I heard a story from a friend of a friend. They had a house in CA they bought for 600K and only $300K left on mortgage with low rate. They sold the house now worth $1million. Buddy had several racks in a coloration (data center where you rent space) in Texas. I'm in CA. We met through our respective jobs. He was paying sonething like 3 cents per kilowatt hour. The CA price for electricity made it a nonstarter. So I sent him a couple BTC miners and a few alt coin miners. I dont recall how much there was in the alt coins but I had 2.4 BTC in his private pool. Then he met this young woman who he hired. He came to town because he had a his disaster recovery / redundant data center/servers/data here. This lady clearly knew nothing about the industry and seemed like someone who had drug issues. I asked what the fuck she was there for. He said she was a fast learner and was helping a lot. He was clearly cheating on his wife. It happened fairly quickly. He left his wife and kids to go be a drug addict with this lady and abandoned his business. Seemed like he kind of fled to Canada. I saw him slip into it over maybe 10 months. He didnt seem like the type. Didnt drink. Nerdy guy who built an IT business. By the time I knew my BTC was in jeopardy he dissapeared. Last time I had any contact he haphazardly tried to extort some money from me. Was almost funny except I was out that 2.4 BTC plus alt coins he spent on drugs. Sad part about that was he probably got like 2k per coin. He had a really good business in tech that totally fell apart once he got into drugs. So yeah, lost 2.4 BTC to a disappeared. When BTC hit 120k I text him "how about that BTC price" lol, no response.

I wasn’t trying to imply that renewables are being built specifically to meet bitcoin mining demand. My point is that places like California and Texas have already reached the stage where renewable production regularly exceeds demand during peak production periods. Both states now curtail large amounts of renewable energy. Curtailing means that usable electricity is intentionally wasted because the grid cannot absorb it all at that moment. Sometimes that’s because total supply exceeds demand. Other times it’s more complicated: - transmission lines are saturated, - generation is occurring far from demand - or conventional plants can’t ramp down quickly enough without creating stability issues. Texas reportedly curtailed roughly 5–7% of its renewable generation in 2024, which is an enormous amount of energy. My argument is that Texas’s relatively favorable regulatory environment for bitcoin mining creates an additional buyer for power that would be otherwise curtailed. That potentially improves the economics of overbuilding renewables, because excess generation can still be monetized instead of wasted. That’s also part of why utilities have dramatically lowered payouts for residential solar sellback programs. If the grid is already saturated with midday solar, excess power becomes much less valuable. In California, large-scale additional solar buildout increasingly requires grid-scale storage to remain economically attractive, because excess midday generation often needs to be shifted into evening demand periods. In Texas, one alternative is that excess generation can sometimes be sold directly to flexible loads like bitcoin miners during periods where the grid itself doesn’t need the power, but in CA regulations are so tight, and popular opinion is so anti-bitcoin, that using bitcoin to mine excess power is probably not viable at scale, but it might be Texas.

It was one of the very first token contracts on Ethereum, predating the ERC-20 standard. A month later, he created **Unicorn Meat** ([0xED6aC8de](https://etherscan.io/address/0xED6aC8de7c7CA7e3A22952e09C2a2A1232DDef9A)) — another experimental token — along with the **Grinder Association DAO**, one of the earliest DAOs on Ethereum. The Grinder let you exchange Unicorns for Unicorn Meat, effectively the first onchain token swap. These were demo contracts for the Mist browser. good questions! honestly it's even safer than that.. basically a malicious chip can't force the SE050 to give up the key because that command doesn't even exist on the silicon. it's designed to be a one-way street, you send a hash in > you get a signature out.. the private key is physically stuck in there.. plus wth SCP03 encryption enabled, the traffic on the I2C bus is AES encrypted anyway. so even if someone man-in-the-middles the connection with a sniffer chip, all they see is encrypted noise and they wont have the session keys to inject anything valid. regarding confirmation, the easiest way is checking the digital attestation. the chip comes with a certificate burnned in at the factory. the app can just verify that cert against the root CA. if someone swapped the chip or put a fake one in the middle, that check fails immediately and warns you.
