Personnally, I reduced my USA exposure to around 20% from 50%.  I also recommend looking out for alternatives to QUU and VTI that are not supporting MAGA or GOP interests like ESGU, NULG or PRBLX.

You should never make investing decisions based on politics. I’ve had this same conversation with MAGA people during the Biden administration and democratic Americans now. You could have $100B and in no way effect the markets, so by making non-financial investing decisions your only hurting yourself. People almost always grossly over exaggerate the impact of political decisions on the economy. The economy is largely driven by which countries create the most innovative technology, which is still by a large measure the U.S. Proof it point: people freaked out during the initial Trump tariffs. Then literally nothing material happened economically. There isn’t even the inflation people were freaking out about. People who just ignored it did very well, those who sold and then reconsidered once it was swinging the other way did very poorly.

Here’s the real answer that isn’t fueled by Reddits sensationalism and extreme black and white views. There are two Trump supporters. The MAGA crowd who wants all of this to happen. They are racist and genuinely just angry people and Trump allows them to feel safe being this way. The other Trump supporters, and the vast majority of them, are just naive people who always vote republican. They either dont believe the dumb things he’s doing are actually occurring to the magnitude they are, or they just are unaware. Im a wealth management advisor so I have numerous older retired clients who genuinely have no idea what’s going on. They are super nice people and are very far from being a MAGA asshole. They’re just uninformed. What you said is spot on though. And it’s generally true for most Americans regardless of which way you lean. We Americans are quite selfish and focus on what benefits us and our immediate circle. We can still have empathy for others, and often do. But as a generality unless something actually affects us, we aren’t passionate about it. So until trumps idiotic moves come to fruition and really hurt the general population nationwide, we won’t see a wide spread uproar.

My concern is the potential (probably not just potential) generational MAGA attitudes. Look at what the Trump administration is trying to do about education. They want total control over it. Removing books that discuss history based on facts. Get rid of books that provide a history of slavery in the US rather than what some racists will teach their kids - “The textbooks in your school are wrong - slaves were treated well; they were housed and fed and not doing harder work than the white farmers and plantation owners did.” Not describing what amounted to genocidal treatment of the native Americans - instead emphasizing “good” stories like the first Thanksgiving with the local tribes. That those who are LGBTQ are evil and will try to convert you to their sinful practices. You’ve seen the videos of young children of different races happily playing together. Racism and discriminatory ideation is generally taught or learned from social media that promulgates these ideas. If the children of MAGA or other far-right parents teach their children the same ideas, it is likely they will grow up in the same “mold”. One preventive is having teachers who are allowed to teach based on factual history and science, not “alternative facts” and if children have access to books that are also fact-based and written in language that does not make the children feel guilty about what they have been taught by their parents or friends. Depending on where you live and the local community, you may see children of different races of ethnicities playing together and then pulled away from each other by their parents who tell them, “You shouldn’t play with their kind. They’re not like us. Their parents are criminals and drug users and they take our family’s jobs.” Yes, my concern is the generational passing on of these destructive ideas.

They can't be and won't be. It would take changing the entire media and social media sphere in the United States to have the type of change that people are talking about. Removing Trump does nothing; the GOP is complicit, the heads of all the major US companies are complicit, and heads and workers of every major media company are complicit, there are hundreds of AM talk radio and right-wing podcasters that are actively working to cause this same harm to America and the world. There is no changing or fixing anything without getting rid of all of those things. And none of those things are going to just go away without fighting. At best, you get the same mess of Reconstruction where radical Southern whites would fire bomb, lynch, and do everything they could to actively resist Federal law mandating equality. At worse it becomes an active civil war between multiple states. There simply is no other way that America changes at this point. Any attempt to change America now is going to be actively resisted by every single social media and media platform. MAGA and the average American will never change their minds when those claiming to be news reporters are actively telling them that they are correct and everyone else is literally Satan.

American here, I’m not sure how true that is even with MAGA supporters. I do know this, more inflation would only hurt the poor and middle class which is 80% of the population. The rich are so wealthy, the top 10% has $121 trillion compared to the poor and middle class (the bottom 90%) having $55 trillion. The rich might not even feel the sting while everyone else would be completely suffering. We’re already suffering. Personally, I can’t buy 35 items at the grocery store without spending $130, unless I want to eat poison. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the plan though, to have the rest of the world do the dirty work, so they can have more control over the majority. It’s not the American people you’re after. It’s not left vs. right like they want us to believe, and you can’t hurt the rich by going after the money without completely decimating the rest of the population. Please don’t spread this rhetoric. We're definitely not immune. I'm amazed how many Swedish trump-supporters I see whenever I open up a random comment-field on Instagram or Facebook. With that said, from my understanding we do have better guardrails. We generally do not concentrate as much power to one person like the US does (and I'm talking about pre-Trump). Still, we're obviously not immune, but it would be a lot harder to grab power in the same way that we've seen Trump and MAGA do the last year.

I have a hard time thinking of possibilities that MAGA could ever be swayed from their position. And any pain they might feel from these types of actions will just be used as fuel for more hatred towards the rest of the world. Exports grew modestly, which raises gdp a bit. But more importantly, imports dropped significantly (you know, due to tariffs and other trump admin fuckery) which subtracts *less* from the GDP in the GDP growth calculation. In other words, the gdp technically grew, yes, but we have less stuff to actually show for it. So did it really grow? It’s mechanical growth due to the calculation used to determine gdp, but it doesn’t actually indicate underlying economic activity growth. Not that I expect any MAGA folk to recognize that critical nuance, despite it being pretty centrally important to their belief that the economy is “doing wonderful under trump!”

Trump has not "sold" invading Greenland the same way he sold tariffs. Tariffs were sold to the public on the basis that other countries would be paying it, that they were taking advantage of American largesse, that it would bring quality jobs back to the U.S. Granted, that was all foolishness on many different levels, but it wasn't prima facie a foolish idea. You have to have some notion of economics to grasp why it doesn't work. For example, why does the tax incidence (not who pays the tax invoice) fall largely on the domestic consumer rather than the foreign producer? Invading Greenland is a whole other story. You want to own a piece of land that doesn't have anything that America doesn't already have. For what? To fight a security threat from Russia, which has amply demonstrated that it is a paper tiger? The Russian threat is primarily in the information space. Also, the administration is pro-Russia. Using Russia as a bogeyman seems off. Lastly, invading Greenland has very low approval, even from MAGA. A 30% drop? Highly unlikely, but let us see.

Had some great convos with the locals, and they were all very kind. But they are all quite concerned about the direction the USA has taken. I completely agree. I’m a second generation NATO veteran. I practically grew up in Brussels. As an adult, I would serve NATO directly. My father and I both spent significant portions of our careers at both SHAPE and NATO HQ and both as liason officers. I served in direct combat alongside and embedded with multiple NATOSOF units, including UKSF, Danish SOF, German SOF and several other NATO SOF units during multiple deployments to Afghanistan under ISAF/RS command. Needless to say, I know NATO inside and out. As does my father. That is not even true lol, its 6% average. Only Spain and Finland has 10%. Where I am from it's 4%. I would cite the US data, too, but we all know that it is fake and things are much worse there.
