I'm really not so sure. He's testing limits, and then backing off and declaring victory. It's a rinse and repeat cycle for him. I think they have this theory of just doing things and seeing what the consequences are, but then backing off when things get too hot. Greenland he's already backed off of, I don't think that happens again. Maybe there's more threats and rhetoric sure, but it's just words not action. That's why he's pushing so hard now, but I believe he's running out of gas and he knows it. Gas in this case being MAGA/GOP will to support him. Part of the reason why Greenland went nowhere (it was literally just bluster and talk) was because Senate Republicans had no stomach for it. They stopped him behind the scenes. Cuba could also just be a threat at this point. He's not actually going to do it because all of his other actions have proven too hot, his party could be losing their stomach for it and we're getting too close to the midterms. If there's a reason why his threats and action are so hot right now it's because of that, he knows his window is short. He needs to get things done before the midterms. After the midterms his strategy will be forced to change, he won't have a congress rubber stamping his actions anymore.

Its 100% the gas/oil companies taking advantage of the situation & inflating prices just to make a couple extra billion dollars. This has been a problem that has been happening for years. what I find so interesting is a couple years back gas went up like it always does in the summer and the MAGA crowd had a full on melt down that their trucks were costing $20-$40 more to fill up. This time around they've pivoted to claiming they don't even look at the cost when the fill up as if they've got enough money so that it doesn't matter they are now paying $100 or more to fill up that same truck.

Powell could drive rates to zero, and that won’t touch what’s going on in our upcoming fiscal crisis. At current course and speed, we are destined for a currency crisis in about 12-18 months. We are spending so much we will soon be borrowing just to pay the interest on the debt. That inflation the gold bugs have been screaming about for 20 years is about to come all at once. I’ve always been optimistic for the last 30 something years I’ve been investing, but we are well and truly fucked.

My main disagreement was with OP's tone of minimizing the disruption. All of the shut-in graphs I have seen contain time lines based on rerouting and storage fills. Nearly everyone, I think, is aware that there are workarounds to make up for some of the shortfalls. I have a few trends though: (1) MAGA accusing people of TDS and saying the Hormuz closure is fake news and not a big deal. It isn't, and it is. (2) Bad actors doing all they can to introduce noise confusion to minimize price. Whether these are intel ops or pumper/dumpers. (3) Those that don't understand that even 10mm BPD is fucking massive.
