Been following this. Looks like bad trading day after bad day. Even when there’s seemingly good news. USAR is up 30% today and CODI still down. Any new insights?

GME because the options print money. CODI because the trouble they are in isn't going to be bad enough to keep them under $10. SSRM because we're going to have massive instability till 2028 at least. Even if we're topped out now, current gold/silver prices should be enough to almost double their earnings plus they should have two more major projects producing within the next year and a half.

Thoughts on CODI after this week’s activity?

I've seen this play on Twitter. Would feel comfortable getting in on it if someone who actually knows about rare earths can confirm that Arnold is a legit player in the space that is actually able to take advantage of the China situation and scoop up market share. With revenue of $0.25B they are a total non-entity in this space right now so you really have to believe that they know how to scale extremely quickly to take advantage of the geopolitical situation. The CODI leadership just looks like random people who run businesses in completely unrelated areas (sterno, 5.11, feminine wipes) so they seem out of their depth to suddenly dominate the huge rare earth space. That said, they have to just be mildly successful for the stock to 3-10x.

CODI down 60% yesterday because of accounting issues at one of their subsidiaries. That sub doesn't make to nearly 60% of CODI's value though. Lawsuits incoming, but maybe still a good buy.

They were losing money for several reasons. They were spending heavily for R&D on software which is something that historically was NOT done by companies in this business. It was done with the expectation that they would be able to consolidate a larger number of companies. The original SPAC plan included a merger/acquisition of the Whizz and Advanced Circuits. They spent a lot of money and time trying to close on those transactions but valuation and market conditions obviously prevented that from happening. Advance Circuits was ultimately sold by CODI to a different buyer at a substantially lower valuation. I'm not convinced the company has the cash to survive and prosper but it certainly is helping solve some very real problems. I believe the "land and expand" approach will work because it should be a much better service for customers vs the alternatives.

CODI has a P/E of 18,550 so that's the most overvalued stock listed on the NYSE. CRM has the highest P/E of the S&P-500 companies with a ratio of 887.

$ACEV 8-K > On July 28, 2022, Compass Diversified Holdings (NYSE: CODI), the parent company of Compass, and Compass delivered notice of termination of the Compass Merger Agreement to Tempo. ACE, Tempo Automation and Whizz are continuing to pursue a potential business combination involving ACE, Tempo Automation and Whizz, and expect to consummate such business combination in the third quarter of 2022. Tempo was originally supposed to purchase Compass and Whizz in their merger with ACEV and now it looks like only Whizz. I'm hoping this may end up being a good thing as now no money will need to be spent acquiring Compass. OR it may not. With all the semiconductor news lately Compass may think it's better on its own.

Business Development Companies, of which a number are traded on the principal exchanges, are basically provide loans and sometimes equity participation to small and medium companies. Many of them pay very high dividends, but they are risky in that if they extend loans to businesses that fail, they lose that amount. There are also private equity firms that use equity, merger arbitration, and other techniques to do the same thing. I have done very well over the years with CODI.

It's mostly accurate. Here is the actual [judgment](https://www.leagle.com/decision/inbco20180313534). I actually didn't know about that because I bailed on the day of the order (Nov. '17), since I was facing down a $100,000 tax bill. Nevertheless, your contention that: >there's no scenario under which investors holding a publicly traded LLP can lose more money than what they've put in is absolutely incorrect. From the cited judgment (Discussion, Part B, 1): "If the Court confirms a chapter 11 plan that results in the cancellation of debt, the U. S. tax laws may require Breitburn's common unitholders to incur CODI that exceeds the value of their principal investment at the time they purchased their partnership units. See 26 U.S.C. § 108(d)(6)." Further: "Still, there are no guarantees that the IRS will not disallow the loss based on the related party loss disallowance provisions under the Internal Revenue Code. " Further: "I find that the Debtors have addressed and attempted to resolve the CODI issue in good faith. Although there may be other methods of addressing the issue that will provide a greater degree of certainty to Equity, such as the outright sale of the assets to an unrelated third party, the Equity Committee has not cited any authority requiring the Debtors to adopt the alternative that is the least risky to Equity. The Debtors and the other stakeholders structured the transactions as a taxable sale for the purpose of generating taxable losses to offset CODI, and the approach, typical in chapter 11 cases, is reasonable under the circumstances. I guess they got out alive after all. I got out for a penny more than them, though.

Scroll down to the partnership section. CODI for partnerships is absolutely a real thing. Here[Here](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20171128006378/en/Breitburn-Energy-Partners-LP-Reaches-Agreement-Principle). Last bullet point. They tried to mitigate the CODI, but the judge didn't care about anyone who had bought after it was on the pink slips.

Yep, for dividend stocks, I do that with PG, KHC, PFE, UWMC, CODI, VTRS. Div + CC, double-dipping.

I had the same situation here last Friday (CODI) and it was ITM, not by a whole lot, I got 0.30 when I sold the call, and I did not want to trigger long term capital gain; so it was better for me to buy it back 0.10 and pay short cap gain on .20 Plus CODI is not that liquid/bid/ask as far as rolling it. I like the stock and the div % think I'll just hold this one and not sell CCs on it.

Well some ones I am rotating my cash equivalent funds into would be covered call/put etf's, I personally really like BME during a bear market for reinvestment, just getting into fair value/undervalued stocks with good fundamentals like $REYN, $LMT, $CODI are good picks imo

Im sorry for my petty comments as well, redditors are nerds especially in stock forums posting like I did thinking what I said is fact and wording it as factual, sorry about that and thanks for sharing that! I agree, Predicting the market is impossible, essentially gambling when people like me try to, but individually I prefer to be safer than sorry so I have rotated into stocks like $LMT, $CODI, $ABT, $REYN and some of blackrocks dividend covered call/put funds, sorry again and thank you!

I have a significant position in AEP, great infrastructure play. Check out IEP, APAM, CODI, KMI and MPLX for solid divvies, OIH for an inflation play. As always, MO to the moon.

The rule applies to Any stock with an annual dividend yield. For specific example, I bought 40 shares of Compass diversified or CODI in 2012. I haven’t touch the stock, sold or added any positions. I now have 82 shares, solely due to dividend reinvestment. Codi had a dividend yield of approximately 8-9 percent over that time. So 72/8(annual div yield that you reinvest) = 9 years So from 5/30/2012 to 2/15/2021 (a little under 9 years exactly) My initial 40 shares has grown to 82. Does that make sense?
