But today you are considered to transfer your crypto funds to bank as it is a custody of your crypto. My facts are not wrong or far from correct. Proof of reserves IS a type of audit. It is an audit of the cryptographic reserves. A 10-k on the otherhand is NOT a type of audit, it is a SELF REPORTING DOCUMENT that is based on 100% good faith and fear of the law. Do you know how many publicly traded companies that filled out 10-k forms were lying in the past? I'll wait here while you read about it. The truth is, Coinbase has never undergone any real audit proving the things they self report. Furthermore, they attacked the Bitcoin core development project in 2017. There is literally no justification for you to defend them. You should be defending companies that undergo THIRD PARTY VERIFICATION that they have customer funds, like Kraken.

Which is a very fair point. I also think it’ll have big macro effects long term and I didn’t mean to come across aggressive But part of the very revolution of bitcoin IS SELF CUSTODY! It’s sad that the school counselors won’t actually tell these young people their options. Skilled tradespeople make a good living and EVEN MORE IF THEY BECOME SELF EMPLOYED AND OWN A SMALL BUSINESS. The problem with most college degrees is that it mostly sets people up for BECOMING AN EMPLOYEE RATHER THAN AN EMPLOYER. A majority of college degrees pay the same as a skilled laborer/tradesperson. About $60,000… but they have student loan debt burdens that the trades don’t have. It’s embarrassing that a veterinarian, pharmacist etc with $200,000 student loan debt makes THE SAME AS A WALMART TRUCKER… the university education system is set up to turn people into indebted wagies. Our technology should be making education CHEAPER NOT MORE EXPENSIVE! I greatly value education too but this system has nothing to do with true education and everything to do with creating a system of false limitations based on having a PIECE OF PAPER when the knowledge is practically free in a library or internet streaming open courseware like MIT, YALE, Harvard X etc. I play opencorseware FOR MY OWN PERSONAL GRATIFICATION and you can literally do an entire degree level course for free… but you can’t get the degree because you didn’t jump though the hopes and pay the fees. If our society actually values education and not wanting debt slaves, they would have opened up MUCH MUCH MORE OPTIONS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE. My cousin and his wife and baby had to sleep in his parents basement due to their student loans debts. He has a degree in engineering but I guess he couldn’t find a job and his wife has some “liberal arts” type background… they lives in the basement during the holidays while he lectured me about how great the federal reserve is.

It was NEVER SUSTAINABLE to back your currency with debt… name one example of a government that did this was able to sustain itself for multiple generations without taking a hit to the quality of life of their citizens etc? People think that Japan is doing “well” even though their debt to GDP is about 200+% but they don’t even look on 2 LOST GENERATIONS, the fact that more and more young Japanese people can’t afford to start a family, become financially independent away from their aging parents etc. Japan is literally EATING IT SELF ALIVE… they have abondoned schools, people living in Internet cafes etc… that’s not a triving society. America will resemble Japan in another Generation at most… in some ways we are WORSE. The massive drug epidemic, the number of educated debt slaves living paycheck to paycheck who can’t even have the same quality of life compared to their less educated grand parents etc. Fiat based debt monetary systems is parasitic by design and the people will become no better than cattle and sheep.

Use Bitcoin only exchanges. Check which ones operate where you live. Folks mentioned Swan, River, Strike which are in US. Whatever you do, DO SELF CUSTODY. Even if you have to buy on a crypto exchange, do yourself a favor and withdraw immediately to cold storage. That will keep you protected.

Sadly, you're right. It's the reason people fall for grifters and scammers. Most people say they want to be in control, but then they give up control because they're afraid of being responsible for their own actions. PLEASE LEARN SELF CUSTODY. It's so good to be safe. Choose a hardware wallet that is open source (not Ledger! Eff Ledger and their seed extraction firmware!). Let the wallet create a random seed phrase for you. Write it down on paper. Get something like a Cryptosteel for metal backup. Safety first. Safety always. P.S. To the OP: I hope you manage to rebuild. Best of luck to you, and thank you for sharing your story honestly. Hopefully you managed to help others stay safe. Even if only one person decides to self custody after reading your post, you'll have made a difference.

Noun-to-noun derivation exists. Ever heard of a magicIAN, i.e. "someone who practices magic (noun)"? Well, a custodIAN is someone in charge of custody (and it's a word you can find in any dictionary, by the way). SELF-custodian might not be registered as a word yet, but it is perfectly formed and understandable as meaning "someone who is their own custodian", that is "someone who is in charge of their own custody".
