Time to goon, leave a long position on ES. Then bed and wake up poor
Just bought 4 ES 7775 calls. Will sell 8 of the 7800 calls tomorrow and buy 4 of the 7825 turning it into a butterfly. If this plays out like im expecting it should be about 1500% ROIC
There’s a penny stock called ES
Lol I’m staying long 2 gold @4395 and 2 ES at @7703 thru the fed minutes
the rate itself is hard to move much on a small account, they mostly negotiate for volume. the lever nobody's mentioned is contract selection: that $2.25 is basically fixed per contract, so trade the full-size future option (/CL, /GC, /ES) instead of the micro (/MCL, /MGC, /MES). a full-size has roughly 10x the premium of a micro for the same commission, so if you're selling premium the fee as a % of what you collect drops about 10x. on a small account people default to micros to keep size down, but that's exactly what makes $2.25 hurt, it's a big chunk of a tiny micro premium. SPAN is efficient enough that a small account can usually hold one full-size short, just know a naked short's margin scales up fast when vol spikes, so size it as one real position. the micro options are also way less liquid, so the wide bid/ask there often costs you more than the commission. if you genuinely can't fit a full-size, the drag is just the cost of trading that small and negotiating won't fix it.

learn to read the charts. especially NQ and ES futures.

ES/NQ came into the week with a textbook sell setup. Just cleared last week’s range, 9 straight red 4hr candles. NQ floats up 200pts unscathed in after hours and the bottom is in.
ES barely a single tick over vwap since the friday open, where were the signs :derp:
if SPY 765 and /ES 7700 go, this will get really nice and juicy
You mean the same ES which was literally at all time highs few days ago? 😂😂🤡🤡
Idk about that, i expect ES to bear trap below 7700
S&P /ES futures options trade 23 hours a day
Shocked ES hadn’t hit 7500 yet lmao
My god the volume on ES is non existent. We gonna drop hard soon dude
No I meant. Just going long SPY ETF or ES futures has a better Sharpe and also ROI-to-Drawdown ratio. Why would you still trade this? I see some benefits but wanted to see your logic.
You can by /ES options right now!
That’s why some of defensive sectors are moving because they’re squeezing last drops from megacaps and others in XLK for example but we see declining volume on say ES\_F so need probably some correction I hope maybe flagging into September
buying an (M)ES future is basically buying voo on leverage except and gains (or losses) are immediately added to your account cash balance (they’re mark to market). gains also have the advantage of being taxed as 60/40 long/short term cap gains regardless how long you hold it. 1 MES is about equal to buying 40k VOO and 1 ES is like 400k. the carry cost is similar to buying stock on margin at 3% interest. however you pay nothing upfront and only pnl is reflected in your account. (they do count against your account’s margin though) if the index is flat, the price will slowly decay—that’s your interest/carry cost. you can also buy YM for the dow, NQ for QQQ or RTY for russell 2000 (IWM). i’m treating them as if i actually bought that much stock as that’s how the pricing moves. e.g. if VOO moves 1% you’d get +/- $400 (MES) or $4000 (ES). you don’t get any dividends but that’s reflected in reduced carry costs. the contracts expire so you’ll have to roll them ever 3 months if you stick to the front contracts.
How does one Buy an ES future with a smaller account. Isn't it 30k margin, which is Cash in a Cash account .
You would be better off just buying the ES futures, instead of the SPX synthetic. They will be more liquid with less margin required. This is what the SPX MM's hedge with. You will also get the same 60/40 tax treatment as you would with SPX options.
wait for the news , check /ES and buy XSP since you can before hours
they started around 3AM EST -- go look at ES around that time everyday
european markets effect /ES for one
order flow on /ES is just chaos, no clear pumpy or dumpy feeling
And I thought I was throwing caution to the wind trading ES verticals. OPs son is going to end up bankrupt if he’s not careful, and maybe even if he is careful.
male urge to max short ES cuz im almost blacked out
I am like you and trade Options/Futures, mainly Big Tech Options, SPY, QQQ or /ES and /NQ. I have tried or at least researched most of those. I have tried SpotGamma, Unusual Whales, QuantData, MenthorQ, Tradytics, Tanuki and HedgePulse and a few others. Originally SpotGamma was the best years ago for sure. They were the first I ever saw, and that is how I learned about GEX. Some others are close and maybe even better in some ways now, but cheaper for what they offer. HIRO from SpotGamma is nice, but I just don't want to pay that much. I use HedgePulse now because I like seeing SPY and QQQ side by side, and the market breadth info is nice. I just use the new app and the NinjaTrader indicator they have. QuantData is also decent and around the same price, but it doesn't do the same things exactly and the layout isn't my favorite. I think QuantData, MenthorQ, and SpotGamma are probably the closest, but more expensive for what I want to use or don't offer what I need. MenthorQ uses the futures options levels, so it is similar to HedgePulse, but they use the ETFs, which are more liquid and they convert that to the futures price which I like better.
This exactly, I daytrade SPX and do all the strategies mentioned except for no ES future.
The long term success sellers i know do weekly ICs on SPX and have set in stone strategies on when and where to hedge using any/all of the following: adding extra longs, scalping in/out of any of the 4 legs, and trading /ES. Also knowing when to close a position early is a huge skill. It takes a decent amount of BP as you have to have enough left to hedge with. Depending on the week, it can be 0 management, or hours a day.
ES contract i bought last friday finally pumping
SPY/ES and QQQ/NQ popping. NVDA: Meh, I'll go a little green.
Going Long 10 ES contract before Jobless/PPI
Bers don’t look but the biggest, fattest, juiciest bull flag is forming on ES 📈📈📈📈📈🐂🐂🐂🐂🐂
It depnds - on a 1mm portfolio - it may make more sense to just use /ES to leverage. The notional value of /ES is currently around 388k. So - you can just compare the carry cost of /ES vs using margin. The futures contract will typically be closer to SOFR.
Out ES 7765.50 Almost 1k on the day just on futures.
Added ES at 7761 7763.50 Out half 7764.50
Took a ES long. 7768 Will add if we drop to 63-65...
wrong direction ES. go back up re-trace your dumb pump from 3 minutes ago
wow the guys trading ES really didnt like the CPI report for some reason
last month everyone said the CPI was fake af so I will bet on another fake af CPI ES wont go down, but the 6:30am candle will be a very schizo one anyway
cashing out my ES 7790 puts for 20k, thanks exit liquidity... see your broke dumb asses tomorrow
This is going to be the one that holds. Tripling down my short position on micro ES lmao.
I should probably short another micro ES. I’ll be damned if I don’t break even.
You can thank me for saving the economy. I shorted a micro ES.
/ES developing another bull flag.
/ES developing another bull flag.
Just give me 5 more points on ES
ES and NQ on some major ghey shit
15 ES mini contracts locked and loaded!!!
Trash, low volume price action in M/ES futures. I'm locked out; algorithms buying every micro dip, but I need a deeper pullback to enter safely. 🙄
Both points are fair. The OI to dealer step is an assumption, the same one every vendor makes. I just try to say it out loud instead of burying it. On netting across SPX SPY ES: agreed, and I don't do it. There's no public data that shows one desk's book across instruments, so the map stays per instrument with a cross index agreement check, which is weaker than real netting. It's on the known weakness list. If you know a public source that would let anyone net that honestly I'd genuinely like to hear it.
OI is not dealer-gamma, you can't make that deduction. Also, there are quite a few correlated underlyings on S&P 500 like SPX/SPY and ES futures etc. For accurate positioning, you need to somehow aggregate these, otherwise dealer's position in one might cancel the position on another.
I can't even enter in M/ES futures; every micro dip is constantly being bought. 🥲
Measured move, +40 points on ES
ES about to find support, on the 12th/ 13th fib EMAs
If you are going to do 10-20% stop lost on 0dte. Your better off just day trading ES or NQ. You will get wicked out so fast
i don't think it's bearish is it ES and YM got up in the all time highs flying, NQ will prob catch up, RTY who knows small caps are kinda shit
I follow ES options for confluence while trading ES. My option chain construction uses the 0DTE, 1DTE, Friday, EOM, and Quarterly contracts. I monitor the strikes +/- 100 with current ES price. Volume is very low so I mostly monitor bid/ask levels. I won't give too much away but there are very specific algorithmic trade patterns after market open and before lunch hours at certain call/put strikes. They're visible because overall volume typically remains low. Else, they'd be buried with other market participants. They very often precede price movements in ES.
I have traded them for a while. One of the issues is that liquidity and bid-ask spread is sometimes very bad which makes trading options impossible in practice even if they are offered by the exchange. Another thing is that the pricing doesn't always behave the same way as for stocks - again probably caused by low liquidity. Many traders trade option spreads on the S&P500 minis 'ES' instead of SPX. I also found that oil and gold have good liquidity and had some success with trading spreads on these products. You need to spend some time analyzing the fundamentals and charts to build a directional thesis, I would not recommend delta-neutral strategies on commodity futures.
Ive used them and depending on what futures you trade, the spread can be a killer. They are great if you swing trade futures (not scalp), as you can sell against your futures position to help mitigate drawdown, and if you use a future contract as a core position and sell calls against profitable long positions or puts against short positions (basically like selling CCs with equities). Ive also taken profits and bought lottos that hit hugely if your right, like if you've scalped 50 nq points in the morning, you could go buy a far otm call for 4 pts and with the hugely increased range that nq will move in a day or two, you can hit huge on those. Ive had a call i paid 4 points for end up worth 250 pts by the end of the day. Thats $4880 profit on $80. Really no different than normal options, just gotta understand the future contract your messing with. I know NQ and ES options are really liquid, but MNQ and MES can be really bad on the spread. I'd imagine commodities futures are pretty bad as well.
I don't trade commodities anymore. trading ES is much simpler since I just have to wait for Trump to TACO lol
I trade almost exclusively spx. I did /ES years ago, but I truly saw zero benefit compared to SPX
bought my first ES contract. let’s see how this goes.
/ES 7768 needs to break re-test and fail for downside ditto /NQ 29720
nah NQ and ES just staying in shit range
I’ve been doing this long enough to know that if I longed after a 5% run on ES and a 10% run on QQQ in < a week when it cools off and I lose it would be “well duhhhh what did you expect it needs to cool off” and if I short on the idea of taking a breather and things clearly being short term overheated it’s “hahahaha gay bear cope harder”
What's with the price action on NQ/ES QQQ/SPY
I just used $1.95m leverage on /ES to make $950 I'm fucking retarded
and yeah I hate that everyone references /ES for levels and such and I have to do the (basic) arithmetic to translate it to SPX. Fuckers SPX doesn't change month by month use that instead!!
the issue is with /ES options the % returns are worse since so much volatility is baked into the premium. You can get really explosive moves with SPX options that you simply can't get with /ES
ES crazy range bound since yesterday close
Uhh read that again. I said a 20 point move in ES/SPX is now equal to about 25bp. Lol
Man. 1100 lot order pinning ES dead in place
Can you guys see another 150 point downward move in ES/spx?
4 days ago the daily ES candle opened outside the lower bollinger band. Today the daily candle opened outside the upper bollinger band. And people are still chasing calls. You guys need to chill. So late to the party.
Sometimes the play is to just wait. Wake me up when ES is trading back under 7700 so I can get my butterflies back on again. Right now, I'm just a caterpillar, sleeping and waiting for the right moment.
the current /ES price is once again the ATH
30 mins before bell the /ES always has this mini-dump dont worry about it
I did a similar trade. Bought 50x Aug5 ES future calls at $1.58 w/ 7650 strike when futures market opened Sunday and sold at $92 Tues. They are currently worth $150 with a day left but I chickened out and took gains early. Not bad for 4k gamble. Have another $4k gamble expiring in 5 days. https://preview.redd.it/1j1da80f2ihh1.png?width=1834&format=png&auto=webp&s=b53bd1debe090552769e98798dc34218b4279058
