I trade LXU, a chemical-agri company. Word is with the wars fertilizer is going up. Solid business and closed at $14.90 today. Also trade UAMY, the only antimony mining company in America. China is the dominant producer today, but Trump wants America to lead in producing since it is a critical metal Bad news is I bought it at $9.80 this morning and closed at $9.20. Both are solid companies.

Mentions:#LXU#UAMY

I kinda changed my strategy the first of the year. The market environment changed. Went to the big caps. That was a mistake. They havent moved too much. I started looking at small to mid size companies with good fundamentals and actual sales. Presently that is where I'm at, in those smaller stocks. UAMY is the only American company mining antimony, a critical metal that China dominates. Trump is wanting American companies to lead. Just this morning I purchased UAMY at $9.80 and if I had only waited till the close I could have bought at $9.20. Another stock I buy and sell is LXU. With the war they are saying fertilizer is going to up and this is a solid American company, based in OKC. I own these two, and relatively cheap, but solid. You might do some due diligence on the two and let me know what you think.

I wasn’t quite as bold as OP but still made 200% on LXU calls yesterday.

Yea it's why all the fertilizer stocks are up at or above their 52 week highs...if you want to gamble on them I would look at cheaper one so you don't lose your shirt or buy call that expires next 30 days and also buy a long put that expires later this year. Use the 5 yr chart as a basis because the last time most had their ATH was in 2022 following the ukraine war starting. Will give you an idea of how high some could potentially hit before they drop back down. NTR, LXU and MOS are some other ones.

Big trap for silver. Althought supply is constrained, demand isn't increasing nor is refinement. This is the stock drying up. Maybe there will be hype on the stock LXU but ultimately dont have high expectations on the revenu of the company. For gold idk.

IPI is the big small cap name. LXU has a fertilizer wing, but it's on the ammonia side of things. MOS is the big us name. There's also one name, FRPH that has mineral rights to some potash mines, bit also has a real estate business. Lots of insider buying recently too, including the CFO which is promising.

r/stocksSee Comment

Recently bought ADYEY and MELI, but both ran after earnings. CAAP still cheap. IBKR is still pretty cheap for a great company. A few financial services forms sold off recently on some pending rule changes, LPLA and AMP are two I can think of. Lastly, some odd value plays like HCC, HLDR, NFE are potentially cheap longer term. LXU and TDW too, depending on your forecast. These are some literally off the top of my head worth looking into.

Interesting take on LXU, found [here](https://x.com/StockCompil/status/1812848341186969679?t=zKlKSAkPyvVsqofq9v3Vag&s=19). This is one of those names that looks expensive, but the more I look into the company it looks extremely cheap. It also benefits greatly from cheap US natural gas prices, which seems like they are here for awhile, at least compared to ex-US prices.

>I always felt the inflation = good for low moat old economy stocks to be a very dubious proposition. It depends on why there is inflation. If the inflation is caused by shortages of the products those companies produce and the resulting price increases, it's really good for those old companies. >Even without multiple expansion, the best firms will continue to deliver double digit growth and therefore price appreciation. This is true, however you're also betting on no multiple contraction. If MSFT trades at 30x earnings in 5 years it will have to grow 30% just to counteract the multiple contraction. So that 10% annual growth only delivers about 20-30% stock returns over 5 years. If you think multiples stay this high or increase, than the biggest names certainly benefit. I think it's risky to assume big tech multiples can continue to expand in a non-ZIRP environment. Not impossible, but risky. However, LXU (one of the names Robotti mentions, I have no position on it) is trading at 4x future earnings. If it goes to 5x future earnings you get a 25% gain just on multiple expansion. And look what happened to the stock during the supply chain hiccups in 2022. And old economy stocks can do great. Look at homebuilders. They are completely transformed since 2008, basically following the NVR model of being asset light. They are cheap as heck, low debt, and buying up stock. And we still are short on housing.....

If anyone is interested in small cap names, my biggest position is LXU- a US based ammonium producer. The United States is positioned well for ammonium production- the spread in cheap US to high EU natty prices provides a good opportunity here. Germany is now facing structurally higher costs of production that are permanent, absent a deal with Russia, which cannot be allowed. The fertilizer plants and aluminum smelters shutting down across that continent are not coming back, because they are not economic to run. Check out the price action on LXU after the energy crisis in Europe really started hitting the Bloomberg Terminals. The initial spike was in February when the war broke out, then all the traders got out after the initial run with no immediate confirmatory news of Eurodoom. Then, once Eurodoom hit, up and to the right. The base tier stuff like Aluminum is necessary to all the other value add manufacturing. If that has to be imported at higher prices than before, the system doesn't work. Germany owns a Ferrari but ran out of gas.

You're asking a few months too late. European nitrogen fertilizer plants cannot run profitably with natural gas feedstocks at current prices. This idea has more or less already played out with $UAN, $LXU, $CF, etc. LNG regasification, liquefaction, transportation, and general infrustructure were all good ideas. Golar LNG and Tellurian are up 100%+ since Russia's invasion, Dorian LPG is up 50%+ including dividends. US natural gas is also just structurally more valuable. BSM LP, Range Resources, and Sandridge are big winners. Can these names continue to go higher? Probably. Is it as attractive a risk/reward as it was back in March? No. Financial markets are not perfectly efficient as French and Fama postulate, but they're *pretty damn quick*. You have to think about these situations and themes much more quickly.

I don’t know anything about Bayer specifically but ammonia nitrate requires Natural Gas to produce, and right now that’s an issue for Europe. US companies like LXU have all ramped up production because companies like SKW have had their production limited due to Nat gas shortages. Hopefully for your sake it gets worked out soon, but there doesn’t seem to be much progress on that front. I wouldn’t be surprised if all Euro companies have to shut down for significant periods of time this winter. If that happens, it’s just simple math on who will benefit most.

Makes no sense that $LXU is down 20% since earnings after two consecutive quarters that were the best earnings in the history of the company, and the CFO gives guidance they will exceed Q1 earnings in Q2 by an additional 50-70%. Meaning 3 consecutive quarters that in sequence are the greatest quarters in the history of the company, cash reserves increasing dramatically over each of the last 3 quarters already, and an incredibly bullish outlook over the next 18 months in the industry in general. I know, I get what you’re saying. I’m strictly looking at numbers though and it makes since. Most companies in the space are trading around 6x earnings. LXU isn’t even at a full year’s earnings. During Q3 last year (historically their slowest quarter cause it’s harvest season) they eliminated a large debt. In that process, they converted preferred stock and gave it away to shareholders as common stock. Correct GAAP shows that as a loss for the quarter so they technically had a negative EPS. However if you go deeper into the operations, they actually made good money in their slowest time of the year. Trading Algorithms aren’t calculating that. I know it sounds crazy, but P/E ratio should put it between 50 and 60 IMO. I could be wrong cause I’m just a guy, not a FA or even an analyst, but I did pay attention in finance classes.

Fertilizer is on the move this quarter: UAN, MOS, LXU, IPI, IPL, CF, NTR.... pick one and run with it as part of your portfolio. RIG is intriguing as a relatively cheap play on oil with lots of upside, but it might not kick in until after the quarter has ended. Add in some SOXL below $35, maybe some TQQQ, and something like UPST Do you get to include dividends and distributions in your "most money" calculations? If so then seriously consider a position in UAN.

On a serious note: LXU It’s a chemical producing company in the US that provides chemicals to farmers and miners. Fertiliser prices are skyrocketing and with food shortages it will only get worse. Mining is only going to be in more demand, with the lack of copper for EVs. The stock is up 80% in the last month and I reckon it can go higher still, not enough though to make up all your money though. And for obvious reasons, I’m not a financial adviser.
