They do rebalance the stocks in the portfolio at the same time as the underlying index, just not the leverage ratio. They can rebalance on longer periods. Some funds do, like SPYQ. Some benefits of rebalancing daily: 1. On any given day, new investors will have a clear understanding of their exposure. If you reset monthly or quarterly, the leverage ratio will drift away from 2x and investors would need to check the details to figure out what the current ratio is. 2. The drag in most normal periods may be higher when rebalancing frequently compared to rebalancing less frequently, but the risk of a complete wipeout is significantly lower.
Another week of this and it'll be relisted as SPYQ
I know of SPYQ as a quarterly resetting ETF. Do you have recommendations for the 1.5x and 2x monthly?
Nice! That was my plan but I lost and now I'm tempted to keep throwing money after lost money which I know is a poor plan so holding temptation at bay. I am curious about these longer ones like SPYQ, or MQQQ ones that reset monthly/quarterly versus daily - but feels like things are simply too volatile right now to do something like that as a layman.
 SPYQ incoming
That’s the opposite of how it works… individual stocks move more and SPY moves less because it’s averaging across 500 companies, not 100 (hence the name S&P 500). But regardless, that’s not even what they were talking about because SPY/SPX aren’t leveraged. ETFs like SPUU, SSO, SPYQ, SPXL, UPRO are leveraged ETFs that track the S&P 500
SPYQ might happen on Monday
His question was obviously much more basic than getting into nuances of daily resetting. I intentionally try not to respond to 1-liner questions with an entire essay On the topic though, I'm curious to see how funds like $SPYQ are gonna play out
SPXL / SPYQ, leaps on SPY, QQQ, VUG, VGT.
