12 Creative ideas to hide your seed phrase
These scammers try too hard smh. DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS EMAL. THEY WANT YOUR SEED SO THEY CAN HAVE ACCESS TO YOUR WALLET. Not mine bitch.

Can’t you understand a basic concept. DO NOT ENTER YOUR SEED ON ANY COMPUTER/PHONE/PRINTER? Now tell me how do you intend to encrypt it before it goes onto a USB device?
This is the way. Don't look back - you're still early. Make sure you invest in a hardware wallet and STORE YOUR SEED PHRASE OFFLINE IN A SECURE LOCATION. Also, ensure you use a password manager such as Bitwarden with unique and strong passwords for all your accounts and enable 2FA TOTP for everything. \*\*DO NOT PUT YOUR SEED PHRASE IN THE PASSWORD MANAGER\*\* don't share it with anyone, but do document a succession plan for a loved one. Other than that, enjoy the ride. Welcome aboard.
Before you buy you need to decide on how you are going to manage it. * From whom are you going to buy? And why? * How are you going to store it securely? What hardware wallet do you want to use? Do you want to run a multi-sig setup or not? Why? * How are you going to store your seed phrase? Do you have a good memory? Do you have family that you'd leave it to in the event of your death? * Do you want to lump sum and drop 35k all at once or do you want to DCA smaller amounts? * Are you buying for yourself, your posterity, or both? * Why bitcoin? Why not gold, silver, stocks, bonds, etc? There is a lot to know and unfortunately finding all of the answers in one place in an easily understood format isn't really possible. At a bare minimum IMO, you need the following: 1. Education. This is THE most important aspect of the entire journey you are embarking on. Learn about the history of monetary systems, how/why they changed, and then learn how/why bitcoin came into existence. You need to completely change your perception of economics in order to properly understand and respect what bitcoin is and what it could be one day. Bitcoin University on YouTube is a good place to start for beginners IMO. ([https://www.youtube.com/@Bitcoin\_University](https://www.youtube.com/@Bitcoin_University)) The videos are usually \~10 minutes long and are presented in an easily understood way. Once you get your feet wet, you need to read the whitepaper. ([https://bitcoin.org/en/bitcoin-paper](https://bitcoin.org/en/bitcoin-paper)) Then check out any number of the bitcoin and fiat books out there. There are lots of people here who have lots of reading suggestions, I am sure. 2. A good exchange to purchase your bitcoin from. I personally use Strike for a number of reasons, but there are other very good companies out there you can get it from. 3. A hardware wallet to send larger amounts of bitcoin to. This is NOT optional when you're talking about owning a whole coin, so don't even ask if you can forego this part, because in my mind it's a fundamental law of nature. 4. Along with the wallet you will have a seed phrase that is generated, so you will need a method to store it. This is essentially your key to your bitcoin and if you forget the phrase or the paper or titanium it's on, you've essentially lost everything. **IMPORTANT!!! NEVER EVER TAKE A PICTURE OF YOUR SEED PHRASE! NEVER UPLOAD IT OR SHARE IT WITH ANYONE ONLINE!** Your best bet IMO is a titanium seed phrase plate.
Im not understanding how you can give people $20-$50 worth of crypto when **fees** are going to eat up the majority of it. Give them something they can actually use like a real crypto... not a voucher. Go for a low fee crypto. Set up a wallet for them with money in it, write their seed phrases and give it to them. TELL THEM YOU KNOW THEIR SEED PHRASE. They will then have to download a wallet, access their funds - hopefully even make a new wallet and transfer the funds you gave them to it. And there you go, they get crypto and actually learn how to use it in the process. Personally, ADA has had a pretty good user experience for me with fees in the pennies, but feel free to use w.e
before you go about spending big bucks on bitcoin, learn the importance of HARDWARE WALLETS and why YOU SHOULD STAMP YOUR SEED PHRASE ON A METAL PLATE AND NEVER SHOW ANYONE IT EVER. once you understand it, feel free to buy in either one lump sum, or dca that $10k over time.
Yes, and most of the more popular wallets will link easily with a lot of the more popular hardware devices. Some hardware will list what wallet software works best or even have something they recommend specifically but much of it is enter changeable. I’d recommend using a laptop or desktop that you don’t do a lot of downloading or surfing with just as a precaution but not absolutely necessary but this way you don’t have to worry too much about viruses or malware. Go on YouTube and take a look at BTCSessions. Ben has amazing videos for all the most popular wallets and hardware. Purchase your hardware directly from the vendor, NOT a third party like eBay, Amazon, or Best Buy. NEVER SHARE YOUR SEED PHRASE and do not enter it into any website or app. Only the device itself when necessary. Write it down and put it in a safe place.
Currently I have 3 HW wallets: one is a backup of the other. All have PINs and PASSPHRASES. But I worry about the seeds: they are the weak link. I might try with a cypher though, ot separate the SEED in two. It's just that it's a lot of money, and I would like to have very strong backups and be very safe.
$1000 is a great amount to either hit it big or lose everything. Since you are young, buying bitcoin is a great way to set yourself up later in life. How you do it is important....don't leave BTC on an exchange (like coinbase or binance), if you self custody, MAKE BACKUPS OF YOUR SEED PHRASE, and never tell anyone how much Bitcoin you own. If you want to get tricky and avoid taxes, get a self-directed ROTH IRA and hold GBTC(Grayscale Bitcoin Fund). If it grows to a large sum, you can use the balance as collateral for your first home purchase. Any other amount you take out is taxed as regular income + 10% penalty, so be wise if you go this route.
Download STRIKE app, send cash to it, buy bitcoin. Send bitcoin to hardware wallet, make sure to have METAL ENGRAVED BACKUP SEED of hardware wallet.
Bit.. WUT? Bitrot? Yeah! I had that too. Couldn't pee for a week. Had to get a prescription! Wait... wut? SEED PHRASE? Not interested pervert! Go away before I call the cops!
It seems you are on the right path. It’s good to learn about UTXOs. They are one of the foundational elements of Bitcoin. It’s how everything gets tracked on the blockchain. Also, unless you feel you are compromised. You don’t need to send BTC from one wallet to another. You can just use the SEED phrase you have to initialize your new Hardware wallet. But again, really depends on if you believe Ledger has your SEED.
Guys - i appreciate the effort but please understand - ARMORY WALLET DOES NOT USE SEED PHRASES. the only information i have to work with is the original btc address i sent the money to, my wallet passphrase, and the Watch-Only Root Data and Watch-only root ID. so at this point im totally lost
The reason I suggested a Tangem card is because it doesn't use a SEED phrase so there is nothing to get confiscated. And the card just looks like a credit card. But don't lose it or the backup card.
>and asks for my seedphrase Your computer should NEVER ASK FOR YOUR SEED PHRASE. Never. And of course you should never type it into your computer! If you have done this, you need to start over with a new seed. Are you sure you're using a legitimate copy of Blockstream Green, downloaded from [blockstream.com](https://blockstream.com)?
Put the study cap on... Learn what a non-custodial wallet is (just enough to use one.). Learn what a SEED phrase is. Learn its importance. How To/Not to store it. Learn what a DEX (decentralized exchange) is and how it works. Learn what P2P (peer to peer) exchange/trading is
that's just sad.. Remember KIDS , don't stream your SEED /s
This is kinda cynical, but true. At least he hadn’t named .txt file “CRYPTO WALLET SEED”

Op please check that the matic is the official matic. You using metamask, and it is registering is a good sign but just check on the plyscan explorer that it shows the right token. Also just as an extra precaution check your revokes, and if this is an older hot wallet I highly recommend making a new one that you will never interact with. Congratulations on the big lucky win, please be safe as people will snoop your wallet, dm you scams, and try to hustle it away that you've claimed your a noob. Before making ANY moves if you at all feel uncomfortable, stop and ask. Can dm me if necessary I've worked full time in defi for 2 years. Use test transaction and lasty NEVER GIVE OUT YOUR SEED PHRASE OR CONNECT YPUR WALLET TO UNOFFICIAL SITES. CHECK 5 TIMES.
I 100% agree with this, that is what Frogwallets is for. No matter what device you're using, what app you have, YOU MUST SECURE THE SEED. The frogwallet will allow you to do that and store it in a waterproof, tamper evident, and add in the fire wallet for fire resistance. It may seem odd to buy a frogwallet when you can just write it down on any ole piece of paper but, the reality is piece of papers get lost or can be damaged if not stored properly, also if something happens to you, is your next of kin going to understand what they have? Frogwallets look important and that could be the difference between trash or cash. Being safe was my #1 concern before I started seriously buying any crypto. I thought of everything for myself and a couple friends, and really think a frogwallet may save peoples finanicalhood.
This thread is speculating (incorrectly) on the computational effort to brute force ONE DETERMINISTIC WALLET SEED when the 24-word mnemonic for that seed is known but the words are in the wrong order. If successful, the operator of such a supercomputer would be able to steal all the coins from THAT ONE WALLET. All other wallets are safe. Unless the wallet holds billions of dollars in assets, it's not going to be a profitable venture.
For the bitcoins a single address, yes, 2^160 is the important number. But no one keeps all their bitcoin in one address. In the one-in-a-bazillion chance someone stumbles across one of the many private keys to one of your addresses, they'll only be able to steal the coins in that address. On the other hand, if two wallets generate the same SEED, the entire wallet is compromised.
>Addresses are what actually matter. Yes >Each private key is 256 bits. Yes >Seeds generation private keys. Yes >Private keys are hashed to create addresses. Yes >Many private keys can hash to the same address. Yes >Every one of the 2160 addresses has an average of 296 private keys that map to it. It Yes >It doesn't matter which private key was intended to control an address that you send to, because that information is not in the block chain. Yes >All of those 296 private keys (and the seeds that generated them) are equally able to spend from the address. Yes But none of that is what OP asked in this post. OP asked, "Is it possible for a cold wallet to generate a SEED and another cold wallet coincidentally generate the same SEED?"
Addresses are 160 bits. HD wallet seeds are between 128 and 512 bits, depending on entropy used. OP's question was "Is it possible for a cold wallet to generate a SEED and another cold wallet coincidentally generate the same SEED?" A wallet that uses 24 words from the 2048-word BIP-39 word list can generate 2048^24 (minus checksum bits) distinct SEEDS.
In a strange way I agree that this kind of „peer review process“ is better than ripping the private keys out honest people….NEVER SHARE THE SEED/KEYS
>this user sent me screenshots of every step INCLUDING A SCREENSHOT OF THE 12 WORD SEED PHRASE of his vault!!! It’s a trap for your gas fee on ETH. They have coins like Moon or stablecoins, but there is no gas fee to transact. If you deposit some ETH to transfer their stablecoins, they’ll steal it, like a dust attack. If you deposit, it will be gone in a minute. It’s just $2 or $3, but ten times a day is a big scam.
BIP-39 wallet with passphrase. Use a passphrase that is extremely memorable to you in particular but don't store it with your seed words. It doesn't even have to be an overly complex password, just a unique sentence or phase that has meaning for you but nobody else. If you're still paranoid about forgetting it, store your passphase in a password manager (NOT THE SEED). Keep multiple copies of your seedwords (without the passphase) in separate physical locations using tamper evident bags and check on them once in a while. If one is missing or opened, don't worry as it is still protected by that passphase. Simply start a new wallet and transfer over. This is sufficient enough for most people. Of course, there's always more options such as multi-sig but for your average person, it's not really necessary and may actually reduce your security by over-complication unless you really know what you're doing.
This is bad advice. Good advice is: DO NOT LOSE YOUR SEED PHRASE. Imagine being retired and trying to remember your seed phrase. Write it down and put it in a safe place.
>You on the other hand are; and are choosing to be cruel for no reason You would rather I enabled the stupid thinking that this OP showed? Tell him that he made a mistake and that it will be ok? No, I will not do that. He will remember this tough love and he will do better for it. He lied or intentionally left out the information that he uploaded his SEED PHRASE and then said he was hacked. He wasted everyone's time here including yours.. calling him stupid IS being nice. So you are telling me there are no stupid people in this crypto space and that we as a group should not call them stupid? If you think this is cruel..wake up and do some critical thinking here... that way I wont have to call you out as stupid. Can't lead a stupid human to water and expect them to know what to do with it. I am done here.
> “A paper with 12 words is more suspicious than a color palette labeled like 'my new home wall colors,' for example, or inside a styles.css of your [website],” he said. Who wants to take bets on how long until we get a post to this subreddit saying OMG MY BITCOIN WALLET WAS HACKED HOW HOW HOW THE ONLY PLACE I KEPT MY SEED WAS IN THE CSS FOR MY WEBSITE ...
I was waiting for the fold to come out, to now … warning all my friends about their new SEED backup function Yikes how times have changed
It gets interesting now. You have received a physical coin and a paper with words on it? The physical coin is a trinket to accompany the real gift (Bitcoin) in that case. The words represent the key to your Bitcoin, so anyone with these words has the 'key'. Never give them to anyone online. You can input them into an online wallet, they're called a SEED phrase. Usually the top 3-4 Google ads are scams who just want to steal your words. One more note (before you get to enthousiastic). Bitcoin can be broken into smaller pieces, so most likely you havent received "1" Bitcoin of $25.000 It might just be 0.0001 Bitcoin on there which sounds more likely
Ledger isn't even a hot wallet. it's a burning screaming ball of fusion wallet. EVERY SINGLE SEED PHRASE is with Ledger, even before all this happened. they admitted they got them as people set up their device originally.
There was a password manager that got hacked, too, no? Don't remember which one... but I just memorize all my passwords. But the beauty of BIP39 is that you can store your stainless steel seed plates in multiple locations without fear that your wallet is compromised IF YOU SECURE THE SEED WITH A PASSPHRASE that only *you* know.
It sounds like you’re using a “hot” wallet (software wallet). You’ll definitely want to ditch that fast, like yesterday. A software wallet isn’t very safe, especially for large amounts of coin because it’s connected to the internet. Get a hardware wallet. Your keys are stored in the device not your laptop, and the device never connects to the internet. I use Ledger and haven’t had any problems. However, there’s been ongoing controversy with Ledger as of late, and many people are avoiding them now. IF THE HARDWARE WALLET YOU PURCHASE COMES WITH SEED WORDS ALREADY WRITTEN DOWN, DO NOT USE IT. Store your seed words on a piece of paper or steel in a safe place that only you have access to. Keeping them in a fire/flood proof box is always a good idea. NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES TYPE OR ENTER YOUR SEED WORDS INTO YOUR COMPUTER OR PHONE. NO LEGITIMATE PROVIDER SUCH AS COINBASE OR LEDGER WILL EVER ASK FOR YOUR SEED WORDS. DON’T TAKE A PICTURE OF THE PAPER YOUR SEED IS WRITTEN ON. NEVER TELL ANYONE WHERE YOUR SEED WORDS ARE STORED. NEVER EVEN MENTION THAT YOU OWN A HARDWARE WALLET OR HOW MUCH BTC YOU HAVE. DO NOT RESPOND TO DMS FROM ANYONE. THEY ARE SCAMMERS. Let me know if you have any other questions.
I use LastPass’s emergency access feature and told a close friend how to request access. In LastPass I have instructions on how to find my seed phrases, which are hammered into a titanium plate in my house somewhere. NEVER STORE YOUR SEED PHRASE ONLINE Even in an encrypted password manager.
I agree they could have released a new product but there would be people mad about not getting functionality that could be done with a firmware update. It's an opt-in service that you need to physically authorize on your device. It's not something they can active remotely, and if you don't opt in, there's no risk. Everyone screaming about "BUT THE GOVERNMENT COULD GET OUR SEED PHRASE" is being ridiculous. 99% of users aren't ever going to be in that situation and if they are, we've already seen the governments playbook on the matter. They are almost guaranteed get your seed phrase from you if they want it. They've held people on contempt charges for long stretches of time, allowed people to broken deals for less prison time, they can freeze all your assets and they'll absolutely track every coin you've ever purchased. Unless you are in a very small minority of people, you're real identity is tied to your crypto somewhere. You're not going to outsmart the government when it comes to find it and if they decide that you've done something egregious, you're never going to to be able to move that crypto without them catching you.
Optional means the software on your Ledger is capable of sending your SEED to some remote server. What if a hacker or some government decides to enable that without your knowledge and take your seed? It's like putting a window in a sealed vault and acting surprised when someone breaks through it.
NEVER ENTER YOUR SEED WORDS INTO A COMPUTER!! this is why I don't like Trezor and ledger. They get people used to typing the most sensitive data into their insecure computers. You also shouldn't use wallet software and hardware from the same vendor. But that's a different type of attack.
If you didn't have a paper backup, or media backup in an EMP shielded container, you lost everything. Here's the solution: Cold computer -> SEED -> Cipher -> AES string encryption -> QR code generator -> printer -> encrypted paper backup that withstands EMP attack. Bonus: Make fire/water proof: QR code -> laser etcher -> Titanium plate
\-6 Triple check addresses before sending a transaction \-7 ALWAYS send a test transaction with minimum withdrawals limit \-8 no matter what you see or what you do, DONT PUT YOUR SEED PHRASES INTO WEBSITES \-9 Buy high sell low
She is not the one. She is good looking but she is not your soul mate. DO NOT GIVE HER YOUR SEED.
NOT MY SEED PHRASE! *covers butt with bullet proof vest*
Less this be a lesson to all. If you have over one billion in crypto currency, burn the SEED into your memory and never commit it to the material world!
What is this clown talking about. 1. "the numbers in crypto aren't real" - willing buyer willing seller you dumb MF 2. "millions of people have lost access to their account at FTX" - first of all, the exchange was fraudulent, not the crypto infrastructure itself. Self custody, have you heard of it!? (EVEN IF I LOST MY OWN PRIVATE KEY, SEED PHRASE, ETC -> if I lose my cash or a gold bar, is fiat and gold a ponzi too? I am pretty sure I can't get those back if I drop them somewhere.) 3. "NFT hate" -> okay the NFT arguments sound alot like the NFT hate comments on this sub 4. "Wash Trading" - do you think this doesn't happen in legacy markets? lmao
I hope there SEED is not stored on Evernote
Stick with the Ledger, since the SEED is what counts so protect those words and you'll be fine regardless of what happens to the Ledger software. The seed can be used with other software like Trezor, Electrum and other applications.
If you go that route (better think twice if starting smaller would be a good idea) be sure to: \- Be ready to hold at least 3 to 6 years \- Use a reputable Hardwarewallet like trezor or bitbox02 to store, NOT on any exhange \- Buy at a big exchange (coinbase, kraken, not sure if I would currently use binance) and GTFO to your hardware wallet \- Double Backup your seed on steel \- Ideally add a passphrase to the see and double backup that also \- Store the backup in different locations, not together. \- READ A LOT about how hardware wallet work \- NEVER LET YOUR SEED TOUCH THE INTERNET (NO CLOUD, NO CHAT, NOT even typing it anywhere other than the hardware wallet itself, keep it away from cameras
You are not wrong. Not sure if Coinbase is available for you, but they are a public company and seem to be accepted by most banks. Exchanges are the easiest and safest. However you may have a hard time buying thousands of dollars of bitcoin on day one. Usually it takes time for an exchange to raise your spending limits. Contact them and they will speed up the process. Buy a Hardware wallet. A Trezor is my favorite. It’s easy and basically air gapped from hackers. Even if your computer is compromised, you can still rest assured no information from your Trezor will be affected. It will generate a 24 word seed phrase that is next to impossible to hack. You don’t ever say it out loud next to a microphone, or take a picture of it. You write it down and store it where nobody can find it. If you have a lot of bitcoin I would suggest stamping your 24 word seed (in order) into a titanium sheet of metal and burying it somewhere you won’t forget. Also don’t keep your hardware wallet and password near each other. If you own a safe you can store your password in it and keep your Trezor in the closet or under the bed. If you lose your Trezor or password you can always recoup your wallet by your seed. DONT LOSE OR SHARE YOUR SEED. When sending funds from an exchange to a wallet, always send a little bit back and forth to get used to it. Sometimes it takes minutes. In 2017 sending bitcoin took about a day if you set your fee low. Then when you are comfortable, send larger amounts.
Great comment! Just to piggyback on this, I would stress that the whole process is very easy. I put it off for so long thinking the whole idea of setting up a hardware wallet and moving crypto around would be a really complicated and stressful process. The whole thing (including setting it up, sending a test transaction, factory resetting the whole thing and setting it up again to see that my BTC was still there) took maybe an hour, and most of that time was because I was doing everything slowly and carefully to make sure it was right. I reckon if I had to go through the process again now that I am more confident it would barely take half an hour. Just MAKE SURE YOU WRITE DOWN YOUR SEED PHRASE CORRECTLY AND STORE IT SOMEWHERE SAFE! If you lose your hardware wallet or it stops working but have the seed phrase you are fine.
The single biggest mistake most people who create a vault aren't doing is BACKING UP THEIR SEED PHRASE! That's extremely important because Reddit cannot help you get back into it.
Biden has the seed phrase on a sticky note titled "SEED PHRASE" next to his laptop screen
even being a "crypto newbie", without understanding simple simple terms like "KEEP YOUR SEED PHRASE TO YOURSELF", or interacting with basically anything online with your wallet linked; scamming is definitely not as simple as i make it out to be; and if a victim is scammed for a few hundred due to ignorance thats totally understandable; but nothing pisses me off more these days then headlines like "user loses 300k in crypto due to clicking sketchy link or email", people especially newcomers throw so much money into cryptocurrencies but god forbit they take a couple weeks to familiarize themselves with the space, when the average newcomer refuses to buy a hardware wallet, idk man seems like people will still be getting scammed and finessed in 2030 and beyond, and newbies continue to bleed
I hope he‘s not giving her his SEED.
It's called SEED for a reason. You must bury it. *(a copy)*

No it's an exchange and I've got bad news bud, you don't actually own any bitcoin (yet) Download a proper Bitcoin waller like brd or samurai, make anew wallet, WRITE DOWN YOUR SEED PHRASE, and transfer your bitcoin from the exchange to your wallet. Then you'll actually own bitcoin. Not your keys, not your coins.
In my experience, there aren't many places a burger WON'T go, especially one with a sesame SEED bun ;)
Not trying to single you out, your comment is harmless but… this sub is way too harsh on people who simply share their ideas. This place is honestly a bit too cancerous in that regard. It’s a decent post, and he ended up being right lol. Maybe the pump doesn’t last. But up is up. But I guess we’d rather have a daily “comedy” post at the top right? The same old fucking boomer financial jokes just rewritten in crypto flavor? So hot right now. Herp Derp guys I gave my wife my SEED get it? HAH. 🙄
You gotta keep sharing your seed, but hide your seed phrase. See the trick is to have lots of boating accidents each year and lose your seed phrase, but claim your seed on taxes. I'm telling you, keep the wife at home if she's not making enough money to cover daycare with her own paycheck and it works out. 😀 Taxes are great. P.S. while it's okay to lose a seed PHRASE it is not okay to lose a SEED. Pretty sure there's some criminal issues with that and it'll DEFINITELY affect your ability to DCA.
Don’t buy on Amazon , order from ledger directly. NEVER SHARE YOUR SEED PHRASE AND PUT IT IN DIFFERENT SPOTS ! NO FOTO, SCREENSHOT OR ANY OTHER COPY PASTE , JUST A SHEET OF PAPER , maybe a CRYPTO STEEL. That’s my opinion. Have a nice day
**Disclaimer: Never run a random stranger's code unless you either understand it, or if it's been audited by an entity you trust.** - And here's the rest of it. For those interested, uncomment this line to see what phrase it's checking: > #print('\''+p+'\'') Uncomment this line to see which address that is: > #print(computed_address) - Computing only one million combinations took my machine a good little while. There are probably much more efficient ways to code something this. If you're actually trying to find the private key, you won't by doing it this way, though you might be able to shave off a couple thousand years by trying random combinations of those words, instead of sequential ones, hoping for the Birthday Paradox to pull through. I'm only posting this for those interested in what the process might look at, there's no need to actually run the code. - import itertools import binascii, hashlib, hmac, struct from ecdsa.curves import SECP256k1 from eth_utils import to_checksum_address, keccak as eth_utils_keccak BIP39_PBKDF2_ROUNDS = 2048 BIP39_SALT_MODIFIER = "mnemonic" BIP32_PRIVDEV = 0x80000000 BIP32_CURVE = SECP256k1 BIP32_SEED_MODIFIER = b'Bitcoin seed' ETH_DERIVATION_PATH = "m/44'/60'/0'/0" class PublicKey: def __init__(self, private_key): self.point = int.from_bytes(private_key, byteorder='big') * BIP32_CURVE.generator def __bytes__(self): xstr = self.point.x().to_bytes(32, byteorder='big') parity = self.point.y() & 1 return (2 + parity).to_bytes(1, byteorder='big') + xstr def address(self): x = self.point.x() y = self.point.y() s = x.to_bytes(32, 'big') + y.to_bytes(32, 'big') return to_checksum_address(eth_utils_keccak(s)[12:]) def mnemonic_to_bip39seed(mnemonic, passphrase): mnemonic = bytes(mnemonic, 'utf8') salt = bytes(BIP39_SALT_MODIFIER + passphrase, 'utf8') return hashlib.pbkdf2_hmac('sha512', mnemonic, salt, BIP39_PBKDF2_ROUNDS) def bip39seed_to_bip32masternode(seed): k = seed h = hmac.new(BIP32_SEED_MODIFIER, seed, hashlib.sha512).digest() key, chain_code = h[:32], h[32:] return key, chain_code def derive_bip32childkey(parent_key, parent_chain_code, i): assert len(parent_key) == 32 assert len(parent_chain_code) == 32 k = parent_chain_code if (i & BIP32_PRIVDEV) != 0: key = b'\x00' + parent_key else: key = bytes(PublicKey(parent_key)) d = key + struct.pack('>L', i) while True: h = hmac.new(k, d, hashlib.sha512).digest() key, chain_code = h[:32], h[32:] a = int.from_bytes(key, byteorder='big') b = int.from_bytes(parent_key, byteorder='big') key = (a + b) % BIP32_CURVE.order if a < BIP32_CURVE.order and key != 0: key = key.to_bytes(32, byteorder='big') break d = b'\x01' + h[32:] + struct.pack('>L', i) return key, chain_code def parse_derivation_path(str_derivation_path): path = [] if str_derivation_path[0:2] != 'm/': raise ValueError("Can't recognize derivation path. Make sure you write down the new seed and label it as NEW SEED. Just in case you find your old recovery seed. This has happened many times and the most recent seed or active seed gets disposed of.
Here's how it works: You start with a 256-bit random number. From that your wallet will calculate and present to you a 24-word *seed phrase*. There is a one-to-one association between your seed phrase and your random number. That is, given your seed phrase, a wallet can calculate your exact 256-bits of randomness. You 256-bits of randomness are the input for computing a sequence of private keys for you. As long as you start out with the exact same 256 bits, your wallet will regenerate the exact same sequence of private keys. **Bottom line**: Your *seed phrase* is your back up, in case of losing your wallet, having a hard drive crash, having your home burn to the ground, having your hardware wallet stolen, etc. ***As long as you have access to a copy of your SEED PHRASE you can always regain access to your Bitcoin.*** For example, buy a new wallet, enter the old seed phrase, and you're right back to where you started before your hardware wallet died. If you don't properly back up your seed phrase, you're just asking for it. Back up your seed phrase. Some people stamp it onto metal. Simpler: Create two handwritten copies on decent paper with pencil. Don't use a computer printer, your seed phrase could become compromised. Don't write it with ink, it might fade but pencil will not. Double, then triple check the copies for accuracy. Remember, your life savings are at stake. Store each copy to protect it from moisture and/or paper-eating insects, mold, etc. For example, ziploc baggies, small plastic bottles, pvc sprinkler tubing capped at the ends. Store the copies in separate locations in case of fire, flood, etc. Think long and hard about really, really good hiding locations. A home safe is a bad location. During a potential home invasion robbery, they will aim a gun at your head and force you to open your safe -- make sure your seed phrase is not inside. Similarly, so-called "safe deposit boxes" are not all that secure. Bad places for seed phrases. Better places might include a gap behind some dry wall which has then been patched and repainted. In addition to having written copies in separate locations, memorize your seed phrase and quietly rehearse it at least once per day, ideally in the bathroom with the door shut, the fan running, and the water running (and no phones, cameras, or other microphoned devices nearby).
You’re probably holding like $5 dollars with this type of question. They say WRITE DOWN YOUR SEED LIKE ITS THE NUCLEAR CODE. You lost your seed which is why your asking. Thank you on behalf of scarcity, on the flip side, hope you recover it
Worse: they encourage you to back up your SEED PHRASE to the iCloud. WTF.
1. SAVE YOUR SEED PHRASE! 2. They can be sold but if you sell more than 25% you’ll only earn 10% 3. Pretty bullish but honestly the sell pressure will be so strong as price increases, I wouldn’t expect $1 for a few years. 4. Use case is kinda meh right now, just hold.
ISPs aren't exchanges. CEX = Centralized Exchange like Coinbase, Binance, Kraken. What they mean is aything you buy on an exchange isn't REALLY yours until you transfer it from the exchange to your wallet. Your wallet can only be controlled by someone who has the SEED PHRASE. Don't ever give this to anyone since this is basically the key to your wallet and coins.
Yeah I have multiple, if your house burns down and you have one at work you can create a new wallet and transfer the funds. DO NOT STORE YOUR SEED ONLINE. I also have uninitialized ones to transfer the funds to
When you add a wallet, there is an option at the bottom to import. Only put your public key in there. NOT YOUR SEED or anything else you may have(like it asks). This can be a hassle if you generate a new address everytime. For my cold storage... I just reuse the same address everytime. Everytime I send to cold storage, I just pull up my imported watch only address, copy my public key from BlueWallet, and use it(the same address). I don't have a need for privacy with my cold storage(at least not yet).. So it just works without ever needing to plug up my hardware wallet.
this! - and remember - "not your keys, not your coins" create a wallet (get a hardwarewallet like ledger, bitbox, trezor, ... or an app on a phone for small amounts, e.g. bluewallet) and KEEP YOUR SEED HANDWRITTEN ON PAPER (!!!) in a safe place. never store it on a deigital device.
🚨 whop whop 🚨 POLICE! STOP! DROP AND GIVE US YOUR SEED!
self-custody has lot to improve yet... Sometimes i feel like Coinbase is much much safer for certain type of people. Some of my fam are into crypto and they are so easily to be hacked, even if they use a hardware wallet, they would just write a txt file called SEED PHRASE on desktop. Profesional custodians/companies should be here.
And Meta Mask can be used in line with say a Ledger Nano X to secure even further ( have to confirm via the NANO to make any transfers via Meta Mask ) …. Note ….. NEVER IMPORT SEED PHRASE FROM LEDGER INTO META MASK !!
I seen your comment about 36 hours. What you can do is load up all the paperwork. Look at the link for the hardware wallet. There is others out there. But look for that. That's likely where it is. Anyways, pack up everything and move it to a safe area where you can go through things line by line. # Look for things out of place like a bolt with a large number of washers on them. THIS WILL BE THE SEED # STEP 1: Find out if he even had enough crypto On the mining stuff in the configuration it should link to where the address is. Try to look into this and this will tell you 1. if there is any crypto sitting in it 2. if he might of moved it around to another wallet and it is just sitting there. If you see none, you will obviously figure out real fast there is no point in looking for the seed. Like just because it was just mining. It might be $5 or whatever. So you will know how big of a loss you're looking at if you don't get it. Assuming you have a hard time doing this. Try to find tax records. Many of us try to stay on the right side of the law, and keep track of this stuff. If you have access to his computers. See if you have access to last pass or another password manager. Maybe he had the browser save this. Look at sites like Koinly, Cointracker, and other places. If something matches and you can get in. This is another way to find the address giving he properly documented things for taxes. # Step 2: Getting in If you found something or didn't, with that setup it is likely he was using a hardware wallet. In the stuff look for things like [https://shop.ledger.com/pages/ledger-nano-x](https://shop.ledger.com/pages/ledger-nano-x) Note there is a few types of hardware wallets and a few companies that make it. If you have this or something like it, look for a pin key, seed phrase, or something. He might of used a password manager for this, email, note on the computer, or physical note. Many of us use a bolt and washer. It also could be a metal plate or a number of other things. It is important to note the hardware wallet likely has a security feature. Ledger wallets like what I link you, I think we can only get a pin wrong 3 or 5 times in a row. So be careful. What you're looking for is something with 12 to 24 random words on it. It is possible he used software wallets. Check his phone and look for apps like Trustwallet and anything else crypto related. While you are there, check the pictures. He might of taken a picture of the seed phrase. Check the computer if it has software wallets on it. Note he could've used something like Coinbase wallet where you can use your Coinbase login # Step 3: Once you are in Talk to an accountant and a lawyer on what to do. Depending on the country and honestly depending on the family will depend on what needs to be done. It is best to get with your lawyers and what not to send stuff to the exchanges he was using. Hopefully during this process you would've found which exchanges he was with and what was in every one of them. (Not legal advice, but it might be easier and quicker if you can get in to simply move it to a wallet you control or his wallets. Some exchanges aren't straight forward. Even more if say he was a USA person using Binance under a VPN and backflips.)
Bruh your advice is terrible. DO NOT AND I REPEAT DO NOT EVER EVER EVER EVER store your keys in a cloud service like google drive….. NEVER UPLOAD YOUR SEED PHRASE ONLINE
1. first and foremost do not listen to anyone on DM 2. Trust wallet supports bitcoin 3. Always search first on google before asking here since there are many scammers here so you have to know your basics first so that you can know they are scamming you. 4. NEVER SHARE YOUR SEED PHRASE NEVER
Keep the SEED stored away from your hardware wallet and tell no one where the hidden copies are located, there are metal sheets on
