This happened to my brother TWICE when he was with Sprint. It happened shortly after the merge with Tmobile and both times the Sim swap happened at a Tmobile store. Somehow they were able to trace it back to a specific store many states away, maybe an employee was in on the theft. He ended up switching to Verizon, with them you can turn on a security feature that does not allow Sim swapping. It's in the Verizon mobile settings, if you have Verizon I highly reccomned making sure it is turned on. . . Also, COLD STORAGE your coins!

Your crypto isn't actually stored on the cold wallet, the cold wallet is just a way to access your coins and it's protected by the seed phrase. If your cold wallet is lost or damaged, you can buy another one and have access to your coins if you know your seed phrase. # NEVER BUY A "USED" COLD WALLET. # NEVER FROM A THIRD PARTY.

Everyone should be taking coins off exchanges. They are called Exchanges because that's all they are good for. Not for storage! Take ownership of what's yours! MOVE TO COLD STORAGE or other forms of wallets where you have full control.

COLD wallet is your best option. You get a seed phrase to restore the wallet if you damage or lose the physical device. There is no better option besides the old air gapped pc option that was used before cold wallets became availble.

What device? COLD storage involves a device like a Ledger where your keys are never exposed online. A hot wallet (e.g. Coinbase Wallet, Metamask, Solflare, etc.) is online, it's purely a software wallet and they store your private key.

Yes, sort of, but perhaps it is best to understand clearly the role Electrum plays. (by the way, i am assuming you have a hardware wallet, such as ColdCard, Trezor, or the like) Be extra careful when you transfer--see below. People use the phrase "transfer to my wallet" but technically that's not really what's happening, so if you want to know... What's really going on ----- * You transfer from an exchange to a Bitcoin public address (technically you do not transfer to Electrum nor to your wallet). * Your Bitcoin value is recorded (in copies everywhere) on the Bitcoin Network's master ledger, forever and for all to see, as an Unspent Transaction Output (**UTXO**). * Technically, at the time of transfer, you do not need Electrum nor your wallet since that's not where you **store** your Bitcoin. * Electrum runs "HOT", connected to the Internet. It can interact with your wallet to learn your Bitcoin addresses and can query the Bitcoin network about UTXO values. Electrum can be used to get your Bitcoin addresses, but don't--see below. Electrum is most useful when spending your Bitcoin because it can help preparing the transactions (PSBT's) need for your wallet to sign. (Again, technically, you do not need Electrum nor your wallet at the time of transferring value from exchanges). * The hardware wallet (again also is also not where you **store** your Bitcoin) manages seed phrases and from a seed phrase deterministically derives Bitcoin addresses and their corresponding private keys. MULTIPLE COLD WALLETS: I am thinking of splitting my accounts on more than one cold wallet to spread the risk. Does it make sense to have more than one physical wallet, or to simply reset one wallet and set-up/enter the new wallet's seed? These are hodling wallets, not daily usage. I am leaning towards keeping one physical and switching seeds - it will also keep my memory fresh and practiced in recovery. Thoughts?
