How do you know Monero is actually private?

After seeing the ANOM stuff, I'm going to be extremely skeptical of this especially if it's not open source. Too many features that haven't withstood the test of time for my taste. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/ANOM

XMR is open source. ANOM was proprietary.
Check out a post I made about it. Exactly. Nor was it an app. It was a piece of hardware. It's a very interesting story if for no other reason than the illustration of the cavalier confidence (or ignorance) of amateur mafias. We know from inference that professional mafias were not affected by ANOM. OP, you propose a fun thought, but ANOM was a Honeypot, and Monero is not.

Not what happened with ANOM though is it? They gathered a ton of evidence then cracked down on huge operations when they had who/what they wanted. They went for the long game. Maybe XMR is the super, insane long game

Tricking Snowden into using it could be like when they tricked Abakan Ayik into using ANOM. Could be the perfect catalyst to convince people to use it!
Assuming ANOM is the encrypted chat app sting they were running, they could for sure do something similar again and also crypto related. But I think Monero is to old to be a candidate for a honeypot/sting operation
I am in Scotland if that explains it. On a serious note, do you think the ANOM app was a one off, or do you think the FBI/whoever will explore doing the same again via crypto?

Ok so what if they have the details of the hackers and are waiting for more to do a mass arrest, similar to the ANOM operation? They didn’t arrest the first big drug deal there, they gathered evidence against the people and then arrested them all at once
