I'm not sure why people think of ethics and governance as a handicap. These are different than regulatory barriers. What I am describing is more of a self governance scenario, which I think should apply to most industries in the US that are dangerous and/or highly susceptible to corruption. The government would set strict fines in the event a company steps out of line. The fine is paid by the entire industry rather than the individual company. Therefore, they have a shared incentive and responsibility to act appropriately and create their own universal guidelines in order to avoid being fined. So, for example, Ford, GM, Mercedes, etc, would all have a vested interest in how Tesla develops and deploys autonomous driving. The industry defines and adopts best practices in consensus and moves forward together. The government only comes into play when infractions occur.

Apple didn't go bankrupt. They came close- because a string of terrible CEOs had crippled the company. Chrysler and GM went bankrupt because they were- again- terribly run and outdated. Chrysler exists as name brand only- they were bought out by Fiat. GM exists only because they were too big to fail and the federal government stepped in. If you're trying to pretend bankruptcy is a normal part of the cycle for a competently run company...lol

Honest answer from an optimistic person: probably not in our lifetime. The only people that have the resources to make frictionless transactions occur with no fee, have not only no incentive to do so, but are making so much money on the status quo, that they have a vested interest in this NOT happening. Just like how there was an electric car in the 70s, but GM bought the patent and shelved it for 50 years, this is happening with payment processing. Not to mention that the US government has a program that takes patents from people that invent things so revolutionary that they threaten to disrupt the entire economy. They literally just take the patent, and shelf it because the innovation would cause too much disruption. It would take an entire team, to be as selfless as Satoshi to put massive resources into developing something that is easier and cheaper than the current processing companies. And they would have to release it open source, and then it would also need to have mass adoption.

The only way you can get a patent is to publish it. That is the entire point of the patent system. Plus GM don't make their money from petroleum products. So yes, this would be a ridiculous conspiracy theory.

If a dude figured out how to make a better car engine using cherries, GM would buy the technology. They'd patent it, make sure no one else can use it, and then make sure no one finds out about it. A small segment of the population would find out and raise the alarm. But they'd be ridiculed and called conspiracy theorists and GM's profits would continue

It's not only GM, a lot of car manufacturers do it. If you think every car has a unique key that only works with that specific car, you haven't been around enough. Now, with electronic keys, things may be different. I can tell you from experience. I had 2006 Nissan Titan and traded it 9 years later for a 2015 model, well, surprise, surprise, I still use the key from the previous one with the newer model.

Have a big ol 401k, plus more random accounts to dip in if I ever needed to. You only live once. I live my life thinking I needed to get to $2m before I took off to Italy. Then I realized money didn’t matter to me because I had more than most humans and didn’t have to be a slave to ineptitude. Gotta have faith I guess. It comes in all shapes and sizes…

Not sure about GM but the ford crown vic use to all use the same keys. My friends both bought retired cars and whenever one would lock their keys inside the other would just use his to unlock the door.

I've heard that there were some years when GM only produced three different keys for their cars. You could wander around a parking lot for a few minutes and easily find multiple cars you could start and drive away.

They have been here since the bear market. It is not a new project. They launched their first NFTs in Polygon. I don't know why they are moving Arbitrum. Maybe because they heard the Arbitrum governance is passing a $250 M budget for their gaming ecosystem. And now they want a piece of that pie? Grant hunting by projects is rarely ever good news. I had "high hopes" for this project initially because I saw it was done by Square Enix. Very soon I realize they are being advised by the same set of Web 3 advisor bozos and playing dumb Web 3 games. They wanted ppl to farm engagement on their discord by spamming GM GM GM every day. According to them, that type of activity is supposed to build "a sense of community". Bro, I can program a bot to do it for me. Instead of allowing everyone to get a character, they did this shitty auction mechanism and a lot of exclusivity to pump up the floor price. You people have no idea what a leader is. People are not equal in this world. Being able to put the right people together, make the hard choices no one else will, put everything on the line, and risk it all is something most people won't do. Many people who were key to his companies success also sold their stock early because they didn't believe in the companies he built. Many much larger companies given much larger amounts of money to achieve the same thing never have. Where's Boeings version of the Dragon Capsule? They got billions more and haven't came close. Where's SLS's landing rocket? Where's Google's starlink? Where's GM's Tesla? Money was never the issue. It's leadership.
