Don't get me wrong the tools are there to protect yourself, but negative government action will certainly affect things. If tomorrow the U.S. federal government decided they were going to "ban" bitcoin, there are significant amounts of people that would seek to exit rather than engage in "illegal" activity. My luck I'd probably have a boating accident and lose my wallet, but I'm an unlucky SOB. Anyone who understands this stuff (and there are government employees that do advising the ones that don't) knows that the cat is now out of the bag and it can't be completely stopped short of shutting off the internet for good etc. I can absolutely see the Federal government response to hyper inflation and the collapse of fiat to come up with some "amazing" plan to use a CBDC backed by bitcoin, and then engage in things like what it did with gold, and of course eventually removing the backing. They can't make you give up your coin, but they can certainly apply all manner of coercive pressure to get you to give it up "willingly".

Think about all the good folks in the US who got stuck with Trump. We didn’t vote for him. Didn’t want him, and many of us believe he and his family should spend the rest of their lives in jail. But that didn’t happen. Couldn’t even impeach the SOB. Individual citizens, ppl with families and children, living under an authoritarian regime, are also forced to suffer. The fight is not against the Russian ppl - it’s against Putin and what he stands for.

I've wondered if this was one of the reasons why the Biden Admin was looking into passing crypto laws to get something on the books. Putin can use crypto to get around sanctions, and I'm sure other governments are aware of that. He's an evil tyrant, and I don't want that SOB using crypto to help himself mitigate shit after what he has done to innocent people.
