Charlie Lee dumped the top all over retail and it never recovered. I think you semi answered your own question. USDT came along and then USDC. If you’re doing payments or settlements for either Corporate or Retail, it just makes more sense cutting out the volatility. Especially USDT on TRC20 which is cheap to move millions, if required. Hello, I'm sorry I'm new in the crypto market. I need some help getting money from PayPal to a crypto exchange - Bing X. I've tried the most straightforward way - withdraw funds from PayPal to my bank account and buy USDT via Bank Deposit on Bing X. I can (and do) pay for gift cards with USDT or USDC but I'm doing it via third-party service like www.fixedfloat.com. I send them Monero and they send USDT to www.bitrefill.com. I'm not disclosing my information and nobody knows how much crypto do I hold if any. It cost me 0.5% plus negligible XMR fee.

Yeah, but all of mentioned tokens are the regular tokens which have price fluctuations. For example I could convert funds to Matic and by the time I transfer it to Binance and convert Matic back to USDT, the price could change (buy high sell low). USDT on the other hand is always the same when using TRC20.

You’re going to bridge on Metamask though, Metamask is just the wallet you’re going to send your ERC20 USDT to from Coinbase. You’ll connect the Metamask to the actual site where you’ll do the bridging. There are a bunch of different sites available to bridge on. Definitely don’t rush it if it’s not all coming together right away! I’d keep checking some vids on tutorials/tips for ERC20 to TRC20 though. Sorry I can’t help the last bit! Best of luck!

No problem! So, MetaMask IS the wallet, it can be used on desktop or mobile and any country (I’m also Canadian and use it). You’ll want to send the ERC20 USDT to your MetaMask (wallet) connect your MetaMask to the site that will do the bridge (find in tutorial) and then you’ll have the TRC20 USDT. Also, make sure you write down the seed phrase that MetaMask gives you in case you want to use this wallet for more than this 1 transaction in the future. On paper, not in your phone! Not sure how much you’ve learned about security yet, but never store your seed phrases or passwords anywhere that connects to the internet.

No worries! You're correct, there are places that can turn ERC20 tokens to their TRC20 which is called bridging. Gas fees have been very low lately so it might not cost you too much. I'd recommend checking a couple YouTube videos on bridging ERC20 to TRC20 and from there you can send to the app you're attempting to get it to. There are many places to bridge, just follow a recommendation from a tutorial. You might have to send the ERC20 version to MetaMask (if you have one?) as you'll need a wallet that supports ERC20 to connect to bridge. From there it'll be the fee to bridge and then the tiny fee to send the TRC20 to your destination. With GWEI currently at 9 which is ridiculously low, I feel like you should be able to do all of this for a few dollars. I see in the OP you said you're new, so it might be a bit daunting, but think of it as gaining some experience in this space at the same time. Just take it slow and follow a tutorial, but it definitely won't cost anywhere near the $50 you said you're down already. Good luck!

My apologies I should have clarified my goal with the USDT. The wallet I am trying to send it to is for an app that only accepts TRC20. I had no intention of holding. So now I need to figure out 2 things, Step 1: Find out what to do with the USDT I got with ERC20(would it be possible to find a wallet that would support ERC20 to TRC20 or would I end up losing even more in fees) Step 2: Find a wallet in Canada that supports sending and receiving USDT on a TRC20 network so I can send that $500 USDT that I initially wanted to send to the app.

I did not know the wallet only accepted TRC20 so I thought buying $500 USDT on coinbase would get me there but my dumbass didn't know that coinbase only supports sending and receiving USDT via eth on a ERC20 network. I guess the real question is, why are you sending to a wallet that only accepts TRC20 network? Are you sending it there for safekeeping, or to use to trade into something else? If the wallet your referring to is at another exchange, you can change it to something cheap to send like XRP, XLM, DOGE, etc to send to the other exchange, assuming you want to buy something that exchange sells? If it’s just a wallet, I’d find a wallet that doesn’t only support TRC20. Bridging is always an option, but that will soak up more in fees unfortunately.

You're literally talking about P2P transfers. You can already do these with many networks (BTC<>XMR<>BCH), using stablecoins for "essentially free" would require a modified version of Tron's TRC-20 token, that charges 1 USDT per transfer. It's not totally unfeasible to create a new network token for EUR transfers on a similar mechanism.

So normally, you first have to find a legit bridge. A bridge is where you can swap an asset under network A (USDT on TRC20) to the same asset under network B (USDT on ERC20). You will have to connect your wallet to the bridge, so make sure that the bridge is legit. Then you will need to pay gas fees for the swap. The fee would ofc depend on the network (TRC20). I have nothing good to say about Tron. The only benefit is TRC-20 tokens sending USDT, has insanely low fees. If that isn't an option, XLM usually always is an option.

I use international exchanges and do my trades on there, you'll still pay fees, but they are often so small you won't even notice them! Never move the essentials before converting them because they have nasty withdrawl fees. Convert everything to USDT, use Tron TRC-20, pay $1 in fees.

That’s not how TRON works, you need to do your DD first. Active users and exchanges stake TRX to earn Energy / Bandwidth which allow you to submit for free up to a certain number transactions per day. The chain can basically be cost free for simple TRC20 transfer as long as you lock some amount of the native token.

Tron's trump card is native USDT coupled with the low gas fees. If you send it from a non-custodial wallet the gas fees are less than a dollar, and most CEX charges $1 in withdrawal fees for TRC20 USDT. Sure, there are cheaper alternatives now including L2 such as Polygon and Arbitrum. But Tron had a massive headstart and it's huge in Asian countries who picked it up due to the lower fees compared to Ethereum. It's true that China has banned crypto but the still massive grey market transacts mainly in TRC20 USDT.

Justin Sun just did it much more blatantly but I kind of excused it because of the language barrier at the time. And to be honest, I held it until very recently. I just got tired of the endless drama surrounding it. But it was one of my better performing coins from back in 2018. Held up really well and the staking rewards were always good. All the various connected website UI's were always excellent and some of the best experiences I've had in crypto. Very low fees and super fast too. I still always use TRC20 for USDT payments. I just don't hold TRX anymore. Justin Sun's style is just too much of a dealbreaker for many Westeners, and I get it. I kind of saw past it because I liked the coin, but in the end even for me it was too much.

Because you have a very narrow view on the system, as a non-user. I move tens of thousands of USDT every day across different trading venues and exchanges almost for free on TRON. TRC20 is pretty much the standard / most popular network for stables but most normies don’t even know about it. Couldn’t care less about adoption from my perspective. Once again as a non user, if you’re here just to buy and hold a bunch of coins, try to avoid useless on-chain swaps and stick to a CEX.
