There is a lot of strategy, for the most part they can be divided into two categories: Low frequency trading and high frequency trading. The former are trades mostly done by humans; they might trade based on the news, earning reports, weather forecasts, state of the economy, and so on. Much of "traditional" investment banking does this. (Some people call this "fundamental analysis", but I don't like the term because it makes it sound like TA is a legitimate alternative.) The latter are trades by computers. They might also trade based on these factors, but using machines that are extremely close to the exchange servers. These strategies are about being faster than everyone else, the idea is to emulate what human traders are gonna do, but first. As you can see, any LFT strategy that is simple for computers to understand and analyze will be leveraged by HFT firms, which will take all the profit. So even if TA did work, then some HFT firm who's the fastest at running that algorithm would make a shitton of money from it, and everyone else would get nothing.
