You can keep the phone eternally offline by using either Electrum or BlueWallet. Here's my copypasta for that, just substitute "offline Laptop" for your smartphone. Note: Install Electrum ONLY from https://electrum.ORG or, if you use F-Droid or Google Play Store, make doubly sure it's the correct publisher for Electrum. Getting people to install counterfeit Electrum-malware is a very common attack against Bitcoin users. Anyway, here's the copypasta. Watch the videos to get an idea how an eternally offline computer would sign transactions: You can either buy an off-the-shelf, cheap laptop or use your existing hardware to achieve cold storage. Download Tails (https://tails.boum.org/) and run it from a DVD or USB-drive. Refrain from connecting to any network. Create an Electrum wallet. Make two seed backups (paper, metal, brain,...), because Tails is an amnesiac system, meaning it will forget all settings, including your seed, upon reboot. The main Bitcoin Node implementation is available on BitcoinCore dot ORG. You can confirm this site by going to the Bitcoin dot ORG. (not dot com!). You download the exe (or binary for other system) and run it, that's it! Before running it is wise to at least write down the checksum of the file you just downloaded (same goes for all software to be honest). You also CAN check the digital signature on the download. Once program is running 1) go to options and set option prune - unless you want Bitcoin to use up to 450 GB (and growing) disk space. 2) make a backup! copy backup to several USBs or DVDs. 3) add it to auto-start that's it.
