In my local scenes p2p OTC trading, USDT almost always goes through as TRC20. And I believe it's the same pretty much everywhere an OTC market exists. It's just easier for most people to pick TRC20 than to coordinate a common L2 on ETH. I don't own any TRX, but ironically it's probably the chain where I have done the most. ETH and BTC are being adopted at wall street but TRX has been widely adopted by individuals already.

Wasn't the point of Tron that it's cheaper and faster than Ethereum? Because maybe it can be cheaper, but it's really not that viable long-term. It's too centralized and hasn't improved much for some time. I guess you can still make some money with it because of how TRX energy works. Like if you're doing TRC-20 transactions, some sites let you buy TRX energy to get lower transaction fees. So if you do it often and in high enough volumes, these savings will add up. But that's about it.

The initial point of Tron is that it was created as a cheaper and more efficient alternative to Ethereum. But in reality, it's probably not viable long-term (it's too centralized and hasn't improved much for some time now). But you can still make some profit with it bc of how TRX energy works. Yeah, unfortunately Binance US has a flat withdrawal fee for USDT on ERC-20 and it’s way higher than the actual gas costs. They don’t adjust it dynamically like Coinbase does. It’s frustrating, but it’s basically how they make money off withdrawals. There used to be a deposit address that would then send back TRC20 Tron to the same wallet address on Tron. So its not that its a scam, its just that I think they shut down the conversion. Open your seed phrase on a Tron wallet and the address should be the same as your Ethereum wallet address and see if the Tron got converted. If not its either a fake address or they shut down the conversion. Check the main Tron website, it had info on the convesion but im pretty sure they shut down the conversion permanently. You can try reaching out to Binance US or KuCoin but Im not sure if it will help.

This is actually what I do. I work alongside a Law Firm in Switzerland, who has a small handful of clients onboard that own wallets with 100k BitCoin each. We have one that has a wallet with over 250k BitCoin. We have a minimum purchase quantity of 1'000BTC but can do a few hundred thousand. However it is definitely not a chain were a lot Dapps are used and I've never seen a shop that accepts a TRC20 token for paying for goods or services. If you look at defillama you can see all the Defi TVL is in: JustLend, JustStables and Sun swap, so it's just Justin Sun parking his money. It's very suspicious to me that while the chain is the second in traffic even JustLend which holds the most TVL only makes $888 profit today in fees (source defillama.com) TronLink also has only 500k downloads in the chrome store, while metamask has 16 million. Even Keplr wallet has 1 million downloads, but the cosmos ecosiytem seems much smaller. The numbers just don't check out for tron to be the number 2 chain, unless there are a lot of bots transferring USDT to each other to boost the numbers. It could be also arbitrage traders transferring between Cexes because it's free, but those are also bots.

Not the cheapest way but probably the fastest especially if you want to use a credit card. Install Telegram, open their wallet (open from the left dropdown under your profile), buy USDT/BTC directly from your Telegram wallet by selecting add crypto, then buy crypto, select USDT/BTC, then select the currency you want to use, make your purchase, and then you can send it to your recipient. Double check you're both on or using the same network. Telegram uses TRC20/Tron or its native TON network for USDT for example.
