For me, I will continue to do it until proven otherwise. I think the whole “90% of people don’t beat the market” is because a scary large percentage of people are basically gambling and going after meme stocks rather than investing in great companies. It just takes a couple great companies that shatter the market to beat it. Over the last 5 years for example, VOO has gone up roughly 100%. I have a handful of stocks that have gone up significantly more than that over the same timeframe that basically dominate my holdings - NVDA, AXON, FIX, AVGO, among others. Will that last 10 years? 30 years? Maybe not, but until I am losing to VOO I’m just going to keep picking my favorite companies, many of which are in VOO anyways

That’s another one of my what if’s. Bought when it was TASR (taser) and sold as AXON for around $80 with like 5x gain.

Added to KNSL, APO, KKR, BLDR, and AXON. All five are in midst of a pullback or off thier own 52 week highs.

As one other said the time period is cherry picked a bit: 5 year performance is 280%, 3 year performance is 60%, 10 year is 840%. But yes growth has slowed down a bit so the price was adjusted to account for 8-12% growth instead of 18-25%. Doesn’t make it a bad company to own, it is still a monopoly and monopolies tend to compound over decades. Slowish growth with a small but growing dividend, nothing fancy but if you buy now and look back in 10 years you’ll likely be happy. You just have to have the right expectations, it likely won’t repeat the last 10 years of performance but it’ll also be less risky as its dominance is more secure now. Overall it isn’t the same growth story but its monopoly is secure even with China risks. It is a decade? (Maybe more) ahead of the closest competitor due to moore’s law, the demand of the highest tech isn’t massive but they are the only ones who can fill that demand. So even with a “small” TAM they actually own the whole TAM unlike companies who say “TAM is $150B” but their revenue is like $4B, like AXON.
TASR 82 shares at 18.00 per share in 2015/2016, became AXON and is currently at 725.00 per share. About $60,000 profit.
Look into HLAL for US coverage? It doesn't seem to have much overlap with a US defense ETF (ITA), only a single shared holding: AXON ENTERPRISE INC (do you consider Tasers to be over the line?) at 0.2% of HLAL.

State and local police departments across the country don't operate in unison. All of them came to AXON's products on their own. It's doubtful they'll all just get up and walk away from body cams like that.
AXON is the definition of a moat, not only do they make the body cameras that all the police use but they sell licenses to EvidenceNow which is the software they use to store them on the cloud. They have virtually no competitors and made early investments in AI as well.
My fav 6 stocks right now (subject to change if one of them trades weakly for a while): NVDA, PLTR, AVGO, META, AXON, VST. All bought at much lower levels than today. Esp NVDA and PLTR.

Sure but growth stocks and high beta can also fall apart quickly. A real market downturn or recession and these stocks like CRWD, PLTR, AXON, CVNA, TSLA, etc will start to fall apart like 2021. PLTR is capped by government spending. Who knows when markets get rational again? Crazy bulls like Dan Ives and Cathy still in the drivers seat.
