I was getting worried too till I read a paper by Peter Gutmann (legendary cryptographer, currently professor at university of Auckland) , it's a bit of a heavy read but well worth it, you will gain a new understanding of where quantum "computing" really is, spoiler.... it's nowhere near where you think it is https://eprint.iacr.org/2025/1237.pdf For those that don't want to read the full paper > **Summary** > > **Aim** > The paper critiques claims of “quantum factorization breakthroughs,” arguing that the numbers factored (e.g., 15, 21, 35) are so trivial that they don’t represent meaningful progress toward breaking real cryptography. > > **Method** > > The authors replicate the same “quantum factorization achievements” using: > > an 8-bit VIC-20 home computer, > > an abacus, and > > a dog (Scribble), who “computes” factors by barking. > **Findings** > > All current quantum factoring demos involve carefully staged, pre-selected numbers that are easy to split by construction. > > No genuine computational advantage over classical methods is demonstrated. > > The authors show that these “records” can be matched or exceeded using humorous analog methods, exposing how meaningless such milestones are. > > **Core Argument** > Current quantum computing is not a practical computing platform but a physics experiment, more about demonstrating control over fragile qubits than solving real problems. > Claims about cryptographic threats are therefore misleading. > > **Conclusion** > Until quantum computers can factor numbers outside the trivial range (i.e., hundreds or thousands of bits, not two-digit integers), they pose no threat to cryptography. Present “breakthroughs” should be treated with skepticism. >

Feel for you OP. Maybe see if you can transfer this into a family trust structure w a trustee company and then you no longer “own” the BTC. It’s held in trust by a company that is a separate legal entity…DM me for some clarity on the above structure. I’m a qualified accountant here in VIC. Advice is obviously general and not financial advice. There would be tax consequences of the above to explore.

I'm glad you aren't just holding out for some unrealistic number that probably won't eventuate like a lot of the folks here. Good luck buddy. Sydney is rough. I'm in rural VIC with no chance of buying atm and your situation is 10 times worse there

Yeah, that volume isn’t exactly widespread. It’s pretty much all in pockets of NSW, VIC and maybe TAS?

You can probably short our Pints. I forget which way it works, but Pints and Schooners are different sizes in SA compared to VIC xD

Now that we are both in Australia, how comes? It’s just that the time may be 1 hour difference SA vs VIC? Lol
