So here's the thing. Speculation actively hurts the viability of any cryptocurrency. The more valuable a coin, the less people spend it. The less people spend it, the less circulation. The less circulation, the less use case. The less use case... the less value. The only legitimate use case of a cryptocurrency that it has over first currency is essentially the ability to have the anonymity of fiat in the digital realm. Now that the venture capital has moved on to AI, there only one way to make crypto relevant again, and that's by actually building an ecosystem where the coins are *spent* for good and services. But in order to grow that ecosystem, you need new users. And if you want new users, then YOU CAN'T LET SPECULATION RAISE THE PRICE TOO HIGH, or you raise barriers to entry and actively encourage others who got in on the ground floor to cash out and leave the rest of you sorry fuckers(pardon the french) holding the bag. Inflation, as much as those who already got theirs hate to admit it, is a vital feature to keeping a currency relevant. If speculation isn't abandoned, then cryptocurrency as a whole, will be.

BlockOne created the EOS blockchain and raised $4B in the largest ICO of all time. It went downhill from there. Shortly after promising to invest $1B in EOS development, BlockOne stopped investing in the project and essentially walked away with the money. They did however purchase 144,000 BTC with it. The SEC got involved, fined them $24m and LET THEM KEEP the money. This eventually lead to B1 changing its name to Bullish and going IPO to launder the stolen EOS treasury. There is much, much more to this story. They essentially walked off with the EOS treasury and turned iit into a $7B public company. This is likely the most successful financial crime ever committed and no one was held accountable. OP please look into this. I'm leaving out tons of stuff. It would make a great book

most optimistic would be plus-minus 5k fiat. if you've never been in bitcoin, this is what it can feel like: *<- puts on SAW mask and voice. AHEM...* LET'S PLAY A GAME: you will be tempted to take it out everytime it dips 20%. you will wan't to unload family members when it goes down 60%. the only way to fix this problem is this bottle of pills on this table. everytime you take a pill, the anxiety will go away, but it will dip another 30%. If you fall asleep it may fall antother 20%. these other pills can keep you awake and gain 5% a day. go back one line. gnawing your ankles off will do nothing. Enjoy after 20 years.

This is solid advice, regardless of what you're investing in. The point is buy it, put it aside, don't even worry about it until you are staring down the barrel of retirement. Very, very, very, very few of us are ever going to become overnight millionaires (if any at all) and, imagining yourself in one of those dream scenarios will only lead you down a path of throwing away more money on hot garbage "investments" and then impatiently selling them when you don't make 5000% in a year. I somehow managed to make a modest (very modest) profit between 2021 and now, and I'm happy with that. Lost a lot by not letting investments just sit, but instead chasing loser coins that claimed "buy coin, then Lambo!". Still luckily in the black, but not by much. I got real with myself and shifted everything out of high-risk assets into long-term, stable stuff and just going to let it marinate while I work until retirement, coincidentally as an engineer too, lol! I'm in my 40's now and very fortunate to have a stable income. But, I tell every one of my nephews "buy safe investments and LET THEM SIT for 40 years!' Nothing is going to predictably be more profitable than time.

Self custody is not that hard. When people lose their keys it's usually because they didn't take the responsibility of self custody seriously enough, not because they're stupid - and if you don't take self custody seriously enough then bitcoin isn't for you. The advice for people that don't take self custody seriously shouldn't be to "take this revolutionary new way to regain sovereign control over your own wealth & jam it back into the legacy way of trusting institutions & taking on counterparty risk". It should be to "either get your shit together & learn self custody or sell your bitcoin & buy S&P 500".
