Cann is one of the biggest names in hemp beverages. Here is a brief rundown of their history: * Launched at MedMen in 2019, while MedMen was partnered with Cronos (Altria). * Added Rosario Dawson to board in 2021. She was then the girlfriend of Corey Booker. * Partnered with Green Thumb in 2021. * These days they are expanding with Circle K along with Green Thumb's hemp drinks. GTI and Cann were partnered before GTI struck their original deal with Circle K. When that deal didn't go through, I think the GTI/Cann partnership fizzled out. [Cann just disclosed their first lobbying registration](https://lda.senate.gov/filings/public/filing/b6aea935-5272-403b-92bb-340c71349dfe/print/). At the beginning of March they registered with the lobbying firm Forbes-Tate. Companies lobbying with Forbes-Tate that have cannabis connections are: * Cann (3/1/2026) * Green Thumb (12/1/2025) * Altria (since 2009) * CPEAR (6/1/2021) CPEAR is the cannabis advocacy firm that is run by the convenience store industry, big tobacco, and big alcohol. These members include Constellation Brands, Altria, and the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS). * CPEAR's executive director is a senior VP at Forbes-Tate. * NACS was chaired by Circle K from late 2024 through 2025 But the most prominent member of CPEAR is actually a well known Democrat. The are co-chaired by former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle. * NACS registered The Daschle Group on 9/1/2024 This is interesting because Cann disclosed an "associated organization" on their lobbying record. The organization is [Tusk Strategies](https://lda.senate.gov/filings/public/filing/b6aea935-5272-403b-92bb-340c71349dfe/print/), which is run by [Bradley Tusk](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bradley_Tusk). He is an influential Democratic strategist, who has been deputy governor of Illinois but is mostly connected to New York politics. He was even communications director for Chuck Schumer, the man who now holds the top position in the Democrat party. Same as Tom Daschle used to. Bradley Tusk was an early investor in Eaze. He also teamed up with tech investor Marc Andreesen to fund Vice Ventures in 2019. One of their investments was CBD beverage company Recess, which is still around and have been [lobbying for CBD for years with the firm BGR](https://lda.senate.gov/filings/public/filing/da213c05-f337-4c54-83f2-49c07559498c/print/). BGR has lots of cannabis connections. Recess was one of the companies that went with the US Hemp Roundtable to meet with Mitch McConnell years ago.
BGR is the shitties tech site on the planet, surpassing even Forbes
Oh yeah? I thought it was because of this BGR headline: ***Killing the iPhone is reportedly Tim Cook’s top priority*** [https://bgr.com/tech/killing-the-iphone-is-tim-cooks-main-priority-report-says/](https://bgr.com/tech/killing-the-iphone-is-tim-cooks-main-priority-report-says/)
Verano registered a new federal lobbyist - [BGR Government Affairs](https://lda.senate.gov/filings/public/filing/e9d05fb7-7613-4a10-8df4-f1e7632f8c7e/print/). BGR is the go-to firm for cannabis companies associated with Brady Cobb. Liberty Health (2017), SOL Global (2018), Cresco Labs (2020), and Captor Capital (2021) all registered with BGR soon after connecting with Cobb. Verano was originally [launched by SOL Global](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2018/10/23/1625266/0/en/Verano-Holdings-Launched-to-Consolidate-National-Cannabis-Assets-with-120-Million-Financing-and-Acquisition-of-Florida-Licenses.html) in late 2018, just a few weeks after SOL Global had [named Cobb as their CEO](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2018/10/03/1600748/0/en/Scythian-Biosciences-Appoints-Brady-Cobb-as-CEO.html). >Mr. Cobb formed a strategic relationship with the BGR Group, a Washington, D.C.-based government relations firm....Working with BGR, Mr. Cobb has been a proponent of the Rohrabacher-Leahy amendment to the 2018 Congressional omnibus appropriations bill.... One of the lobbyists Verano just registered was working for SOL when they launched Verano. And the SOL guys are still associated with Sammy Dorf, the other co-founder of Verano. Multiple SOL connected companies (TYSON 2.0, Flora Growth) have had Sammy Dorf on their board. Most recently was Flora Growth adding him as chairman in late 2024. Miracle Gro is the cannabis-related company that has the longest history with BGR. They have used them for lobbying since early 2017, and still do to this day.

Hagedorn alludes to this strategy during this interview I linked elsewhere: [https://www.boyarvaluegroup.com/podcasts/james-hagedorn-scotts-miracle-gro-chief-executive-officer-and-chairman-of-the-board-on-the-tremendous-opportunity-in-the-cannabis-space-potentially-spinning-off-the-fast-growing-hawthorne-division/](https://www.boyarvaluegroup.com/podcasts/james-hagedorn-scotts-miracle-gro-chief-executive-officer-and-chairman-of-the-board-on-the-tremendous-opportunity-in-the-cannabis-space-potentially-spinning-off-the-fast-growing-hawthorne-division/) Skip to like 39:00 and he starts talking about Hawthorne and his "Apollo" project. About 30 minutes is when Hawthorne backstory from 2014 starts. He talks about current MSOs are "competition", and how if you try to borrow money right now in cannabis you are hit with devastating covenants, which is why he's waiting for SAFE. Says they are partnering with people on the Apollo side, whatever that means. Lots of interesting anecdotes in this interview. I don't know where all they've invested, but the **Hawthorne Collective** is their investment vehicle. I only really know they basically control RIV Capital, with Hagedorn's son on RIV's board. Remember RIV very recently bought Etain in New York. [https://scottsmiraclegro.gcs-web.com/news-releases/news-release-details/scottsmiracle-gro-announces-creation-new-investment-entity](https://scottsmiraclegro.gcs-web.com/news-releases/news-release-details/scottsmiracle-gro-announces-creation-new-investment-entity) "The Hawthorne Collective, which will focus on **strategic minority investments** in areas of the cannabis industry **not currently pursued by The Hawthorne Gardening Company**." Hawthorne was working with Jason Wild recently too, as JW Asset Management was a major RIV Capital shareholder, but they had a huge blowup over the RIV Etain purchase. Jason Wild basically tried to take over RIV, but ended up selling his RIV shares for a nice premium. [https://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/riv-capital-s-largest-shareholder-jw-asset-management-requisitions-special-meeting-to-address-necessary-leadership-changes-862462308.html](https://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/riv-capital-s-largest-shareholder-jw-asset-management-requisitions-special-meeting-to-address-necessary-leadership-changes-862462308.html) [https://www.newcannabisventures.com/riv-capital-buys-shares-from-jw-asset-management-at-a-big-premium/](https://www.newcannabisventures.com/riv-capital-buys-shares-from-jw-asset-management-at-a-big-premium/) RIV's other portfolio companies are interesting, as I'm sure they provide some insight into their strategy. Leaflink and Headset are known companies. NOYA who white labels products for GAGE and Cookies (JW influence I'm sure). Another white label company for canadian gummies in Dynaleo. Zeakal developing hemp seed technology. The company High developing hemp beauty products. Agripharm, a Canadian cannabis company w/ large outdoor grow. Some of these are most likely older investments, from when RIV was a Canopy Growth controlled entity. But they're still active according to RIV's website. [https://www.rivcapital.com/portfolio](https://www.rivcapital.com/portfolio) I need to look more into the transition between Canopy Growth working with RIV, to Miracle Gro and Jason Wild working with RIV. They say Canopy divested RIV so that RIV could make more moves in the US, while Canopy was left with TerrAscend shares. So instead of Canopy investing directly via RIV, the connection is now Canopy to TerrAscend to Jason Wild's JW Asset Management to RIV Capital. [https://mjbizdaily.com/cannabis-firms-canopy-growth-canopy-rivers-part-ways-as-rivers-looks-to-us/](https://mjbizdaily.com/cannabis-firms-canopy-growth-canopy-rivers-part-ways-as-rivers-looks-to-us/) In terms of MSOs, I would say their closest connection is with Cresco, because Brady Cobb's lobbying firm BGR has long worked with Miracle Gro, including using Cobb's "main guy" Pete Landrum. [https://seekingalpha.com/article/4474512-cannabis-stocks-are-a-coiled-spring-brady-cobbs-industry-update-podcast-transcript](https://seekingalpha.com/article/4474512-cannabis-stocks-are-a-coiled-spring-brady-cobbs-industry-update-podcast-transcript) "Pete Landrum, who was my main guy BGR was a long time, Jeff Sessions staffer, dear friend, so we began working on undoing that problem. And then from there, it's just been working. I identified and retained to BGR Group, because of their connections into the Republican side of DC." You probably know Cobb enough to know being associated with him means you're associated with lots of people/companies in the industry. Cobb/Hawthorne are both big with The Weldon Project too. Verano had big early investments by SOL Global when Cobb was there too, and Verano is big in Weldon Project, so I could see them being considered connected. Incidentally, SOL Global registered BGR as a lobbyist (with Pete Landrum again) right after Brady Cobb became CEO of SOL, so he is definitely still utilizing his old lobbying firm connections. Pete Landrum was a Miracle Gro lobbyist from mid-2017 to mid-2020. Dan Murphy from BGR currently lobbies for both Cresco and Miracle Gro, and had lobbied with Landrum with Miracle Gro since their registration. [https://lda.senate.gov/filings/public/filing/09994991-8f30-4534-8680-761de96e5663/print/](https://lda.senate.gov/filings/public/filing/09994991-8f30-4534-8680-761de96e5663/print/) [https://lda.senate.gov/filings/public/filing/78abc3de-c609-40aa-92f2-314f867ef218/print/](https://lda.senate.gov/filings/public/filing/78abc3de-c609-40aa-92f2-314f867ef218/print/) Now SOL Global was a joint effort with Cobb, Andy D, and Serruya. I find it very interesting that one of the most random investments of Serruya Private equity is HydroFarm, one of Hawthorne's biggest competitors. Serruya first invested in HydroFarm way back in 2017, and still has a board position via Patrick Chung. Tilray is also represented on Hydrofarm by one of Aphria/Tilray's longest serving executives, Renah Persofsky. Old school Aphria was heavily connected to Cobb and SOL Global (aka Scythian Biosciences aka the LATAM assets scam). I could see them either working to combine HydroFarm w/ Hawthorne, or perhaps Serruya is just pulling a MedMen and tanking the company. More old interesting connections. Miracle Gro formed one of the first "advocacy" groups, The New Federalism Fund, with Privateer Holdings and LivWell (who merged w/ PharmaCann) at the beginning of 2017. Look at "affiliated organizations" on the Fund's registration: [https://lda.senate.gov/filings/public/filing/f35366ef-e454-4029-b4ec-f090b216950f/print/](https://lda.senate.gov/filings/public/filing/f35366ef-e454-4029-b4ec-f090b216950f/print/) As you can tell, I could go on for a while about this kind of thing. That's probably enough for now :)
Oh interesting I don't think I had Aleafia's connection to that noted. I have One Plant as a major Serruya/Brady Cobb connection back to Aphria in the old days, and Cresco more recently. [https://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/sol-global-s-3-boys-farm-sees-substantial-growth-in-sales-and-operations-in-florida-via-its-newly-implemented-and-highly-efficient-home-delivery-model-861767253.html](https://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/sol-global-s-3-boys-farm-sees-substantial-growth-in-sales-and-operations-in-florida-via-its-newly-implemented-and-highly-efficient-home-delivery-model-861767253.html) SOL Global was a rebrand from Scythian Biosciences, which Aphria was all tangled up with. SOL Global later rebranded again to Bluma Wellness. Bluma Wellness was purchased by Cresco, less than a month after Cresco engaged with Cobb's old lobbyist BGR Government Affairs.
You think politicians are looking at which lobbyist had the most Twitter followers? And you're just admitting you haven't done the most basic investigation of lobbying activity. BHFS, Ballard Partners, BGR, Fulcrum, hell even Liaison Group. All have multiple lobbyists working for SAFE, actually working for the companies in the industry, and they don't tweet a word. Want me to give you a full list when I get home?? Most of what Don tweets is simply trying to convince us to be bullish on SAFE, and that Republicans already support it. I think it sure seems like he is doing more PR for them, than he is doing lobbying for us.
You didn’t disprove either articles (which are both verified and reliable sources, BGR even has a left-leaning bias) with again, anything but your own anecdotal evidence. Which also again, I don’t trust because you’re nothing but a sad, chronically-online redditor who also has an obvious left-leaning bias. I checked myself, it has a left-leaning bias. Does that make you feel better? My anecdotal evidence disproves your broader generalization that it doesn’t have a bias. That’s your peabrain logic, by the way. Seems like you’re projecting your own failures onto me, sad. Hope you feel better about yourself man, you could use some more self-love. Maybe you can ask your AI deity how to improve your life and overall happiness. Wish you the best of luck moving forward.
I am a bot. You submitted a picture of a banned ticker, BGR. This check will fire if you included unnecessary pictures that have bad phrases or a bad crop with news about cryptocoins, for example. Repost with the useless pictures omitted if you did that. Yell at /u/zjz if it's above 1.5 billion-ish market cap and not related to crypto/pennies/OTC/SPACs.
“A huge asteroid stronger than a nuclear bomb is headed our way this month” -Joshua Hawkins, BGR Just one bomb, or two? And, really? Is a correction that badly wanted? Holy fuck
PXLW - Pixelworks and new iPhone coming on Sept 13th. Article published by BGR says: The new display technology will deliver improved responsiveness, more fluid scrolling, and “smoother motion content.” If a new iPhone is coming in 3 weeks, certainly the specs for what is new inside could be known by insiders and by those in the manufacturing chain... Hmmm, just looking to explain the most unusual trading volume on PXLW in 15 years... PXLW in new iPhone?
I'm loading closed ends on margin for this one. BGR and PEO
Today people are taking profits on energy and commodities so you can use a stock screener to see which stocks and ETFs are doing well. I just bought some Blackrock energy trust (BGR). It's a "closed end fund" etf. The way they work is that they pay out some gains in monthly or quarterly dividends and income, as well as have gains in the underlying assets. So it's doing well in terms of beating other energy ETFs while also paying a dividend. This is important right now because any assets that pay dividends are in high demand. So a closed end fund like BGR will do at least as well as other similar ETFs but also attract investors seeking out dividends right now. As a result, BGR is outperforming XLE and other energy ETFs in terms of share price gains. So you might want to check out closed end funds for commodities.
It's important to note the 3.2B combo leak that got cracked wide open beginning of Feb. I had like 15 notifications of account are being compromised for my own personal logins. Most were old and hadn't been used in years but 3.2B combinations of PWs and logins is.. Staggering..
