You are getting a lot of misleading information. The way you would safely store Bitcoin is just natively. You generate a new Bitcoin address OFFLINE (from a safe method, obviously) and send your Bitcoin there. Then you can look at your wallet every day just using the public address or a Wallet tracking app. While the private key (to access your Bitcoin) never would even touch the internet. What you were using was a HOT WALLET. And also a hardware wallet that people for some reason keep suggesting since a few year is a MIDDLE MAN.

My advice about airdrops when using hardware wallets: Don't get greedy, too many people offering something for nothing Don't chase airdrop messages from people dropping coins into your wallet Research validity of any airdrop relating to your coins, look for credible promoters Beware of malicious hardware wallet signing that can drain your wallet Have a COLD wallet for anything not staked Have a HOT wallet for staked coins (trusted sites only) Have a test wallet with zero funds if you are risking connecting to an unknown airdrop Be very careful, STOP, THINK, RESEARCH, and always be vigilant of airdrop advertisements.

Yup, I agree… this is why I personally tunned out from “simply bitcoin” channel. They turned into priced obsessed moon boys, like a different flavor of the trader bros mindset. I can shill you $HOT which is currently an ERC20 token but will be swapped for Holo which will be the currency of Holochain ecosystem. So check Holochain and see if you think it's solid or if you want to gamble. All early projects are either a gamble or an educated guess provided you can do your own checks and have a technical understanding

Jesus fix that writing pattern first, that's not the royal county club. Here's some basic advice 1. This subreddit and any specific coin subreddit are echo chambers. Don't trust, verify. Always. 2. Begin with understanding Bitcoin. The following classification is up to debate, but to me and many others there's Bitcoin, other safer coins (blue chips such as Ethereum), promising projects and everything else. In the last 2 categories you can find all other cryptocurrencies depending who you ask. Scams are around the corner. They go from obvious (check the $SQUID saga) to well hidden (see the FTX saga). (Yes I'm saying FTX was wall hidden because save for a few folks who called it, with reason in hindsight, it was a black swan nobody saw coming). 3. Stick to well renowned CEX (centralized exchanges such as Binance, Coinbase, Kraken, CDC) for trading. Actually don't even trade if you don't have experience in trading. Stay away from leverage and any other trading tools. Same for DEX (decentralized exchanges where you can find obscure coins that fall in the "other cryptocurrencies" category. If you've got a good chunk of any coin do not leave it on any exchange and transfer to a cold wallet. Learn the difference between custodial vs non-custodial services (who really owns and controls the assets) and practice good operational security. 4. Once you picked up one or more projects whose cryptos you find worth keeping, decide what you want to do with it. That depends upon your view of the single asset and opinions greatly differs. Some people treat Bitcoin as a risk and trading asset others as a store of value. The first ones use it for regular trading the second ones have been holding it since before the last (or even previous) bull runs and sell it only if needed. There's also the vast category of holders who own it waiting for it to multiply by a certain amount their initial buying. Some other folks will do the same but with other cryptos. To give you a concrete example, I have BTC waiting to sell none, some or all of it when reaches a certain value depending whether or not my secondary asset ($HOT which I classify as a "promising project") will reach a certain value. Establish a strategy. This market is volatile and prone to heavy manipulation by people with greater resources and information than you. Practice basic investment tactics such as don't invest more than you can afford to lose, decide I'm advance what to do if price tanks or skyrockets. Doing your due diligence on the cryptocurrency you're buying and the project behind it helps you decide what to do in times of fear and greed. 5. Understand that markets work in cycles. There is no "to the moon" there is no "to the floor". During bull markets the fiat value of your coins raises during bear markets it falls. So far BTC leads the way and other coins follows. They also raise or fall exponentially (for example, BTC raises 4%, some coins can raise 20%. Same the other way around). 6. Do not ever answer private messages or chat requests here. Most likely scams.

I don't mention BTC as it should be know that this is the first crypto asset you may want to have. So I won't consider it for this answer. I name HOT, although this is post blockchain. Right now HOT is an ERC20 token without a use case (as it is, right now). HOT will be exchanged 1:1 for Holofuel which is the native currency of Holochain which aims at decentralizing storage and access to web content without the need of a Blockchain. HOT is yet to be listed on US exchanges and hopefully soon a stable beta will be out after the initial beta of November last year. Holofuel will be used as a currency to buy and sell hosting space and also as a way for those who do not participate in the ecosystem to access its content (sorry for the oversimplification). Up until now though HOT is to be considered pure gambling even if the development is progressing, an initial beta is out, devices have been manufactured and running, etc. for the simple reason that there is no finished product yet. This is why I say it's gambling, it's a bet. If you're wondering why creating an ERC20 token at the beginning, it was to raise funds for the project in the ICO.

Unpopular opinion: HOT I believe in the project which basically aims at decentralizing web content. If stars align it may become to begin operational with the bull run (I believe it will be late 2024/early 2025 until late 2025/early 2026. HOT is a sub cent token and not listed on any US exchange: during the 2021 run I remember reading on r/holochain it was to prevent the token to be treated as security as there is no finished product where it could be used (early HOT were minted to raise money for the ICO but all tokens will be swapped to HOLO which will also be generated by the ecosystem's devices). Wish I could explain it in more technical terms. But the bottom line is: - cheap as fuk - project's aim is ambitious, development is active and development targets are met - not on any US exchange - has utility (no right now has none if you're asking because the beta is still not over yet)

OK, so people need to know this because I think general consensus in the community is that cold storage is safer. I think that is correct to an extent because Ledger or airgapped storage won't receive a malware or virus whereas your metamask could be hacked if your browser is compromised which leaves the only risk involved is what's in the smart contract which applies to both HOT & COLD wallets. The people needs to know which part of the smart contract they need to check. If you are trying to teach your grandma to read codes...well good luck to you.
