Ahh. Another widow-maker, along with NAIL, SOXL and my personal fav: BOIL
eli5 how things like KOLD and BOIL decay and stuff.
Ah. The other best widow-maker after BOIL.
After many painful assfuckings, I learned not to touch VIX BOIL KOLD
Hard to say, although still leaning bullish long term. I have a bunch of UNG myself that ill keep until fall and reassess. Global supply is still low, and demand remains steady. Overall bullish pressures, its just how much volatility you can take in the mean time. we Might be able to see 6, 7$ come next year, really depends on global energy policy. Any tightening of supply will just cause more upward price pressure. If you want to be safe, sell you BOIL and keep your UNG, you'll protect more profits that way since the 2x leveraged BOIL can drop reallyyy quick. Good luck, but I think keeping a solid UNG position is a good bet through till year end.
You missed out on RGTI, LCID, BOIL, and now RZLV
BOIL has lost its mind.
Why is NG / BOIL ripping?
When recession is announced watch BOIL
For the love of god, please don’t do this until you research 3x leveraged ETF’s. It is meant to be a short term play (weeks is a long hold) because the fees and decay (with it being 3x) would kill you long term. Price of these over time gets down to single digits and they reset at a higher price via reverse split to make it tradable for swings and options. See 3x long of XBI is LABU, 3x long of UNG is BOIL etc
TTF gas is drilling. KOLD calls and BOIL puts looking attractive.
Your thoughts on how BOIL is jumped majorly the past few weeks. See it going higher or is this it for awhile.
Gents anyone tracking the LNG market? Are we hitting BOIL 200?
BOIL went from high 40's to 96 in less than a month
If any of you are really desperate, BOIL is flying.
BOIL has wild swings every day it seems. I want to scalp options on it. Am I regarded?
[Henry Hub Natural Gas Futures](https://www.eia.gov/dnav/ng/hist/rngwhhdW.htm) for late night consumption. BOIL doubled since 1/31
Appreciate the discussion between you both. I jumped into both UNG & BOIL >1 year ago for the f#?k of it. Trying to fig out when to bail. Sounds like should of earlier today! 🤣
UNG and BOIL new 52 week highs but still far below 2 year high. Room to run after the big draw that will be reported tomorrow at 10:30 am.
I have a few limit sells on BOIL at 100 and stops at 120. I don't see it going up another week in a row on current LNG supply/demand elasticity
Wtf BOIL up 50% this week
Wow, lots of info to go thru' and let me be honest. I don't trade UNG or KOLD or BOIL much. Just nibbled a little today and made some money. After all, UNG is a widow maker and am well aware of that and wouldn't hold it for more than few hours. So, thank you for the education and there are far safer bets on the markets than NG, imo! I nibbled today because on ST, there were posts about how cheap the 3x bears are and that's why I looked at the chart. I wouldn't trade it like you as the contango and backwardation is too much to handle for me. Same goes for WTI.
BOIL has been pumping lately. Must be cold somewhere
Thanks to natural gas, you won't die tonight. $BOIL https://preview.redd.it/6q4ofrs6v0ke1.jpeg?width=680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ebfa6f9336645c0cd82384f9ed5b29f43023700c
ROKU, BOIL, and SMCI Took 60%+ losses on all three, upwards of $20k losses each time.
I was thinking either BOIL or KOLD, maybe both.
There’s still headline risk ahead with (ambulance chasing perhaps?) lawsuits and no doubt people will try to flood the zone with tariff FUD, and other hills to climb. But they are staging to be a massive LNG transporter and exporter at a time when I think everybody foreign and domestic will be trying to get their hands on natural gas. It’s weird seeing my BOIL go up 10% in a day while this goes down 20%, but this one I’m tucking in a long term account.
The daily chaos and tech-stock-of-the-day is maybe causing us to miss some secular opportunities. One of mine the insatiable demand for more and more electricity. Doesn’t even matter if AI becomes real or not, every inch of this country (and the planet) is seeking to consume more electricity. Nuclear builds going into operation are 20 years away, and the demand for electricity is now. So that leaves two mega-growth opportunities. One is renewables. Pick your favorite. The second is natural gas. Our data centers and air conditioners and EV charges and baseboard heaters and gaming consoles and everything else demands the electricity, and that means demand for NG is going parabolic over the coming years. That, plus the international demand, plus the telegraphed federal policy mean liquidified natural gas is going to be surging. That means LNG, that means VG, that means BOIL.

People have made… and lost…. fortunes on $BOIL and $KOLD. Wish I would have bought in to $BOIL on October 1…
Play volitility. Up and down. Also, I am playing KOLD into the spring and BOIL into summer.
I don't know what's going on at all anymore, but BOIL (2x leveraged nat gas) is at its 50-day, so I'm buying calls.
No, unless I’m misunderstanding this news, they aren’t creating a platform, they’re creating investible products. So ETFs, whatever the ETF equivalent for crypto is, etc. (so like SPY, QQQ, BOIL)
It's not investing it is trading, border line gambling. These are volatile moves that require a deep understanding of the underlying factors and very close monitoring. Possibility of making large, quick gains. Equally strong possibility of large, rapid loss. Probably shouldn't be the majority of your investment portfolio. But it's just like gambling on crypto...if you want to do it go for it, set aside a little bit and see how you do. I'll openly admit, got into them for a few trades with KOLD and BOIL. Did a lot of research, followed all the charts and news, etc and lost most of what I put in. Wasn't much but it's not for me and I won't do it again, thoughtful longer term investing has been extremely fruitful for me.
use half of it for a year or longer, at or slightly out of the money call on SPY, BOIL puts with the same characteristics are also fine
Buying more BOIL, a 2x leveraged nat gas play. Still a buy where it is, but if it somehow retests $36, that's the must-buy number for everyone. Could double quickly, but I think it will outperform even that lofty number by EOY 2025.
BOIL about to hit $45.
BOIL under $40 again.
Time to start investing in natural gas, leveraged stock, BOIL. I'm in 95%
I’ve had a rough time playing BOIL. Natty gas futures are a different kind of animal
BOIL (nat gas) all day on these dips. Only stock where I'm happy to wake up to the "down 10%" notification. Time to spend.
BOIL wonderful example. Leveraged natural gas etf. Please point out where boil reaches an ATH after natural gas, because clearly I'm ignorant
What symbol do you use for natural gas? The only one I know is BOIL
BOIL and RGTI my top movers. I had to add some NIO. It sells more cars than Tesla and is worth a fraction.
No one is in the market for your contracts thus the mark is imaginary. You cut off the only important info but I'm guessing this is $BOIL2 which means you held held through the 1:5 reverse split two weeks ago. Your contract [now delivers 20 shares](https://infomemo.theocc.com/infomemos?number=55457) rather than 100. The contracts on the chain for $BOIL you see today were written after Nov. 7th.
I mean basically they're a storage center. I thought this would be about BOIL. Sold but there might be some day trading there.
Picked a good week to go long on BOIL lol. Very high on natural gas going forward. Anything cheap in the energy sector is a buy and hold with the extraordinary demand we'll have to service to propel AI and quantum. Eye in the ball.
I am the only one who is optimistic on IWM and BOIL,the CPI data will probably hit me in the face but i see more space on IWM to rise that SPY nowadays
Lucky you. They told me to put BOIL in my car and the repo man came and took it already.
BOIL is often referred as ‘widow maker’ for a reason. Sell your holding now and realize the loses. While it can be used for short-term bets or hedging, it’s not suitable for long-term holding. Even if natural gas prices remain stable, leveraged funds like BOIL experience value decay over time.
I trade natural gas, leave it to the pros, retail has no business trading the sector, much less using leveraged ETFs. You have no idea what you don't know, there are so many factors to consider. For example: What determines price? It is expected future Supply/Demand, not "winter" or "summer." What is the structure of futures curve? Contango because of expected Winter demand. What is the effect of high storage? High NG storage costs further increases contango. What is the effect of weather? Warmer than expected temps reduces price around Winter and increases price around Summer. What is the supply level of O&G producers? Dependent on producing area and each company. What is current storage compared to historical average? If high above averages, it takes tighter S/D to reduce glut, so price must be at a level with high demand, ie low. How tight is S/D and will it over time reduce glut? Right now over 100 bcf/d is not tight, over 104 bcf is loose. At what price levels will E&Ps increase production? EQT, largest producer, suggests \~$3. What is the effect of associated gas? Ass. gas makes E&P breakevens negative for crude and Permian, so high oil prices actually depresses natural gas prices. What is the effect of hurricanes? Reduces electricity demand, LNG demand, and potentially takes out LNG production, which is highly bearish for NG prices. Will increased LNG affect prices? LNG is capped because of high capex, you can't transport a gas easily, so long term LNG wouldn't increase prices/demand is already expected. What is the effect of renewables? Wind and solar growth depresses NG demand for electricity, so high renewanble generation is bearish. At what price will E&P curtail production? Prices have to get low enough for producers to want to stop producing. This will be affected by production efficiency. How efficient is production? Are you knowledgeable about the industry, for example, how is "trimulfrac" doing? If you trade ETFs like UNG and BOIL, what exposure to the futures curve are they holding? When do they sell and roll into the next months and how will that affect price movement? As you can see, you basically need to be a professional to know what is actually going on. I would suggest not to trade it.
What happen with BOIL ? From 7$ & to 38$
the problem isn't that these products exist. the problem is you didn't understand the risks or how these ETFs actually operate. if you wouldn't buy more BOIL now and plan on a recovery, it's probably time to sell it all.
There is a natural gas price you see on the news reports. Then there are a whole bunch of prices that are the real prices for trading purposes https://www.barchart.com/futures/quotes/NGY00/futures-prices You have to know how BOIL has exposure to all those prices (term structure) to know how it will behave. Even if they are only holding the front month the front month will expire and they will have to roll it to the next month. The most common thing that happens here is a small loss. They often lose money simply by holding, there are costs to holding. And the compounding math of leveraged ETFs often causes them to lose value over time as well. Unless the price is going up in some kind of steady way all the time it won't go well.
Calls on natural gas $UNG $BOIL
EXE - \*CO. IS TALKING WITH ALL STAKEHOLDERS ON DIRECT SUPPLY FOR AI NAT GAS to supply data centers. Long as much nat gas EQT RRC BOIL and $BE
My Boys, try yourself some BOIL. I can't even believe this happens. Silver, oil, now NG.
winter is coming and it's cuffing season, someone touch BOIL
Here's an easy buy. Buy the crap out of BOIL. Sooner or later, it'll cost more to produce than buy
Lol at the people recommending "an ETF" like OP isn't going to pick one of the most insane money-burning ETFs available like SQQQ or BOIL. Then he'll come back whining in a year about how he followed yall's advice and he's down another 90%.
Careful with BOIL, it's not a stable index. 2022 you would be in 500%+ call.
I need to look into boil... Also, I'm doing this with SPXS (and SOXS - cry - well, it's recovering now) - SDS is actually safer.. my 1/3rd value is probably too conservative. Also if BOIL is uncorrelated, this will work splendidly
Yes, just a vanilla, high-risk brokerage acct. My idea was to balance BOIL and SDS shorts with 50% of the portfolio, since both are usually mutually exclusive, and when one is down the other is usually unaffected.
Zero if I’m not over non-margin bp - expense ratio is under 1%. Strategy is to mitigate BOIL and SDS losses by cashing out the other ticker to cover losses (in a spike), then eventually it’ll always settle back down with certainty.
my moves are BOIL, GUSH, and UCO + more LUNR and ASTS
yea BOIL was sort of frustrating to trade. It seems UNG price follows NG more truly. One day I saw NG go up like 5-10% in off hours, and then once the market opened, it retraced, so BOIL was -% that day, caught 0 of NG's gains through the night. Seems UNG options appreciated better, vs BOIL options. Though perhaps BOIL might be better to play if you're good at catching volatility. (I'm still looking for an indicator to track volatility on individual stocks / assets, and send alerts at certain thresholds).
Off the top of my head I'm thinking BOIL holds the next 2 months of futures, but it is also leveraged. Most leveraged funds have a daily reset. I'm not sure how BOIL achieves the leverage, I'm not interested in levered funds, especially on something known as the widow maker. If it does have a daily reset then it is really only appropriate for day trading. If you try to swing trade it and the price whipsaws as it moves towards your target that will be an additional drag on performance that stacks the deck against an otherwise correct call in the price movement.
It went up yesterday to ~12$ and I noticed other stocks like nvidia, amd, mu, and tsm were still at a good price so I sold 275 shares of BOIL at a loss and bought a few of those other stocks. Fortunately, the stocks I bought yesterday went up today so I'm feeling okay lol keeping 100 BOIL shares in hopes that it blows up some day
Commented short BOIL 1 hour ago. Follow me for more Shrek advice
Time to short BOIL?
I don't know if I have anything worthwhile to add. Volatility is mean-reverting, meaning it's likely to make it's way back into the 13-15 range so VIX option premiums are priced accordingly. I sold puts on the VIX for a few months (read about the tax advantages) and was lucky to make it out with a bit of profit, but it's a tough one to do. I've heard it called the Widow Maker here, but my guess is that these guys have never traded BOIL and lost like I did. Pros of VIX options: you don't have to guess direction. Vol is vol. For example, VIX is at about 20 now. You are handsomely rewarded for betting it'll stay at 20 (instead of reverting to 13-15). If you look at a stock (say, HOOD), you get almost nothing to bet the stock will stay where it's at now, since it probably won't revert back to 13 or 15.
Any idea how to invest in oil? My only experience was BOIL lmao
oops.....I was thinking about US ticker $BOIL.
OP is referring to a symbol on a Canadian stock exchange, not BOIL the ProShares ETF. The US symbol for Beyond Oil is BEOLF
Got burnt big time in BOIL and later made back after understanding how it works. This is not a normal triple leveraged ETF but a ETF that holds future NG contract that rolls over into next contract every 2 months (ex: on 6th working day of Oct, BOIL will selloff Nov' 24 contract and will buy Jan' 2025 contract). Even if your betting NG will go up you will need to look at future contract as the price would have already been baked in (ex: Nov' 24 contract NGX24 is $2.9 while Jan' 2025 NGf25 is at $3.58. So in order for you to gain in BOIL you will need NG to go to $3.7-$4 to gain). And since $BOIL resets everyday, the decay and contago will get you before you seen any gain. Long story short, DON'T TOUCH BOIL unless you know what you are dealing with. Look at BOIL loss of value every year (go back to 2013 to see what the share price was and make a call).
When I first started trading options I did CC on Ford. Which worked pretty well except that its pretty stable. So the premiums tend to be low. I have done CC on more volatile things like BOIL but it's pretty volatile. The premiums are better but its easy to predict wrong and get bit. Puts work much better for it
Sittin on 20 BOIL 11.5c for today... do I take the 200%
Up 150% on BOIL calls. Let's fucking gooooo
No such thing as safety. Only invest what you can afford to lose forever. Some tickers to look at: POWL, VST, OXY, SMR, DNN, BOIL. The last one is a bit of a widow maker.
I'm very bullish nat gas long term but BOIL is not a good play for a long term hold... Better to just buy UNG or long dated ITM calls on UNG. Conversely you could avoid futures and buy the producers, FCG etf comes to mind.
Ah yes, the infamous buy & hold leverage strategy. BOIL is designed to decay to zero. Don't believe me? Zoom out
My understanding is that BOIL is not designed as a long term hold due to the nature of leverage.
