I was going to say something about JNUG and JDST. I look back at how I actively traded that but was too risk averse to just all in AMD and forget about it. Somewhat recently (maybe before the apes still) there was a guy spreading the gospel about the cyclical uranium bull market. Turns out he was right too.

My biggest hits include AMD, NVDA, SHOP, and TGT. Biggest lesson learned this year? Hmm. It'd probably be something along the lines of "money isn't everything blah blah blah". I got laid off in October where I was and had been making a lot of money for my age. Thankfully I had a side project on the side that was making a little bit of income and I saved a whole lot while I was working at a job that was not letting me be as happy as I could be. But, I'm very thankful that I had parents that raised me to be responsible enough financially to be able to handle a life event like this and by taking my side project full time, I wake up happy and excited to work. Wallstreetbets was my origin of finance, it's when I decided to take it more seriously despite not knowing what I was getting my self into LOL. Shoutout to the MU 90's, the JNUG traders, and the ones that kept FD's a secret. Cheers to 2024, stay safe everyone, and have a merry Christmas.

We've all been there, man (woman?). My first year of "investing" in 2016, I discovered 3x leveraged ETFS and pissed away 40k on JNUG and DUST. Literally turned my cash to dust. Then from 2017 to 2020, played it safe with boring index fund ETFs which gave me boring gains, then COVID happened. Up down up down up down down down down playing TSLA when it was pushing 1200, lost another 30k, and tried to "make it all back" playing AMD during the Xilinx acquisition crap. Lost another 15k. Mind you, this was all on margin. After paying 85k in tuition to Mr. Market, I think I finally learned my lesson... Now I limit myself to a 5k cash account to feed my regarded gambling addiction, and it's been working well. Anytime the account is over 5k, I transfer to my registered accounts and buy boring crap. You'll recover, my friend. You still have a roof over your head, your able to eat, and you still have a job. I just hope you learned your lesson.

I was in this thread 7 years ago when NVDA was just one of many WSB meme stocks. Shit like JNUG was literally more popular back then. If the market crashes gold will too. It will recover quicker than the market, but will plummet just like stocks. Look at what happened to JNUG and GDX in 2020. Banks use gold as leverage and will sell it to cover bad bets. It is also heavily used in industry and as demand plummets it will too. How it could be “different” this time is if you start to see a weakening dollar as the market is dropping. I don’t see that happening though, barring some black swan external event.
I fat fingered a trade and bought 10000 calls on JNUG (old 3x Junior gold miner etf) instead of the 1000 I wanted. Market rallied hard the next day and gold plummeted, the etf probably lost around 20% and the options were essentially worthless.
DUST / JNUG imply it’s a trap.
Too many to count over the years. It started on vanguard. My first one’s free was 30% gain for +$3000 in DDD in 2014. Then I lost $20,000 on SFXE in bankruptcy. That blew my vanguard account. Switched to robinhood, started trading biotech as I was a bio major and keeping up with latest news and patents. Kept losing there so I switched to 3x ETF’s (DWTI,UWTI,JNUG,JDST, etc) lost there so switched to speculative plays. The big spikes were from shipping week 2016 with DRYS and TOPS, but I wasn’t super actively trading at that point and as fast as the gains came they went. Then I discovered options and made a series of bad moves and blew the entire account. Then I switched to crypto, bought a variety of stuff near the top in 2021 and have been averaging down ever since currently still holding XYO with 100% of my networth. A true regard never learns, but I still want lambos or food stamps.

JNUG was the first time I played stonks. You regarded fucks filled my head with inverse this and triple witching that. But it was a valuable lesson. I learned what leveraged ETFs are and how badly they can fuck me. Took another 300 days to quit playing ETFs altogether
Apart from JNUG there was JDST too. And then there was DRYS which is unfortunately no longer a stock.
