It is and it isn't. I think the main benefit is that it seems like that this fund might be a bit more tax efficient rather than owning bitcoin itself due to the difference in how PIE funds and capital gains are taxed.

My initial thoughts is that it seems like a more tax efficient way to invest in bitcoin. The following explanation is from u/AnthonyInvestNow "The fund pays tax using the FDR tax methodology at their PIR rate, whereas when Kiwis invest directly in bitcoin they pay tax on any capital gains they realise. This means that the maximum amount of tax someone in the PIE fund would pay in any given year is 5% (being the FDR deemed rate) x 28% (being the highest PIR rate) which equals 1.4% per annum in tax. In contrast if someone on a 33% tax rate realised a 10% gain on their holding in bitcoin, they would pay 3.3% in tax. For a negative return, holding bitcoin direct would produce a better "after tax" outcome."

Crypto has a total coin circulation pie... While this pie is getting larger over time (https://coinmarketcap.com/charts/ ) Generally speaking people see Eth going up... this they sell BTC for ETH or invest in eth. This causes eth to own a larger piece of the pie than it did yesterday. The crypto PIE is essentially fixed and movement between assets are largely correlated with no relation to past history or trends. The cryptosphere has grown over all, but it will also dip down when the market corrects. What is fixed is the general amount of overall coin circulation. Its completely normal and expected of bitcoin to drop as money is being spent on other coins at a higher rate. When those coins slow down, money will be spent selling for FIAT or BTC. Since smaller cap coins are impacted more by this movement, they tend to tank very quickly. TLDR; Cant have a market where alts thrive and bitcoin doees at the same time

I like it, this is almost exactly my story! I also started last year around october/november with a very small investment (around 450€). First I was clever, I researched my top 3, then spend the rest somewhat evenly scattered over \~11 coins I invested because my guts told me so (or I liked the idea/logo/price whatever). Then I sat back for 2-3 months and watched them behave, or "do their thing", as people call it on reddit. In the meantime I took my freetime and learned a shitload fucking metric ton of new stuff (discovered GME as well around december), basically giving myself a 16h+ a day crashcourse in crypto, the financial market, its history, whos who of crypto and stonks and so forth. After YEETVESTING a bit into GME, I felt I was ready to YOLO everything I don't need into crypto. That was around february 1st. And that's when the rookie shit began, I thought I could never do, because I invested so much time in research and learning and reading all about panic selling, FOMO, etc etc. Well. As it seems this is a learning curve almost EVERY HODLER has to learn for himself. YOU WILL MISS YOUR FIRST OPPORTUNITIES AND YOU WILL FOMO AND YOU WILL PANIC SELL - EVEN IF YOU THINK YOU ARE 1000000000% SURE YOU'RE NOT DOING IT, THAT IS EXACTLY THE MOMENT WHEN YOU DO IT. When everybody does it, all of my friends who got into crypto this year, did exactly this. And I think I can explain that as well: We are all basicall somewhere in our 30s and tired of that shit place that's called "The Market". Doesn't matter what you work IRL, there's a 90% chance of you getting buttraped with a cactus, because most companies are not understanding the modern age, because they are being lead by people who are to old/stubborn/stupid/greedy/conservative to get even the least tiny bit of what is going on at all. Our salaries are shit - compared to our parents. We are tired of just making enough money to somewhat feel comfortable until the end of the month and having 0 perspective or future, wherever we go, whatever we try. Then crypto comes in - the investment of our people. Almost everybody knows someone who made enough money from it, to be able to comfortably lean back, or pay back loans, or whatever.... My only explanation is, that people are so desperate to finally get out of this blender of capitalistic society we were thrown in, without almost any information to help us/shield us from it in the first place. And it's not even the guilt of "Boomers" alone, even though almost all CEOs, Managers, and whatnot actually are BOOMERS AND GRANDPARENTS WHO FAIL AT GROUND SCHOOL ARITHMETICS, it is not their fault alone. There happens to be a common misunderstanding of the word "Capitalist", I heard so many people in my life through all ages unconfidently joking about "being a capitalist" when it's about money, or when they try to justify something they bought, because they wanted it. Ok I assume as a developer you are famiar with stack ltotection and PIE. In many crypto siftware implementarions sending a transaction is comprised of 3 major parts: 1/ select & construct the raw transaction inputs into the message 2/ sign the message with the private key 3/ broadcast the message to the p2p network Only part 2 needs access to the private keys in the wallet. As such parts 1 & 3 can be done on a different device to part 2.
