another wireless charging, another USBC. Check out what Marques Brownlee says about them; he always has a very level take. And in case this somehow sounds like a fanboi rant, I'm entirely and fully team android, owned a single iPod 10 years or so ago and haven't looked back. I don't need the stability as much as I want the flexibility, but Apple has stability in spades.
I have the 15 because my 11 was dying. It is same phone with USBC and a nicer camera. Not impressed at all. Apple did run out of ideas.

It’s the first because the lightning cable was USB2. USBC runs on the USB3 standard, so faster transfer speeds. Apple just wanted to shake down consumers for their “special” power cable. Looks like that revenue stream dried up.
I bought even more shares the 15 redesign is gonna be huge. I'm an android fan and with USB-C 2 things gonna happen. Android ppl get a chance for a more seamless transition. And ppl with older phones just gonna upgrade. USBC is that tempting, big upgrade cycle big money.
USBC iPhones will bring a new upgrade cycle. Apple also won't even have to provide a cable anymore
I've never bought an iPhone but I think I will when the 15 is released. It finally adopts USBC and it should have pretty exceptional battery life with a 3nm chip. And frankly my last pixel has some great features but piss poor GPS and I'm just through with dealing with Google phones.
I wonder if there was luke warm reception to the latest iphone. Personally, I think that the "island" wasnt that big of a selling point. Meanwhile, taking away the SIM Card slot (in the US) and all the news about Europe banning non-USBC ports probably created some headwinds.

The battery pack has pass through charging for when you are tethered to a wall or laptop… or any other USBC power source with enough W output. So I imagine you could just hook up a larger battery to the tiny one to extend the life, and even got swap multiples of them if you using it on a really long flight or something.

Ive seen everything from removing the charging cord and making the phones pure wireless to putting both a lighting port plus USBC on the same phone. Im just surprised they haven't charged for updates yet.
You are missing the margin loans origination primarily is not in GBP. Those bonds are fire-sale because the loans were USD (cuz low US rates looked so good last decade). Econ 101 doesn't show you the MacroEcon 101. Firms in UK were forced to buy local bonds for security, but not forced to use UK banking to get the loans to margin buy those bonds. As soon as the Fed rate hiked, UK must follow the hike or risk this from happening. They didn't and it went mostly unnoticed until Truss shocked the GBP. GBP stabilized and got a little more ground back, but not enough. If they had raised this 200bps it would have maybe been enough to shock it high enough to recover pension margin rates, but no, now they must pivot to allow the pensions to move to USBC or whoever with lower rates just to hold onto what the pensions have, then put up a law to force them onto GBP banking for margin in the future. They can't really because inflation, but we are talking just pension fire sale here.
He waved a few other flags. Like, AAPL will be not expecting as many handset sales as expected. AAPL will only be cutting the LOWEST wage workers out. AAPL, doesnt really have anything to offer any more excet Airpods and lighting chargers, that we have to change next year to USBC
13 mini here and yes. I’ll upgrade to the next mini model. If it doesn’t happen I’m waiting for USBC.

Its basically the opposite parts. Lightning is the boy parts and USBC is the girl parts. The only difference is where the boy part is located.

Probably not too hard for them to do it though. They get royalties from every proper apple adapter that is sold by a third party that they wouldn’t get if they switched to USBC. Which as moronic as that is it makes sense on why they are so stubborn on it and why accessories aren’t such a big part of their profits.
