I'm 39yrs old and I think I've eaten Wendy's maybe 6 times in my whole life. I guess nothing really calls me there over other options but the real killer for me was probably location. I drive past one if I go to home depot on the weekend but it's on the wrong side of the divided road. Fully loaded from home depot I take a slower way home. Otherwise I travel all over Florida for work and Wendy locations are never as convenient as McDonalds, burger King, or Hardee's. If we go into other genre they are also less convenient than subway, chicken filet, and DQ. Maybe I'll try to find one to try again before they are all gone. I'm still surprised BK is still standing. Their locations seem empty every day. I stopped last week and was the only car in the drive through but I was there waiting 23 minutes after paying. Just a normal combo#1 with onion rings, no special changes to it. BK is next, they've gotta be next.

Mortgage delq always spikes in January and they changed the loss mitigation waterfall for GNMA loans so we will see more serious DQ in that space going forward. For this month I'm seeing 4.25% DQ90+ vs 3.38% from last January(these numbers are skewed by banks that buy loans out of the pool at this stage).

my further DD on DQ based on CSIQ last week and the chinese solar market: CSIQ’s earnings showed that even downstream players are bleeding. They missed huge (–$0.53 EPS vs +$0.83 est.) despite saying margins improved. Translation: they’re buying polysilicon dirt cheap while demand is still weak → module makers can protect margins a little, but only because upstream suppliers like DQ are forced to sell below cost. For DQ, that’s a huge red flag: • Q1 ASP: $4.37/kg vs cost $7.57 → –66% margin. • Q2 ASP: only a small rebound ($5.0–5.5/kg realized vs ~$6.8–7 cost). Still negative. • Guidance: 25–28k MT production, flat vs Q1 → low utilization keeps costs high. • Liquidity: cash down from $2.2B → $792M in a year. Still debt-free but bleeding. • Chain reaction: CSIQ’s “better margins” = evidence DQ is selling at bottom-dollar prices. The stock ripped +70% in 3 months on ASP bounce + China consolidation rumors + analyst upgrades, but nothing structural improved. If EPS comes in worse than the –$0.72 consensus (likely closer to –$0.85 to –$1.00), momentum buyers dump. Think CSIQ’s post-earnings flush all over again. I live in a small town and I don’t get it. There’s a DQ, a McDonald’s, a pizza place, a Mexican restaurant, and 2 grocery stores. That’s the extent of our food options here aside from driving 20 minutes in to the nearby city. The grocery store is about 2 blocks from our McDonalds and has premade food for like half the price

There is Activision offices there. There are KFC and DQ there. The market is currently pricing in a complete abandonment of all of these tariffs before year end save a few niche areas. The market is pricing in that Trump has conceded on his trade policies.

Buffett loves his restaurant (& food) stocks. I owned Dairy Queen when I saw that he was buying it outright...back when fractional dollar trading still existed and phoning in orders to a broker. (My broker didn't even know Buffett was buying DQ. That never ceased to amaze me.)
when I was younger working dead-end jobs, I didn't know about this my boss at Dairy Queen wanted to fire me ever since he asked me how I was doing and I was "ugh...hangin in there". He said it "wasn't a very DQ attitude". he told me to close the ENTIRE kitchen in 30 mins or less, including washing dishes and cleaning sink...easily a 90min job.....but I did it. I freaking DID it he was absolutely astonished. like praised me *repeatedly*. the guy was just floored. 30 seconds later, he walks into his office, hits print silently, then turns to me and says, '....so, unfortunately I am going to have to terminate your employment" once management wants you gone, you WILL be gone (unless you manage to turn the tables...I've done that twice, but those are stories for another day \^\_-). Anyway, I'm a senior engineer for a tech startup now, and this was 10+ years ago, but it was a lesson that sincerely stuck with me!
