There was a reason we saw a run in the pandemic - many nations had lockdowns and people with more disposable income with furloughs and such & not travelling to work. Not everyone but many. There was also a huge sentiment especially on Reddit pushing crypto & meme stocks which saw the GME rise & AMC rises at the time. The market across the board has taken a dive because of his actions. It’s a good time to pick up stocks and such really & if you think Crypto is worth the value it was at before another good time to get it cheaper. I'm not sure why people think of ethics and governance as a handicap. These are different than regulatory barriers. What I am describing is more of a self governance scenario, which I think should apply to most industries in the US that are dangerous and/or highly susceptible to corruption. The government would set strict fines in the event a company steps out of line. The fine is paid by the entire industry rather than the individual company. Therefore, they have a shared incentive and responsibility to act appropriately and create their own universal guidelines in order to avoid being fined. So, for example, Ford, GM, Mercedes, etc, would all have a vested interest in how Tesla develops and deploys autonomous driving. The industry defines and adopts best practices in consensus and moves forward together. The government only comes into play when infractions occur.

Honest answer from an optimistic person: probably not in our lifetime. The only people that have the resources to make frictionless transactions occur with no fee, have not only no incentive to do so, but are making so much money on the status quo, that they have a vested interest in this NOT happening. Just like how there was an electric car in the 70s, but GM bought the patent and shelved it for 50 years, this is happening with payment processing. Not to mention that the US government has a program that takes patents from people that invent things so revolutionary that they threaten to disrupt the entire economy. They literally just take the patent, and shelf it because the innovation would cause too much disruption. It would take an entire team, to be as selfless as Satoshi to put massive resources into developing something that is easier and cheaper than the current processing companies. And they would have to release it open source, and then it would also need to have mass adoption.

It's not only GM, a lot of car manufacturers do it. If you think every car has a unique key that only works with that specific car, you haven't been around enough. Now, with electronic keys, things may be different. I can tell you from experience. I had 2006 Nissan Titan and traded it 9 years later for a 2015 model, well, surprise, surprise, I still use the key from the previous one with the newer model.

Being able to put the right people together, make the hard choices no one else will, put everything on the line, and risk it all is something most people won't do. Many people who were key to his companies success also sold their stock early because they didn't believe in the companies he built.
