Have noticed this a few times, particularly IWM/RUT. There is an arb there when you see it but it's rare and quickly resolved on SPY. The IWM/RUT one is usually corrected around open. For example if you notice the IWM gap is disproportionately larger than RUT/RTY you can usually expect a violent inventory correction/gap fill at open. You can write a script to monitor the fair value of ES in SPY terms, RTY in IWM terms. Just don't expect to make a living from it. But yeah you've basically noticed an inefficiency which is one component of edge and exactly the kinds of thing you should be noticing.

The short answer is that it is impossible to make money trading SPY against SPX. If you think you've found a way to do it, you've misunderstood something about how they work. E.g., SPY has dividends, but SPX does not have dividends. However, the cost of dividends is included in the SPX price. So, you might be looking at /ES futures in contango (i.e., they are trading higher than the current S&P 500 index price) thinking that you could make money buying SPY and shorting an equivalent dollar amount in /ES, but you'd be wrong.
Buy 20 ES mini contracts and trust me, Futures Will Be Important.

There was a whole debacle with SPY/SPX at the close Friday. SPY and even ES and SPX I suppose had a mini flash crash, SPY made it all the way down to 715, closed that flash crash candle at 3:59:59.999. SPX can adjusted its closing price at or after 4PM. So SPX adjusted up at 4:00:00 PM that .5% difference you’re seeing. SPY doesn’t have a mechanism to adjust the closing price like SPX does. TLDR there’s no arb or anything you can do to take advantage of this

Only thing making money in this chop fest. My usual 1-2w swing trade setups just aren't there. There was one in dollar pairs and gold, I caught part of the gold short and stopped out early on my eur/usd short and missed that one. Other than that its been 0d or 1d trades in ES and RTY. Ive been holding some ES and GC calls since friday, and doubled down on todays open. I am hoping I can hold these for a couple days this week.

My signals are free for interpretation. \*Disclaimer\* occasionally I’ll be extremely sarcastic on a pump or a dump (if it’s because it’s a trap.) If you’ve paid attention to anything I’ve said since yesterday, the moves have been almost spot on. (For ES I said wait to go long until under 7530 and then it dipped to just under 7530 around midnight(CT) My goal is to have dumbasses not fomo into awful trades. Which plagues this subreddit. Yes, I’m profitable when I actually follow my own advice I give on here. When I don’t follow my gut, that’s when I lose.
Leverage. Options, futures, and some other instruments let you multiply the gains AND losses inflicted by a stock’s price movements. For example, the intraday margin requirement for a single long Micro ES futures contract is around $130, while a single share of SPY is $745. Despite MES requiring less than 1/5 of the money for 1 share of SPY, the futures contract exposes you to the profits or losses you would be exposed to if you had bought FIFTY shares of SPY, which would cost (745*50=)$37,250. So, if instead of buying 1 SPY share for $745, you used that same amount of money to meet the margin requirement for five MES contracts, your account with $745 in it would be exposed to the same price movements of an account with $186,250 invested into SPY, or 250 shares. You would be multiplying both the profits and losses by 250. For the account with $186k in it, the daily movements of SPY are no big deal. For the account with $745 in it, a $3 drop in the price of SPY (a totally normal daily price movement) would put you at negative $5, though your brokerage would likely force you to close your position before that happened. Believe it or not, options can offer much more extreme leverage than futures can. Leverage is how you see some people go from $1000 to $100,000+ in 1-2 days on this sub, while most go from $100,000 to $1000 in the same timeframe. It’s an incredibly dangerous game to play, and it will ruin your life if you aren’t careful and/or extremely lucky. If you decide to get into options, know that options are much more complicated than futures because of things like theta, gamma, and implied volatility. Sorry for the long response, but this stuff really interests me.

When you roll a put down and out quickly after selling it, you realize a loss, because you were forced to buy back your put after it went up in value. You must roll your puts when threatened or accept the loss, because you have no limit to your losses. Yes, you can roll and sell a more expensive put lower and longer, but to get back to even on the trade that put has to decay enough to offset the realized loss from rolling. If you were to sell SPY puts or ES puts instead, you could wait for mean reversion to improve the situation, because you know the worst case scenario is that you are assigned SPY shares or ES contracts at the strike. Once assigned you can sell calls against them.
Option quotes will still update, just look at /ES to gauge the movement.
1 SPX vs 2 ES vs 10 SPY. Selling ES puts is technically the most effecient, due to SPAN margin. If assigned at 7000, you are long 700k in notional value for 50k in margin. The lever cuts both ways though. Can you hold 2 ES for a 1000 handle draw down? That is 100k in unrealized losses and may cut into your available margin enough to force liquidation. Selling 10 SPY puts gets you long 700k in SPY if assigned, but you can hold it forever. Selling SPX puts naked opens you up to unlimited cash settled risk. There is no waiting it out, you just pay a debit for the difference in spot/strike and the trade is over.
Yeah this is a wild take. In a port margin account: Selling 1 SPX 7050 for 20 bucks is 68k margin. Selling 10 SPY 700 for 20 bucks is 68k margin, but I can own SPY for 700 (if I had 700k cash available) until it is in my favor. Selling 2 ES 7075 puts for 20 bucks is 55k in margin and I can own 2 ES contracts until it is in my favor (if I can continue to keep enough maintanance to support the position). Out of these three, selling the naked SPX is by far the worst option.

We've got downward divergence in the RSIs and MACDs across ES, NQ and RTY. Yet futes are flatlining now from the fake deal pump. Sell orders are loading up for MMs to drop the floor under Bols when Big Money pulls the trigger. The options price simulator for SPX shows a $7,550 call is currently buying for $7.10 but if you check the price simulator it shows as possibly worth $8k. What does that mean? ES futures for June show $7,516 if that’s relevantv
