Here’s why Aster (probably) isn’t a real disruptor: Will caveat by saying I’m not an Aster hater, and am happy people are making money onchain on a trade. I just think people are sort of conflating a cz / attention trade with a legitimate protocol-driven thesis. There are plenty of Aster shillers who see the trade for what it is, and hats off to them for killing it. It takes a bit of time, a lot of iteration, and a lot of execution to go from what the aster experience is today to what hyperliquid has built over the past 2+ years. Not going to go into all the nuances to keep it brief but running an offchain perps book with an onchain frontend is not rocket science. If you want to move all this activity onchain into a custom-fit L1 with a HyperBFT like consensus it’s not easy lol. If you want to be like Hyperliquid and actually lead in the DEX space by creating net new and liquid perp markets and spot markets on an onchain order book it’s even harder. Reminder that all of these players are benefiting from Hyperliquid creating the actual onchain liquidity for these long tail perps as a first mover. It’s a whole other thing to operate in uncharted territory and ship net new liquid pairs like HL has consistently done over the past 1.5 years. People are complaining that HL doesn’t have enough validators but you try finding 20+ external validators willing to colocate with you while upkeeping this kind of performance. Then try to make your infra accommodative enough to allow makers to maintain tight spreads on a $PUMP pre-market perp while hosting everything onchain. I am not saying Hyperliquid cannot be disrupted. In fact I expect it to happen at some point. As I’ve repeatedly said, we rarely see an incumbent maintain 90% share in a space moving as fast as crypto. But when you look at precedents for the disrupter thesis, whether it’s Solana vs. Ethereum, USDe vs USDT/USDC, hl vs dydx etc., there is one thing you almost always see play out: The disruptor launches with a 10x better product and/or a completely differentiated design principle. The problem with saying Aster is going take time to get better is Aster does not have the same luxuries as Hyperliquid did. Jeff could spend 2 years improving the product because there was no decent alternative. Those trying to disrupt Hyperliquid have to launch with a BETTER product within the first few months. Because hyperliquid exists now lmao. When I look at other potential hl disruptors I see teams trying to be faster, more trust minimized, more differentiated on day 1 of mainnet. Alot of these disruptors are taking incremental design principles - building as dedicated rollups, using an SVM client, maintaining composability with broader ecosystems, offering multi-asset margin, reshaping toxic flow patterns, changing sequencing rules, among other needle movers. At least for now I don’t see much of this happening for Aster. So do I think $ASTER ‘s price can flip $HYPE ‘s because of cz, supply control, incentives and narrative? Sure. But imo you’re fooling yourself if you believe this is a real disruptor in any way shape or form. It’s incredibly easy to game volume these days. The rally is definitely influenced by the DAT buying but that buying is also likely influenced by good fundamentals. Outside of ETH it's the only chain that really has "bluechip" projects, like Jupiter, Jito, Kamino, Phantom, PUMP, even PENGU as a memecoin could be considered a bluechip with the backing behind it. The All In summit just happened and Solana had a presence there. This also leads up Solana's own Breakpoint conference in December, where price action has historically been really good. I believe Solana has 17 different ETF's pending right now, so that's another catalyst. There are technical upgrades which will make Solana noticeably better like the Firedancer client, Alpenglow consensus upgrade, the Block Auction Marketplace, new more efficient token standards allowing more throughput and DoubleZero connections backing more validators. Traditionally Solana has been the leader in DePIN and that continues to be true, with projects like Helium, Render, Hivemapper, GEODNet, etc. tldr: flows are driving the market but the fundamentals influence the flows, they are overwhelmingly going to the projects that have substantial traction, btc as SoV, ETH/SOL as widely used general purpose L1s, HYPE as an insanely profitable exchange, etc.

I think Ethereum will further its lead a bit in the near future as it becomes the natural next adopted asset by tradfi and sentiment is shifting positively after the last few years and I think Solana will still keep improving but what might close the gap is when a lot of these l2s start shutting down, as there's only a handful that are getting significant usage. We basically have the Arbitrum stack and the OP superchain competing for 99% of the L2 usage on ethereum, anything outside of that could easily become irrelevant over time. And even the projects within those two ecosystems might struggle, things like Ink(Kraken L2)or Sonneium(Sony L2) who were touted as big gets for Ethereum are basically irrelevant at this point in time. IIRC Base is actually considering leaving the op super chain, so the L2 landscape on Ethereum while growing significantly, could become a very contentious space where we see a few winners and a lot of losers and that will definitely hurt the sentiment of Ethereum. So while the L2 space is definitely growing, it's not really growing in a sustainable way, for the l2s themselves, at least. On the other hand, Solana has both the Firedancer client and the new Alpenglow consensus coming and is doing more traffic than the rest of crypto while keeping fees low and is starting to find PMF as the "decentralized NASDAQ" it originally set out to be. So it's not as if Solana is in a bad place right now. It's doing quite well, but the sentiment is definitely shifting in the favor of Ethereum and chains like Hyperliquid have taken a lot of the mindshare away from Solana. But if the PUMP ico is any indication, we might see the next wave of the ICO craze and it would be foolish to think it would happen anywhere that other than Solana at this point, with $500,000,000 of the funds being raised onchain, rather then on the CEX's who had issues dealing with the traffic. Tldr: both are in good spots but both will have growing pains, although nothing is close enough to really challenge either of them. I've been saying for years it's a two-horse race and it still seems that way.

You seem to simultaneously think you know what the market is doing but you also seem to think it's quite random, but it's not hard to see a lot of what is moving different coins. Bitcoin has always led the market and as much as this sub hates to admit it, Trump has been extremely important in that with legislation and appointments and obviously with the 3 acts that we're trying to be passed this week. Tradfi is starting to come around to Ethereum, which combined with its underperformance the last few years is letting it rebound strongly. Meanwhile, Solana outperformed in the same time span but is now lagging behind a bit because of Hyperliquid taking a lot of the mind share and market share of traders. Things like the massive success of the PUMP ico, raising $600 million in just 13 minutes with $500million of that happening onchain on Solana and the approval of the first staking ETF are helping Solana catch back up. Speaking of Hyperliquid, it's been easily the best performing large cap alts since airdropped 6 months ago and because of that outperformance people are starting to take profit and rotate into other things, despite Hyperliquid still doing quite well in usage and revenue generation. We're also seeing a lot of the things that are outperforming tied to either ETFs or crypto treasury vehicles. The market has matured a lot, it's not the same it has been in past cycles even though there are some similarities. But if you think it's whack-a-mole and your best reasoning is that the coin you hold is just going to go up eventually because every coin is going to have its day, then good luck with that, sounds like a foolproof investment thesis.
