TWCGX (American Century Growth Fund Investor Class) did not "tank" today. As of December 15, 2025, its 1-day return was -0.57%, and on December 12, 2025, it was down around -1.76%. A $62,000 loss on 6,000 shares means a drop of over $10 per share, which is roughly 15% of its recent price. The reported daily moves are nowhere near that. Check your data source or the specific date you're looking at. The fund is heavily weighted in big tech like Microsoft, Nvidia, and Apple, but even with those holdings, a 15% single-day drop is highly unusual outside of extreme market events, which did not occur.

Fund Composition: TWCGX is a large-cap growth fund with over 54% allocated to Technology, including top holdings like Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Apple. However, its portfolio comprises around 83 individual holdings. Specific Stock Performance: While some of your mentioned "big tech" may have been up, others within the fund's broader technology or consumer cyclical (12.26%) and communication (14.18%) allocations could have significantly underperformed, dragging down the overall fund. Daily Volatility & Timing: Mutual fund Net Asset Value (NAV) is typically calculated at market close. Individual stock performance you observed might be intraday or from a different timing perspective. For instance, TWCGX showed a -0.57% 1-day return recently, and -1.76% as of Dec 12, 2025. Growth Stock Sentiment: Concerns like the "AI bubble" can lead to broader shifts away from growth-oriented funds, even if underlying large-cap tech companies remain strong. Diversification within a fund means its performance won't perfectly mirror a few individual top stocks.

Look into broad index funds. Something like VTI or VT. Less risk with those. I can't say if right now is the best time to sell or convert but that's what I would do at some point. Vtsax has increased 342% in the last 20 years. TWCGX has taken 37 years to reach that growth.

Hey. I wonder what any case is that the expense ratio could be better between 2 funds, but the yield is worse. In any case VTI (the ETF I'm looking at) is far better than TWCGX (the growth fund I have). That seems to be the historical suggestion across this site at least. I'm also planning on having an international fund as well as an aggressive fund like QQQ, so it'd just be nicer to have more visibility on everything in one place and know the overlap.

I have a friend who has $1.1M in TWCGX. It's an American Century growth mutual fund. It has high performance but two major downsides. It has a 0.92% expense ratio. It also has had some turnover where my friend got hit with $40-60k in long term cap gains. She wants to get out of the holding and switch to something like VUG, the Vanguard Growth Fund which has a really low expense ratio and low turnover. What is the smartest strategy for her to avoid a big taxable event but also exit her American Century holdings? Any ideas?
