For an apartment WTH? Then it occurred to me that its a solid place to park 110,000,000$, becasue 5 years from now there will be someone who wants to park 130,000,000$ in your parking spot. That kind of money cant be deposited, cant be left in cash, Gold sucked for along time as an appreciating vehicle. So mahattan apartments it is. Then comes along bitcoin, it starts out as nothing, just a toy token to reward miners, you would have thousands of them and no value, then it slowly started to be sold and that kept going to produce a market value that could be measured, and it kept changing hands over and over and over again which created the market and the demand slowly increasing created the price discovery, so during this time it became a known and trusted thing, that was rare and simple to own, obscure but slowly it emerged as valid store of value more so then a currency. It strips away all the expenses of other dollar parking spots, its easily transported, sent thru fiber optics at the speed of light, instantly settled, and liquid. It at this point is the most sought after dollar parking spot of all time. The service I’m referring to allows for getting a check at home or even in a mobile app. Printing a check at home doesn’t make the deposit more difficult. Most checks these days are deposited via some kind of mobile deposit/camera, which doesn’t utilise the magnetic MICR printing. Take a look at the services I mentioned in my OP AB’s you’ll see how they work. The banks will still accept the check even without magnetic MICR printing. They have optical scanners too. The use case is that someone wants to avoid having a traditional bank account, but still has the occasional need to pay for something with a check, like I explained previously. The service I’m referring to would allow someone to print a check at home, paid for with a credit card, then mail that check, hand it to the payee, or text/email it as a PDF. The service, as far as I have found, exists for businesses to pay vendors and other businesses, or for individuals to pay some businesses, but not for individuals to pay just anyone (including schools).

Recently moved my Roth IRA over to Fidelity as well, managed to catch FETH at its lows and that makes about 20% of this account. 50% of my overall portfolio is in these ETFs, another 2% in CEPO because of AB, and total exposure goes up to 80% counting other crypto/digital asset holdings. While your ROTH has no tax liabilities, losing it also means you cannot deduct losses against your income. The taxable portion of capital gains are taxed exactly the same way as regular income, and is combined with it. This is a summation of several different tax bracket amounts and rates including / up to the marginal tax rate. The marginal tax rate is simply the final one. ALL capital gains are considered income, so that means your marginal rate goes higher when you add the taxable portion of them to your employment income. Or vice-versa, since the order is unimportant. It would be just as accurate to say that employment income is taxed at the marginal rate. The higher your combined taxable income, the higher rate you pay. Yes, the marginal tax rate is of course higher as the income becomes higher. That's why people with higher incomes pay higher taxes, in theory. This is not in dispute, although I admit I wasn't very clear about it. It's simply easier to refer to average rates since they include the marginal rate portion already by definition, and the average rate is what we actually pay. And so I don't have to do all the summation for each example. But the key factor is that capital gains are not FULLY taxed, while employment income IS. The capital gains inclusion rate is the only portion that is taxed. So your average tax rate that you actually pay (total tax paid divided by total income) actually goes DOWN in most cases where you add some capital gains to employment income. Dramatically so, compared to equivalent pure employment income (see examples below). This, despite the marginal rate increasing. Basically, this means you end up paying less tax on capital gains than you do on employment income. Here's a much better calculator to help run some examples. It handles regular employment aka "other" income, capital gains (pre-and post- 2024 rule change), average rate, marginal rate, and shows all provinces to boot. Case 2: If you then add $250k in capital gains on top of that $125k employment income (post June 24 rule change), that average tax rate actually drops to 21.8%. The dollar amount paid goes up, the marginal rate goes up to 47%, but the average rate we pay goes down. Case 3: For comparison, let's consider an alternate reality where we earned a much higher employment income but had no capital gains, for the same overall total income of 125+250=$375k. In this case, our average tax rate leaps up to 37.5%. Marginal rate barely moves to 48%. We have to pay far higher taxes for the same total income, compared to Case 2. Interestingly, on a million dollar capital gain the average tax rate paid only increases about 5% due to the 2024 rule change on inclusion rates. And no increase on $250k, of course.

Your online tax calculator example was for Alberta, but it spits out wrong results for all the other provinces too. So it's still definitely wrong. Of course none of the calculators take into account every person's unique deductions, they just do the basic ones everybody gets. It can't give the other various case-specific deductions to anybody to reduce their effective tax rates, so the result we see is probably a bit higher than average paid. Not lower. For the $125k income example we have been discussing, the TurboTax calculator shows that AB average tax rate is indeed lower than Canada's average, but not by much. BC, NT, and NU are all lower than AB. No province has anything over 30%: AB 24.43% BC 23.55% MB 28.63% NB 27.90% NL 28.43% NT 23.82% NS 30.15% NU 21.88% ON 25.61% PE 29.58% QC 29.71% SK 26.31% YT 23.55% Average by province: 26.43% "The government feels entitled to almost 50% of any extra money you make." You sound pretty salty for somebody who makes "way less than $125K". If your income is $80k, then your *combined* federal and provincial marginal rate is like 30%, and you actually pay around 20%. You'd have to be making over 3 times as much income to see marginal rates even close to 50%, and then you'd actually be paying 32% average.

Mostly because I was early on those projects so my cost basis is very low 80% of my crypto port has been in stable coins since over a week ago.
