I'm somewhat new to crypto and am just getting my redundancy/security method in place. I've taken an old cell phone and downloaded an archiving app. Then I disconnected from internet (told it to forget connection). So I am saving crypto to a paper wallet that gets hidden. I take a pic of the paper wallet and save an encrypted/PW protected copy to offline cellphone. I saved a second encrypted/pw protected copy to SD card on phone. I keep the paper hidden. I keep the cellphone in a safe. I keep the SD card in glove box of car (in case house fire).

I just discovered my portfolio has vanished! I remember Blockfolio became FTX, and I could still see my Crypto. One day it asked me to log out, and I hesitated only to be logged out by them! I tried to sign in but it wouldn’t recognize my PW. I emailed their support, but no response besides the initial automated one! I’ve asked to reset PW, but no matter what I enter based on their recommendation, I get “invalid code, tap for input!” This is beyond BS!

Which air quality sensors? Sure hope PW network can handle the bandwidth of a large-scale deployment. I'm skeptical only because of how the recent deployment of type 3 and 4 sensors seem to have caused issues with payment processing which seems to not have been resolved yet...

Dang this is some really talk. Stay strong friend! I always wondered this as well, since my family knows I have crypto and have access to my wallets in the just in case moment. But how do they get through the Google authentication for my crypto on an exchange? Would they need my Google user name and PW?

Trading 4 dumbs: Buy any mainstream crypto around the BTC halving, then don't f*cking touch it until you're seeing at least 10x. Never trade emotionally (hard ask believe me). Crypto News/"Influencers": 95% is sensational BS to drive traffic, clicks and views. Ignore it. Simple Security: Don't save any PW, phrases ect digitally, write it down and poor man laminate it with clear packing tape, then lock it up. Don't let your devices save autofill options. Use any 2FA when offered. Passwords should be a MINIMUM of 15 diversified characters. Invest in hardware wallets (and learning how to use them) when storing anything 5 figures or over. Personal life: Just... don't talk about crypto to friends and fam, 9/10 times it just creates headaches in one form or another. The same can be said for stocks too really. Too many others mistakes become your responsibility all of a sudden when they make a stupid decision based loosely off of a past conversation.

Feels good... found my password for my vault switched phones, new app didn't have my vault and I could remember the password i created. Been bummed out over it. It's not a lot but they were my moons ya kno. I just found the PW my moons are back

Definitely not possible to retrieve the banking UN/PW through CB, as Coinbase doesn’t store your bank account login credentials. If the bank account was logged into directly and the funds transferred out, that further points to this being an issue with the host machine and not on Coinbases end. Since now you have two accounts with different entry points and credentials being compromised. Unless you’re just saying they logged into their CB account and made more coin purchases. That’s possible if you didn’t have MFA and other safeguards in place on buying/selling/transferring. Given you can link your bank account to CB for direct withdrawals. They could’ve just kept buying more and the funds would come from the connected bank account.

My recommendation would be to take your seed phrase after writing it down on paper to a bank and opening a safe deposit box. Pay the money… end of story. Alternatively and less safe, would be a home safe, but again… much less secure. If you get robbed at home AND you’re home, you could be forced to open it. Also why it’s important to never talk about crypto and definitely your balances. If you like checking your balance often like I do... there’s a safer way to do it. You can use sites like etherscan to view the balances via your public address on blockchain. This method prevents malware and keyloggers from picking up your passphrase as you’re entering it. If you leave your wallet unlocked overnight or for any extended period of time and/or your computer on with the wallet open, you’re at risk of losing your assets. If you’re a buy and hold type, buy, transfer and view balances online. There’s no reason to even have a wallet app installed on your computer or mobile devices unless you’re sending. With the exception of certain contracts that require you to have an app installed to receive staking rewards or something unique. Never save your seed phrase on your comp or phone. This has cost me substantially. Learn from my mistakes :) If you want to always have a hot wallet installed, install Malwarebytes and run it every single day to keep malware off of your computer or phone. Religiously run Malwarebytes every.single.time before you enter your wallet PW. Don’t bother remembering your seed phrase. One stumble memory wise and you’re done. That’s riskier than owning crypto itself.

How about you use an encryption on your PW as well for more complications. But one you make yourself so that only you know the key to decrypt it. Like reverse the alphabet or use ASCII but add an extra twist by subtracting/adding some number to it.

The advantage of recovery codes of any kind is that unlike seed phrases they don't yell "cryptoooooooo" and they only work on a specific exchange. Bearing that in mind, this is what I would do: 1.) Create an encrypted archive with Veracrypt (or others) that is a few MB in size and set a password that you're 100% able to remember. As this will only be one part of the protection layer it doesn't need to be super complex. Use PWs like "PurpleHorseAstronaut" that are easy to remember because they form a mnemonic image in your brain but are still safe due to the length. MAKE SURE YOU LITERALLY CAN'T FORGET THE PW. 2.) Mount the archive and put a text file with your recovery code in it. Change the file ending or delete it altogether so that it doesn't suggest it's a text file. You can also add lots of lots random text after or before your code to obfuscate it further and boost the file size so you can more believable pic an .mp3 file ending or something even further away from text file. 3.) Do the same file ending change for the encrypted archive itself as well. Anything that fits the file size and doesn't suggest it's an archive. 4.) Put this unsuspecting file on a Cloud Drive that's not connected to your exchange email account but has 2FA as well. If someone manages to pierce all these layers of fakery and misdirection maybe he deserves your crypto xD You can always add more complications like adding dummy files to both the archive and the drive etc

I'm actually very much pro exchanges, as long as it's a good one. If it's a good exchange the security doesn't actually have to be less. A wallet is only as safe as safe you keep the seed phrase and some ppl just aren't good with that kind of responsibility.or don't live in circumstances that allow them to keep it safe reliably. Stuff like your exchange PW and 2FA setup keys can be easier to keep safe coz they don't scream "this is a seed phrase" like that 12 word piece of paper you hid somewhere. A good exchange will help you even if you lose your access means. I use Kraken which I personally consider the best exchange when it comes to security, customer support and usability (use the Kraken Pro app tho) while I've heard bad stuff about Binance and Coinbase. The main downside of exchanges is that you get lower staking rewards or can't stake a particular coin at all … otoh often staking thru wallets means having to split your coins on various wallets which I find insecure and too nerve-wracking xD Also you don't get airdrops and you can't participate in any governance votes.

I got into this space in January and was doing a lot of irresponsible things at the time, in my life. Don't remember the PW or did anything to remember my phrase. Funny bc I'm sure I created a PW that i was *sure* to remember. Been making attempts for a month or two to remember/guess any pw combo of my normal ones I can think off. Nope. So I said screw it might as well just open a new one now before I lose more moons to it. Plus I just started becoming just as active as ever on here, so recovering that 102 shouldn't take me the 10 months it took before lol, hopefully

Its connected to your account but the password is different and seperate, if you didn't write that down and you didn't save or lost the recovery phrase you're S.O.L. if you log out of Reddit (or use a new device like me) just because you can get back into your Reddit account with 2fa or your PW(or whatever) doesn't mean you have access to the vault, it will prompt a password challenge and if you forgot it the only way to get it back is with the seed I'm not sure how the extra % works, there was actually a thread about it on here like in the last day or 2, if you scroll through you'll probably find it

OTP. The OTP client can be on your phone, if the app is separately locked. The app DB should be encrypted - even if your phone is compromised, the OTP DB would have to be separately cracked. As an aside rant: There's a saying in security that 2F is something you know, and something you have. I firmly believe this was invented by companies selling hardware (RSA dongles), and companies like Google who want you to run everything you do through their services. Password, and OTP. If you have those, and if you can remember your passwords or have your encrypted PW DB backed up, and you have your encrypted OTP DB backed up, then all you have to worry about is key sniffers and torture.

Allright as long as you DYOR all is well. Invest in what you think is right. Just read up a lot as much as you can Like crypto is 90% scams. As i said in another comment..you revealed you are new.. watch your profile get a ton of new followers (scammers) Scammers PMing you and so on. Dont reveal anything about you.. especially not how much you hold. If they get enough data from you they will try to impersonate you with customer service claiming they lost the PW but can proof its you because they know how much you hold amongst other infos. Be really really careful in this space.
