No, it is not safe. There are safer exchanges but its best to get on another CEX. Binance is sketchy, my bank would have me go talk to a fraud department to just deposit money into Binance. That ended up being such a headache I just moved to another exchanged that was "so-called" safer. But in the end NO EXCHANGE is SAFE because at anytime you could lose access or just lose all your crypto. You buy and transfer than sh!t to your cold storage wallet. I think you don't understand how ledger works. It's not saved on the ledger. That can be destroyed, it's the 24 words you need to keep safe. Have a practice with a wallet and moving funds and then resetting them and restoring them. That should give you confidence in the tech. Then if you are keeping for the very long term you should back up a seed onto metal and save it VERY SAFE. Keeping some online if you intend to trade it or cash out in less than a year or two.

Sure, but that largely speaks to regulation, right? If you tokenized RE in this environment where people pretend "code is law" that is a non starter (of course "code is law" is not reality anywhere). There are plenty of benefits (potentially) to tokenizing RE. If RE was a token (and thus all prior ownership interest was visible) you could largely opt out of things like title insurance. Or, if you still had TI, because the history of title was easier to see the title insurer would charge much less to insure. Similarly, escrow wouldn't go away, but escrow could be much more automated and cheaper. Taking out debt instruments secured by the property would also be streamlined. An example might be a Mortgage on a house someone I own free and clear. Currently, if I want a mortgage I have to go make an application at a bank or mortgage broker. The bank is going to charge me a pile of origination fees, the bank is going to need to check on the title, the bank is going to need to check to see how encumbered the property currently is with debt and so on. Rarely do people shop around too much between banks/brokers. You were notified immediately when your NFT exited your wallet and made a police report (actually the hack never happened because of the robust safeguards wallets have in 2040 including a user set cooling off period before any transaction completes and you can void the transaction after the US legislature passed the SAFE WALLET ACT of 2036). The hacker was stupid enough to show up on your doorstep and was immediately arrested. After police department on chain experts (which in this year 2040 is the fastest growing major) looked at the transaction they identified that you had connected your wallet to a drainer address and the transaction was easily identified as fraudulent. Hacker goes to jail and NFT is returned. If hacker refuses then the old title is voided and a new one issued all of which is visible to future owners and lenders on your blockchain title.

I’m not disagreeing with anything you are saying and agree Wall Street isn’t completely ethical, however for the average person it works, is fair, and most importantly SAFE. And it’s a difficult argument to say crypto is more ethical than Wall Street isn’t it? With all the shilling, pumping, rug pulls, shitcoins and how much is it used by criminal organisations. The average citizen can take sound financial advice and invest in the S&P500, proven to deliver above inflation growth for decades, and whilst past performance isn’t indicative of future performance it’s fair to say that if the S&P500 tanks EVERYTHING tanks anyway, including crypto. And importantly investing in the S&P 500, through a company like AJ Bell, is safe and secure, often fully insured and often available in tax efficient wrappers. It’s a safe place to put your money and let it grow assuming you aren’t a criminal or shady. People talk about “self governance” in crypto being a good thing but for most it isn’t. For most people the best thing is AJ Bell, and the amazing customer support you get for the relative small fees you pay compared to crypto. Who really wants to lose their 90% of their wealth because they’ve lost a cold wallet key? I certainly don’t…. but I’ll call AJ bell customer service if I’ve forgotten my login. Open electrum > standard wallet> i already have a seed> *enter your seed phrase* > click the options button > check the BIP39 seed> click next> click on detect existing accounts. It should find and import your wallet. I cannot stress this enough: MAKE SURE YOUR COMPUTER IS CLEAN AND SAFE. If you are unsure, a clean OS reinstall is not at all an over kill.

A tidbit of follow up. So I reported this all to the correct channels, not expecting shit. 4 months later I got a phone call "The FBI". Logically I don't pick up - they leave believable message. I call pops, ask him 'how's his day going' etc. FBI will always contact friends / relatives prior to you, when investigating you. You are always contacted last. FBI message was like "I came by your office, you weren't there. When I looked for you at your parents house, you weren't to be seen..." So I googled, this number was the number that appeared in Google as local FBI office (but THIS IS NOT FULLY SAFE - Google can get hacked... but I was willing to take the risk, reviews whatever were years old, etc). So I call back : FBI - "Is this Bitcoin 1776?" Me - "Well I can assure you this is the phone of Bitcoin 1776, so I do not know who else it could be." FBI - "Is this Bitcoin 1776?" Me - "This is a very interested party in the Bitcoin 1776 matter, a representative, so feel free to go ahead." FBI - "It's about the hack..." (I assume they have voice identification and at this point they presumably knew it to me). After some 15 minutes or so, I agreed that I was most probably Bitcoin 1776. The FBI went on to say his 'first choice of contact' was to show up my last 3 known addresses (in plain clothes I presume) - which would have been exceedingly disconcerting and is not in the least bit 'safe' - as in me stepping out to any man in a suit, or letting a suited man in, is just... a wild, wild, wild expectation to have on citizens, but moving on.. He then said he caught the hacker (which is very surprising). It was an American he said / implied (and I was aware a lot of his VPNs were US addresses, which made me think American too). We talked some, and my losses were too minimal IMO to justify further investigation / criminal proceedings just for me (far less than $5k overall - Coinbase trading fees, essentially). But he was very pleased I think trying to make the case 'as big as possible' to get more notice from the FBI, this was the manner I took the interaction. He then proceeded to ask for my new address so that I could receive updates - I declined lol. He never asked for like 'confirming details' (social, etc.) - just name and that's all - which again made me think it was real FBI. He was very friendly - and more disappointed I didn't want to attend court / press charges more aggressively, I felt. And 40 mins later that was that. Obviously the FBI could have been contacting for a dual purpose, the hack and 'some other matter' - but I have moved outside of jurisdiction (effectively), so I felt at ease. There are rules they must follow, and even if it was for some 'low level' crime they wanted me for (I dunno) - they still can't investigate you if you live in Alaska backwoods. Just the cost of serving you papers might be like $35,000 for an agent to find you. Let alone the dozen or so follow-ups. But anyways. It was a scare, but also a nothing burger. Good luck all!

I can pretty much assure you what happened (because it happened to me, but I had no bad outcome). Keepass (what is being called a 'password manager') is 100% secure. However the password to KeePass was something like "Bitcoin" - which yes, can easily be brute forced and KeePass doesn't stop brute force. The hacker got his keepass file from his harddrive... this is extremely hard to do (in normal circumstances) - EXTREMELY hard... except Microsoft now 'auto syncs' your entire hard drive using One Drive - unless you aggressively deny it (I do). Google Drive *can* do similar. So basically I can almost assure you the 'dad' clicked the default options on windows install - which steals all your Bitcoin keys / self hosted password managers. Now Microsoft is setup (again by default) to let you get all that easily from anywhere in the world.. F'ING GREAT! All you have to do is reset your password - which can be done by text or email. He would have known if his phone was stolen, so they must have cracked his email. Again, emails are similarly setup to open anywhere in the world via text or email to some other old email. Another possibility is reused passwords - like your home depot password is your email password as well.. ALL BITCOINERS MUST SET UP --- EMAIL --- TO 2 FACTOR AUTHENTIFICATION. This will stall a hacker a least a day. In my case, they had been targeting me for months / years, with advanced 'phishing' emails (use of real name, business intent, possibly legit files to 'download' etc). I fell for none of this. Eventually they stole my phone (using a T mobile Israeli office - they steal your phone number, not the device, also called 'sim swapping' - but it's fully remote and you can't *really* stop it - any $10 hr worker anywhere in the world can defeat you). After stealing my phone - they reset all email passwords and financial accounts - using 'text to phone' to override - and then 'text to email' once email was secured - this basically breaks into everything in the world. And while doing all that - they also IMMEDIATELY - hacked my G Drive, One Drive, Drop Box, etc. and grabbed everything there (this would be where people keep their KeePass or BTC seeds). > I'm personally not huge on 'self storing' - as a similar incident where my dad was the backup - he threw the USB drive 'into the junk drawer' - and then the paper with all the info in a book.. that he gave to the library.. - IF you give parents / relatives a hard copy of BTC info - PUT IT IN A SAFE - not because it's relevant, but this prevents them from easily losing it. Also my dad had movers grab all his stuff one day, and if they grabbed USB drives he would have never noticed for months... a Safe is the only real way (don't even give them the combo if it's a 'only if you die' tool - this is particularly good for spouses / friends). Anyways - from the time they Sim Swapped me in Israel (9:30pm on Friday) - to the time they had downloaded all cloud files and cracked all related websites - was 5 MINUTES. Five minutes.. In my case, I don't use any cloud storage, immediately delete / uninstall OneDrive (as I understood the risk years ago), and my G Drives... well I got 6 of them. My main one is not with my main email, etc. The only financial account they got was Coinbase - and even though I notified coinbase as fast as humanly possible - coinbase DID allow them to sell my BTC for 'penny stocks' - as whitelisting doesn't stop that... in this case, the penny stocks did better than Bitcoin over the 3 months it took for CB to give my access back.. all the while deny I have any money at all.. the hackers submitted 'verified ID' (fake licenses / passports) at roughly a rate of every 30 minutes, over a 7 day period. > They only way to notify CB is to buy a burner phone, setup a new account, and then call CB from your burner and wait 3 hours explaining it to some fuck stick moron who can't speak english. I carry burners on me, and was at an airbnb with no wifi - so not only did I lose signal (which you really wouldn't pay attention to generally, could be storm / tower, could be anything, and your phone doesn't notify you) - but I also lost internet because no wifi - that's why I responded so fast - I notified Coinbase within 30 minutes. Coinbase refused to take any action for 3 hours. !!! - and then only agreed to halt trading after 1 week of me calling them constantly - EVEN AFTER they noticed the identity theft.. But the basic steps to stop this: 1) Don't do any 'auto sync' cloud storage stuff, delete One Drive like it's cancer. 2) Setup email on 2FA - Google Authenticator to crack (TONS less secure now that it is auto cloud'd). 3) Develop a 'unique' password system. This is easy. Think of a word - let's say Bitcoin. Then think of numbers - let's say Bday 4 social - then the website you are on - then special letter. Then shorten the word from Bitcoin to B. So it'd be like: B0115794321Reddit* Nobody is ever cracking that... 'long and crazy' is a small part - the MAIN THING (I use to run with hackers) is the UNIQUENESS "Reddit" - you can't use a bot to auto crack passwords if they all unique. And if you don't know, for $5 I can bet like the top 5 commonly used passwords for every reddit users / and their linked accounts. It's just like a $5 / month fee to get access to all passwords ever leaked - with very good 'networking' (list of websites used) information - only unique passwords stop this. > Another possibility is they hacked the Microsoft account - and his windows profile was set to 'roaming' (again, another bat shit stupid default you must deny) - when set this way, I can duplicate everything on your desktop anywhere in the world in seconds. The hackers have 'hacked' my Microsoft account like 30+ times. This is the only account they hack repeatedly, that and Instagram for some reason lol - ahhh... probably looking for blackmail. 4) Any true self storage needs to be on USB / not your hard drive - keep it disconnected by default, and in a safe so you can't misplace it with ease / 'internet repair guy' steals it and you don't even notice, etc. 5) Keep a VOIP, burner phone handy - know how to use it. I was traveling, and all T mobiles were closed next 2 days (weekend). Without burner I couldn't uber, or do a million other things... 6) You can't really trust anyone else to understand the importance of not being careless. Either buy them a safe... or don't trust them. Dude is blaming his dad (get it) but other than the super easy KeePass password, the rest 'could happen to anybody' and 'f you' for trusting someone else with your life.. even if pops. But ya, my pops made it easy and obvious to me not to trust him haha. Girl Partner did the same, she can barely install windows - I'm positive all her files are OneDrive / remote user profile'd. 7) Your biggest enemy is the internet. You could have a poster board with your seed phrases on it, and go 20+ years without a theft. Anything connected to the internet, getting hacked by anyone world wide... give it like 3 weeks. Paper - physical safes - are your friend - computers are NOT your friend. That's about all I can think of. And (obv) set everything to 2FA rando number code, if it's email or financial. And be aware that these fuckers who shove shit coins with no true market down your throat - basically make whitelisting pointless. You should be allowed to DENY trading into this 'hacker scam' coins - but you can't - so be aware of it (if I have BTC and can not withdraw... I can buy 'SHIBE' or similar penny stock 'at market' - while selling my SHIBE on another website... and effectively I've withdrawn all the funds, and bypassed whitelisting... with some 20% loss or so). I have used Gnosis Safe (The ticker is SAFE) They support different chains. The UI is not bad, but definitely scary at first. You have to know that unlike an EVM wallets, a safe is only for one chain (if you create a safe in ETH, you CANNOT use it for Arbitrum or Optimism, otherwise your assets will be lost)

Ledger recently built key extraction APIs into their firmware. Oh, whoa, holy hell, no. That's when I bailed on their hardware. API stands for Application Programming Interface. An API is basically a list of commands that, when received, output info or execute a function. For example, if you have Philips Hue smart lights, your lights have an API that allows apps to set your lights to whatever color, at whatever brightness and saturation. Pretty cool! Ledger added APIs on Ledger hardware to do KEY EXTRACTION. Granted, there are safety precautions in place, but still... Ledger hardware isn't supposed to have the ability to send the keys over the internet. That's what Ledger told us for YEARS. Then they wrote the code to do it and they put that code on our devices as part of the firmware. Hell no. That's not ok. The best way to prevent this is multi-sig. (Gnosis SAFE) If a key is compromised, or suspected of being compromised, you just replace it. Large amount of ETH like this should not be able to be moved without multiple signatures.

SAFE is a multi-signature wallet. It requires multiple addresses to sign before a transaction can be made. You can use several HW wallets in conjunction with SAFE, making it much more secure then a single HW wallet.

Only issue here is that the addresses do not necessarily carry over to other networks like EOA wallets. You have to be careful for example not to send polygon assets to your SAFE on ethereum.
