If it's a gift in the USA anything after $14,000 (not sure if this figure is exact or changed since last I looked) at the time of giving the gift is taxable. This is an annual limit. Paid by BF. As such, Bitcoin have have slight advantages in that regard and it will just be a matter of time for big countries with big reserves to adopt Bitcoin as reserve asset. Some small countries like Bhutan and El Salvador have adopted bitcoin for their reserve asset.

I mean worst case scenario you got yourself an ambitious guy who keeps pushing toward his goal and trying to learn about it. Best case scenario he turns out to be right. Every situation is unique though. One question id ask is what are the terms of the loan. Saylor borrowed money at a low interest rate and he cant be liquidated as long as he keeps making the payments. That seems relatively low risk. Idk what your BF did, hopefully something similar I guess. Personally ive always been avoidant of loans, which in a lot of ways is probably a hindrance like I went to a cheaper school cause I didnt want to borrow money for example. Something about loans is theres not just the material cost: the interest and the payments. Theres also the mental cost, which I always imagined would be worry, anxiety, and just in general youre not thinking clearly. Sort of like if you had to use the bathroom really badly you might behave differently. If you have a big loan hanging over your head, in can change your ability to think clearly or rationally. On the other hand.. theres people who have strategically used loans to do incredible things.. George Soros and the pound comes to mind.

Your last sentence is what I mean. The US has approved Bitcoin ETFs — there was already big money in ₿ and now there’s even bigger money and bigger players. I started off with the book “the fiat standard” which is a “sequel” of sorts to the bitcoin standard. You likely understand the concept of inflation to some degree - “The Fiat Standard” will scare the shit out of you even if you thought you already knew how much inflation and money debasement is. And to understand how ₿ is better money “the bitcoin standard” does a good job of explaining the complex implications of bitcoins simple design. Your BF probably doesn’t need to spend that much time reading about bitcoin, seems like he overdoes it. But he’s not wrong about his convictions, and at a valuation of less than 1% of the global wealth, price discovery is likely to trend upward. With the money printing we have around the world - if ₿ stays the same relative value to real world items - its price goes up indefinitely. It’s not that the price of ₿ goes up, it’s that you get to see how fast the buying power of a dollar goes down.

Just take a look to see what 200+ different tokens Vitalik holds - all were sent to him without his consent, and once he even donated billions of dollars of Shiba to India which was 'burned' using his address (again, as free marketing material).
