Even though it's 10 years old, theres a very good chance it's still fine. These older Macs are fairly bulletproof. Find a \*very\* reputable Mac specialist. Take your time and ask around. Do some online research about the specialist. Take it in and tell them it won't start up, and the last time it did, it would die again. It could be a battery issue, which would be easy to fix. You might even begin troubleshooting it yourself if you don't trust anyone. Get some help online - "2013 MBP won't start". But whatever you do, do not reformat the hard drive! If you do get it started, copy the internal HD contents to an external hard drive right away. Software like Super Duper will clone your drive, and it's free. Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

This is what I do. I prefer an encrypted MBP.

I was on the Apple Train for about a decade. Went all in. Devices, servers, lappys the whole shebang. I finally got off and I'm not looking back. Swapped out MacOS on my older lappy for a Linux distro and moved to Android. My daily driver cost 1/2 as much but double the specs of the equivalent MBP (not only are Apple products expensive, but there is a disproportionate conversion that is more than the exchange rate + GST, even though shipping to AU is cheaper from China that it is sending them to the US) Thinking they can take a cut of a crypto gas fee?! They might as well ask banks to take a cut of online banking app transfers, or any stock apps that buy/sell stocks. It's ridiculous. It's _bad_ and they should _feel_ bad.

Can confirm this is largely correct. I was in PC repair around the time, and while Apple's machines were definitely higher quality engineering going on vs most other laptops available, due to the custom engineered boards that cram as much as they can into such a small space, liquid was the achilles heel of a Mac. I had a roommate destroy a Mac Mini of mine with a single spill, and almost without exception if a client machine came through that was a lost cause, it was liquid damage that wrote it off. They'd take a beating physically (I still have a 2012 MBP bought in 2015 with a busted up screen that works perfect, even if a bit slowly by now), but keep all fluids away from them, and if you spill hope its just water and the rice trick works or you're buying a new logic board at the cost of a new machine.
