BCAT - Blackrock Capital Allocation term fund, 20% dividend??

$BCAT trading significantly below NAV

You'd need to understand where the distributions come from. Unlike McDonald's, Pepsi, and Coke, which pay dividends from profits, BCAT is a fund that holds a portfolio of companies and sells covered calls on that portfolio, generating premium income (similar to funds like SPYI, JEPI, etc). So you can't quite compare their distributions equally. Second, the price stability is masking a NAV decrease. As the other commenters said, NAV is steadily decreasing even if price is the same or even increasing. CEFs can trade at a discount or premium to NAV, which is unlike most funds. So, if a CEF holds $20B in assets, it could trade as though it were worth $10B or $30B or anything else. If you look on CEFconnect or MorningStar and specifically look at the NAV versus price, you'll see a consistently dropping NAV, which is not good. So, it's essentially a slightly leveraged covered call fund trading at more than it's worth, eating away at its own NAV.

I am no CEF expert, but I see a couple of things when looking at BCAT on CEFConnect. over the last year or so, NAV has decreased and price has increased. in fact, the fund sold at a discount for four years, crossed into premium territory, and the premium just kept increasing. now a dollar of assets sells for about $1.06. looking at distributions, we see lots of ROC, which is consistent with a decreasing NAV.

If you want safe money invest in BDJ, BCAT, ECAT, BIT. BCAT,ECAT give the highest dividend, followed by BIT and BDJ, out of those 4 I think BDJ can appreciate most, but ECAT and BCAT give you more cash now

There are several strategies they use including buying enough shares to force a vote. They got Franklin Templeton not long ago and were talking about BCAT. You can follow and read Boaz Weinstein on twitter. He runs the company and you can read how they do it. There are also a few others Sava Capital Management is the big one.

I recently moved a lot of cash to BCAT for this reason. It was trading at a sixteen percent discount. Plus I figured Blackrocks global team can handle macro way better than I can for the next year.

Really should talk to a financial advisor. Might be a candidate for CEFs where it doesn't matter if nav fluctuates. Something like BCAT would be a good choice 50% bonds 50% equities with 20% leverage. Guaranteed monthly dividend of 6%. It' also does covered calls on the equity portion like JEPI to reduce volatility. NTSX would probably be safe for some one in her position also.

57% slowing of cognitive decline on a commonly used test but failed to show significant benefits on another scale. What tests did they use? Sounds like something like BCAT or similar failed to show improvement which is likely the better clinical indicator.

A couple that I have my eye on are IVOL (hedge against inflation bond etf) and BCAT (which is a trust with mixed assets run by Blackrock's fixed income guy, pays monthly dividends).

Being a CEF it shouldn’t dip below IPO price and don’t expect to move for few months. They will just have cash at ipo and start to invest over few months. CEF can trade above or below NAV and can are usually less liquid. I bought into BCAT IPO last year and it did well for the style - this was income/bond type with RIck Reider as PM. I will probably dip into it. Had been thinking about ARKK and BFTR, which are active funds so more transparent. BIGZ will add exposure to private and pre IPO space.
