Let's be honest ...it isn't about the complexity, because people have physical wallets and they lose them all the time. How much of a pain in the ass is it trying to get all your cards cancelled, then re-ordered, having to wait in the meantime and go into the physical bank for money, and then activate all your new cards. Probably have to go get a new driver's license/ID while you are at it. If you have a proper system in place with YOUR KEYS, then retrieving your lost wallet is no issue.

This might be good for beginners, but if you are serious about DCA and crypto in general don't use it. Main reason for this is that you are not holding the assets, Revolut is "holding" them for you, meaning NOT YOUR KEYS BOT YOUR CRYPTO. You can't move them away to your cold storage or other CEX or DEX and the withdrawal fees are ridicoulous.

Sure can! That’s why all these exchanges collapsed. You “had” 4 bitcoins on the exchange, you saw it right there on your app screen. So saw the same a bunch of other people. Then one day, the exchange stopped allowing withdrawals. Then the next day everyone’s account was frozen. Then they say everyone’s money is gone. Not your keys. Not your bitcoin. If you don’t hold your private keys, you have donated money to a degenerate gambling machine that makes up coins out of nowhere to lend out, make interest on, and when they don’t get it back, you don’t either. You are trusting a degenerate, professional gambler. And they are liars, failures, and ruin lives. One last time…. IF YOU DONT HOLD YOUR PRIVATE KEYS YOU HAVE ZERO CRYPTO. THAT NUMBER YOU SEE ON THE SCREEN OF YOUR APP IS NOTHING!!! NOT UNLESS YOU HOLD YOUR OWN KEYS, DO YOU ACTUALLY OWN ANY CRYPTO.

Basic. You didn’t make use of due diligence. This is a relatively (for you) cheap lesson to learn. Not your KEYS NOT YOUR CRYPTO. Godspeed fellow degenerate.

First of all thank you for replying!!! Coinme partners with coin star and money gram. You can buy crypto from them and have a wallet with them. +0.08936581 Bitcoin was sent to my coinme wallet on February 10,2023. The Blockchain confirms my funds were recieved by my coinme wallet, however the funds were never credited to my wallet, it doesn't show the transaction in my COINME ledger, what did find is the 0.08930801 BITCOIN was removed from my wallet on February 10,2023 and sent to 32fNeD3D4ydDpFhQimTYPbo7ygxmhuUv1t 2FA IS REQUIRED TO WITHDRAW FROM COINME WHICH I NEVER RECEIVED. I was not involved in this WITHDRAWL, I NEVER authorized the withdrawi, the coins don't even show in/out on my wallet ledger..and only someone WITH ENCRYPTION KEYS TO MY WALLET could have removed these funds. I just want to make sure I’m understanding this correctly

I'm not posting on this thread to make friends - I'm posting on this thread to warn noob investors that if they deposit funds on an exchange those funds are not their funds any more. They are now the exchange's fund's, matched by a debt obligation back to the investor. In the event of that exchange's bankruptcy, such an investor may find themselves at the back of the queue of creditors. "Not Your Keys Not Your Coins" is only a meme phrase, rather than an exact extract from statute law - but nevertheless it rather succinctly and beautifully sums up risks and liabilities. **NOT YOUR KEYS, NOT YOUR COINS** (If you wish, you can now descend to anger and abuse again. But that won't change the facts, and it won't prevent me from reiterating the facts. Go for it.)

A good cold wallet like ~~ledger~~ Trezor or bitbox is easier, so it costs more. The device handles key/screen inputs natively so the Phone/PC you connect it to cannot see your PW/KEYS/etc. Spyware can still detect you are using it and potentially steal a screen capture of your balance/TXs, so you still have a point of failure with the device you use the hardware wallet on. A hardware wallet is also very obvious, while Tails USB drive just looks like a USB drive. Tails, being an amnesiac security focused linux install, comes with a learning curve. Security is hard coded to turn your phone/pc into a safe place to view your sensitive data. Its harder to learn, but if done right is more secure and useful. Like the Trezor app, the entirety of tails runs over the TOR network by default. A bonus is you also have an entire secure OS to use for what ever else you might want, like secure messages, extremely private browsing, data storage, etc. Some think its better to trust yourself to manage an OS than trust a device manufacturer to not leak your info or allow a vulnerability. Its also very easy to keep a back up of this USB, which is nice as hardware wallets will break eventually. Electrum is as good a wallet as you can get, but you can absolutely install other wallets if you want. Think of it like having a console vs building a gaming computer. The console does the one thing it is supposed to very well and costs a lot, but if you build and maintain your own gaming PC you have much more control over the cost and can use it for everything else a computer can do. One is easier, the other requires maintenance. Tails has far better opsec IMO and entirely worth the effort it takes to learn how to use it.

Thanks OP on stressing on READ ONLY API KEYS Will try the platform out and give you reviews.

those who buy bitcoin on an exchange and hold the value on their non custodial wallet, mostly HODL their bitcoin. Understand the exchange's coin are the peoples coins. They resell your bitcoins to new comers, and get them to HODL. If the occasional someone decides to take their BTC off the exchange, sometimes that exchange will bitch about it. Remember everyone, NOT YOUR KEYS, NOT YOUR BITCOINS. Cold storage is for the user not the exchange. You are right that what people "think" doesn't matter. The chain reports anything in a wallet as in circulation and so does every exchange. People "think" of it as lost, but as you said, what people think doesn't matter. Until there is a change in what is counted as "in circulation" everything in any wallet counts as in circulation, regardless of how people "think" about it. There is no way to prove what wallets people have lost the KEYS to, and no one has ever "lost" a token, aside from the ones sent to the wrong chain entirely. How you think about it doesnt matter.

Richard Stallman explains why unfree or propriety software is bad: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPPikY3uLIQ > 2. Ledger Live is satan and tracks your every move. ...But either way, IT DOESN’T HAVE YOUR PRIVATE KEYS. So it can’t rat you out, can’t be hacked to reveal your keys, and can’t cause the loss of your funds. Untrue. It does reveal your *addresses* to Ledger Inc. And I actually applaud their recent "update" to Ledger Live which now collects your IP address, which means your personal balance is now forever tied to your IP address, which is tied to your identity (in most cases). I applaud their move, because your IP address was probably tracked by three-letter-agencies anyway, but now it is explicit and the user knows what's up and hasn't a false sense of security. Maybe that overt IP tracking was actually a canary signal by Ledger. > 3. The Ledger device is unclean because it handles more than just bitcoin. Promoting scams is immoral, promoting illegal securities illegal, often but not always they are identical. If it only were USDC, yes maybe I could understand that, but they support a lot of shitcoins that have no use other than enrich their creators. I think if you already own a Ledger then you should use it. The device is fine. But please use a Free Software Front-End like Sparrow Wallet or Electrum (https://electrum.org). But if you don't already own a hardware wallet, please choose one that respects your freedoms or [make your own cold storage](https://old.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/vm1e90/how_can_i_store_safely_my_btc/idyy3j0/).

shills in effect, are nobody watching what FTX did and you still trust CEX, DEX / DEFI is only way. not your keys, not your coins. any EXCHANGE/BROKER that dont give you the "COINS back to your own KEYS" is a 100% SCAM OVER TIME.

This sub maybe shilled a lot shit but one thing is always said, but you guys really were to greedy to invest in it: Hard wallet! How many times I read the warning, „NOT YOUR KEYS NOT YOUR BLA BLA BLA“. I really feel bad for everyone who lost money, but damn it’s really your fault very much.

And then when someone post another "not your keys, not your coins" people get mad and "oh God, not again". We, the ones who understand the importance of taking custody of your own coins needs to keep repeating it forever -- no matter what others said. If we just convince 1 out of 5 then at least this one person is safe. That said, don't rush things. Taking custody is something EASY but doing it 100% safe and with backups etc can take a couple hours of research. Again... NOT YOUR KEYS, NOT YOUR COINS!!

what "those". My friend, you do not know what you are talking about. DEFI is a scam. If you want to enter into a smart contract written by a third party to hold your assets for you while you either earn or trade or wrap or any other nonsense, be my guest. There is only one rule to crypto. NOT YOUR KEYS, NOT YOUR COINS! If someone else is holding your coins for you in a centralized or decentralized manner, you will lose them eventually. All assets must be in a self custodial wallet. Period.

This is wonderful news! They shouldn’t be trusted. No one should. Don’t trust, Verify! NOT YOUR KEYS, NOT YOUR COIN. This is incredibly bullish for price, because it reduced the ability of exchanges to sell fake Bitcoin! And the sooner people stop gambling in fixed casinos, the sooner people can focus on using Bitcoin as a unit of account.

In my honest opinion, CeX are just as important in the crypto ecosystem as DeX for trading and swapping. Almost every new person to crypto is going to make their first crypto purchase via CeX only. People saying CeX must die don't understand that it will only hamper the crypto adoption seperately. Both CeX and DeX are necessary for crypto ecosystem. That being said, I want to point out two things: 1. CeX must be regulated. CeX are just traditional businesses that trade cryptocurrencies. Regulations will decrease the number of bad actors in the CeX ecosystem. **CeX/=Crypto**, and it needs to be regulated. 2. Once you get a proper idea of the crypto ecosystem, it's always better to store your coins in cold (hardware) wallet. If you don't have funds, store it over software wallet. There are so many software wallets available for free. Both of these options are much better than storing your coins on CeX. You have better control over your funds in your own wallet. NOT YOUR KEYS, NOT YOUR CHEESE. 3. CeX should be used for trading. Trading fees in CeX are like 20-30% of that compared to trading over a wallet. (Ledgor swap has 0.25% trading fees compared to 0.1% in Binance).

Should say that the amount of bitcoin that can be sold is infinite. How can they sell an infinite amount of bitcoin, you say? They do it by never actually transferring it to *you* where it's exclusively in *your* control. They pretend to give it to you while *actually* taking your fiat dollars, showing you a nice comfy number on a stupid HTML page that means *NOTHING*. YOU DON'T OWN BITCOIN YOU DON'T HAVE THE KEYS TO. You can take that to the bank.

You don't. You make another wallet with keys that you control, BACKUP THE KEYS/SEED PHRASE, and send the coins from Coinbase to the wallet who's keys you own. Do your own research as to what wallet to use that fits your needs, but eclair, breez, phoenix, and electrum are all good wallets for Android that are vetted by the community
