Target and other companies never believed in any of the social changes they enacted. It was all for show to employees and customers. Costco, on the other hand, has a long history of hiring disabled workers, providing great benefits, providing an actual career to all staff etc. And it refused to back down from its DEI stance at the height of all other companies backtracking bc DEI is actually part of their business model and not just lip service.

Things could certainly change, no doubt about it. But I’m still on the side that it’s more likely US continues its dominance. China just does not appeal to non Chinese people as an authoritarian state. I don’t see how it’ll ever attract global talent like US or Europe. And Asian countries are just too insular in general to the outside world. Even Japan or Korea, first world democracies, really cant attract any global talent. Japanese/Chinese culture are just too difficult with very rigid social norms. I am certainly cheering on Europe as it’s good for everyone for Europe to be more innovative. But my sense is Europeans don’t want at all to be more like America. They will fight tooth and nail for their high taxes and welfare and 35 hour work weeks. I understand why they do that, as why would the average person want to reshape their society to make it easier for the 1%? But as long as America rewards the 1% disproportionately more, they’re going to flock to America. The only real factor here is whether Trump destabilizes the country enough in the next 3 years so that the damage is deep and irreversible. 3 years is a long time but so far I don’t think we’re really there. Businesses are still chugging along fine. There are some fights over university funding cause of DEI but honestly the DEI stuff is not at all popular with Americans in the first place, and the schools themselves have gone way too far.

I do not like DEI either, but a lot of legacy films, series, etc. i.e. SAW even, not mentioned below in half the chats of what content is owned by Lionsgate has real value. These movies are the furthest thing from DEI, and the series has garnered the highest horror film revenue in years..... but thats just one small piece of the big picture. Buying Lionsgate for $10-12 billion, is a drop in the bucket if you're wiping out their debt, and assuming their entire content library. Imagine how much content streamers would lose when one big player eats them up and stops licensing out the series, movies, documentaries, and more.

I think we might be at the same conclusion. The elite did want trump. Two wings same eagle. IMO for many reasons, the federal government/elite of this country does want mass deportations, it was always the plan since 2045 was a likely scenario. The working class had amassed too much strength at the time. Workers had more protections and DEI which further coalesced all the working people made us more of a threat to business and it showed. The US monopolys wanted their control back from globalization and better control over supply chains; tariffs. China and other countries already have mass surveillance and the systems to do it already setup and sending you a ticket if you jaywalk. Why wouldn't the US catch up? Here comes mass surveillance in America. The federal government had already made it's direction on these issues, but how would we get there? Biden or Harris could never get any of these issues to pass and would fail trying to pass it. But who could? And be the fall guy once it's done to top it all off? 🤔 Trump. The system already decided our fate, usually we get to pick good cop or bad cop. This time, the bad cop was the only way to get what they wanted out of us.
