Just form some lite reconnaissance on yahoo finance: Seems like it is a family owned business . They are looking at a $6.4b bill to really open up their mining holdings and cannot do that alone so they are looking for a joint venture (JV) partnership, and apparently they’re undergoing a banking feasibility study to enable such a agreement, and that between finishing a BFS and getting a JV the timeline is 2025 or 2026, and likely the price of gold being high helps accelerate that. I am not AI and I am a total regard , so that’s what 2 minutes of searching got me. Take with grain of salt.

DFS, BFS are like 60% of the problems.
No ofc not all of them, but others similar. I am not talking about using it for „some apps“ - we are looking for growth are we? That requires usage at a bigger scale. Most companies from my experience rely on AWS/Google and even saw Snowflake and PostgreSQL more often than MongoDB. When we talk about „normal databases“ oracle is from my perception mostly used. I have a strong focus on BFS, and yes, there I saw e.g. JPM, UBS, CreditSuisse, DeutscheBank, HSBC, Commerzbank, Bank of America & Blackrock. Ofc also other industries & companies from retail, logistics and manufacturing. Of course IT is mostly big and I might have missed it in the smaller spend. But I never saw high digit spend on MongoDB for sure. True is, this is not the Fortune 500 list, but for me this is representative. There is a reason why MongoDB is -14% YTD…. If you look it up, numbers are good, but Atlas disappointed where even a Q4 decline has been pointed out by MDB, and they have problems with legacy app modernization. For me MDS is currently overpriced and we are close to the high. This is of course my own „DD“ on the business and no financial advice, just my personal opinion.

I bought $10k worth at $69.05 back in March. They had $14/share in net cash per share, so really I was buying their core operations for $55.01. I am familiar enough with construction, BFS, Weyer, and LPX. I actually stumbled upon BCC looking into LPX. You are the first person I’ve seen to speak to their distribution segment, it’s really the backbone of the company in my opinion. No peer comes close to the scope and depth of their warehouse distribution network. The wood segments largest customer is the wholesale segment, so I really see them as a distributor and am surprised to see the first other comment speaking to this. Would love to pick your brain if you work for a supplier. I’ve made about 75% YTD on this (including the 12/15 $5.30/share dividend) so I’ve met about 4-years of my 15% CAGR target in a matter of 8 months.

I don’t recall inflation being a serious concern for them. It was never a topic at our big company wide sales meetings except in the context of what impact would be on the overall housing market, I.e., what interests rates might do. So now in this present commodities markets they are having to forecast way ahead since it takes so long to get orders from panel mills, forest operations and so on. I’ve even heard some mills are quoting PTS or priced time of shipment so you might bid your production builder basically guessing where the markets will be printing months from now when your order arrives. It’s risky business to be sure and many factors figure in. There was a time some years ago when my branch which did around 60M a year made a heavy bunch of buys and got it wrong. We were suddenly way overpriced in the market for months since smaller independent dealers didn’t have the space to load the wagon if so inclined. What happens in that case is that the yard losing moneys on all the production builder orders and guess who foots the bill- the custom builder. The guy who builds from 1-10 or so houses a year. Those guys have personal relationships with their sales professional and don’t do that much DD on whether they are buying at fair price levels. I dealt only with custom builders and got paid on margin so I had no choice but to r-a-p-e (retain all profits everyday) them when bad buys were made. I’ve seen the P and L s showing what we were making on production business and when you gross 10 points of margin with extended terms you aren’t making money on them. Yet we did make money- from the other side, the custom side. In my opinion BFS is over priced now. I was in on the IPO back in the day and eventually sold for a loss just to move on to other opportunities. Direct answer is yes they are locked in until the bid term expires. The commodities players are always looking for a chance to blame the weather or labor, a mill fire, etc., to increase prices and this pandemic is the perfect storm and they have exceeded what I thought could happen. Presently panels and dimensional lumber are 3-3-1/2 times higher than I ever saw in my 35 years of selling and managing yards. The home buyer ultimately foots that bill as it gets passed along. The fact that orders are difficult to put on the ground complete the first time by shortages and fuel and wear and tear are up is more than offset by the fact prices are so high. Typically panels, say OSB, are sold for 10% gross margin just as a 2x4x16’ is. With prices being three times higher now it’s easy math to see each order is producing much more GP than before. The GM is spoke with the other day was more frustrated with the excessive back orders and follow up required than lack of profitability. Oh they are making money they are just pissed it’s harder than ever before to do so. If interest rates spike and/ or this virus gets under control completely the bigger boys will see some red ink for a while. This isn’t financial advice I just think the stock has serious downside potential for me. Make your own decisions.

Overall, if the rest of the locations are like the few I spoke to, I think they will do well.
