I agree, I spent almost 10 years managing an FS Analytics department, Crypto might be very young in comparison but we've already seen three clear cycles, despite highly varying situations. History might not repeat but it certainly rhymes. With Bitcoin leading the pack and the halving being baked in, I don't see why you'd bet against it, especially as anyone with a crayon could look at the 100 years Dow Jones chart and identify the boom and bust periods. I guess only time will tell.

My apologies, I confused IBM with Intel > I assumed 10W/chip to produce a 500GH/s output That's unlikely, because only the 5nm chips from the S19XP are as low as 21.5 Intel's announced chip was somewhere around 36, but they also had a vague announcement about a "version 2", which isn't made by Intel, but is supplied by Bitmain, the 5nm chip from the S19XP Here, they're labeled BZM1 and BZM2 https://www.anandtech.com/show/17218/intels-next-gen-bitcoin-asic-called-bzm2-built-on-7nm-137-gigahashsec-at-25-w This article was published before the ISSCC conference. The announcement at the conference had different figures again (higher than 30) BZM1 is a 7nm chip, and Bitmain's 7nm chips consume about 30. So the Intel 7m chip isn't going to run at 18 BZM2, in later articles, is nothing more than Intel buying the Bitmain 5nm chip - not necessarily a bad thing, since Bitmain has a monopoly. They consume 21.5J/TH In this press release, Intel is claiming 26 https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/newsroom/news/intel-launches-new-intel-blockscale-technology.html I suggest that's optimistic They appear to be deliberately omitting details of the engineering, probably to avoid comparisons which would reveal that their chips are equivalent to 2018 Bitmain chips If you could get a supply of 5nm ASIC chips direct from Bitmain, you could own the market in 1TH/sec and 2TH/sec cards My cooling comment was about 100-chip cards. That's equivalent to a quarter of a S19 box, which has approx 100 chips per card on 3 or 4 cards. In a S19 box, they're cooled with two high flow-rate fans at the back and 2 at the front. A PC case doesn't have enough holes See the cooling requirements for the GekkoScience USB. > In a long-term bitcoin vision, how do we see this problem being addressed? I see a price collapse putting hundreds of thousands of miners out of business, and a secondary market flooded with S19XP devices I see a cottage industry, tweakers breaking apart S19XP boxes and putting 2 or 4 chips on a card - USB or PCIe - and selling a 4 chip 2TH/sec card for $40 There is something similar already available - but it's based on obsolete chips from S17 devices, and a 2-chip USB stick costs $200 for 300GH/sec https://www.amazon.com/GekkoScience-FS7-Bitcoin-Efficient-Powerful/dp/B09HYQT4PT In 2021, squareblock Jack Dorsey announced a home miner. My point is that the American government doesn’t need CBDC to make the American banking sector look like the American postal service sector. If that’s what they want to do, they could do it tomorrow using their existing FS institutions. And if you look outside of the US, the postal service isn’t nationalised everywhere. In many countries it looks more like the American banking sector than the American postal service sector. My understanding of the ECB’s and banks’ view of CBDC (I work in TradFi in the EU) is that it comes with clear use cases and efficiency gains for wholesale, but not so much for retail clients. I recently read an article where they had asked a bunch of heavy hitters in the financial sector in Europe about the future of finance. Only 13% thought CBDC would have have a big or significant effect on the finance sector within ten years. And that’s pretty much in line with my view. There’s a lot of talk about controlling finances, being able to give out benefits which you can’t use for whatever (kind of like food coupons), and so on. But the most basic things aren’t even on the table yet. How do you solve depository services for retail? Payment services? I’m often met with silence when I bring it up in meetings with CBDC believers. I think CBDC will be wholesale only, perhaps leak over to corporates. But for the everyday consumer? I honestly think Lightning is much closer than CBDC as a replacement.

Ah okay, so yea all states have business regulations for biz licenses so that makes sense. But NY would not have any say in public financial statements, other than the fact that the FS may say they adhere to the regs and laws of that state. Like a lot of states will have net worth requirements for business licenses and various consumer protection regs, but auditors wouldn’t look at that. I mean coinbase is not even HQ in NY, it’s in cali but it will have a business license to operate in every state and they all have small regs for that but it would have no impact on publicly available financial statements

If by wiped all you did was reformat the drive, then the files are still there. What is missing is the directory entries that point to them, specify their names, sizes, nodes if fragmented, etc. A forensic app can do one or both of the below to find the files: 1. Rebuild the directory structure (file system) itself. Possible even if you reformatted and created a new, *but smaller*, one on top. This will show you your files. 2. Let you walk the sectors yourself looking for magic bytes that signify file types, or strings of hex/text that you know to be in particular files. Often once you find file A, you know B and C are nearby, and if the files are not sparse file types you can easily see where they end (padded 0s to the end of a sector) Then it can extract the data from the drive. If you don't have the FS metadata (#1) the file size probably is not known, so be careful when extracting the full file - some file types will not execute/display properly unless the size is exact. Dlls and exes are like this, but they can be found online often to compare true size. 15 years ago I reformatted an NTFS drive and recreated the partition on it like a nub, and "lost" everything. I couldn't find any trial versions of forensic software that would help, and wasn't willing to plunk down cash for the possibility the paid version could. But with a week of reading NTFS docs I was able to do #1 to an extent and #2 completely. I wrote my own little C app to walk the FS and print out the wheres and whats about each file in human-readable format, which I then touched up where parts were missing, and a perl script used that as input to find and extract data in each sector into real files on a new drive. Good luck!

Honestly no clue. My guess is that institutional banks will buy funds from fund managers that offer exposure to BTC like they have been, to offer it to their investment clients. Look at FS Investments work with NYDIG for example and how they sell their BTC product through Morgan Stanley. As for operational cryptos, again no clue, but it appears Ripple has been marketing to governments about their ability to help them stand up CBDCs. And they’ve worked with banks in Japan to enable better cross border payments. But I’m honestly not sure how that would affect the price of XRP if at all.

> impossible to stop POW Right > Does this mean that only large scale miners would close shop Maybe. It's really silly to suggest that "all governments" could cooperate on anything Also, there are large scale facilities in Siberia, where abandoned Soviet-era power stations have been recommissioned only to mine Bitcoin. These facilities are independent of the power grid, self-sustaining. Maybe the Russian government might restrict the supply of fuel. But even there, some of the power stations are co-located with the coal mines which supply their fuel On a smaller scale, but still industrial scale, there are miners burning flare gas from oil extraction. Again, they're self-sustaining, not connected to the grid, using fuel which would otherwise be flamed for no productive use Large-scale miners whose activities impact the grid they're exploiting are being restricted or banned by the local authorities or local power generator in places where they set up. This has been happening since 2017, where hydroelectric generators quickly banned Bitcoin mining in places like Iceland, New York state and Quebec province because they soaked up more than a reasonable portion of the available power > not so powerful laptops will be able to mine like the old days? Absolutely not. If mining becomes viable for small-scale in-house use, home miners will use small ASIC devices, like the Futurebit boxes, or these USB miners which have 2 recent-model ASIC chips on them https://www.amazon.com/GekkoScience-FS7-Bitcoin-Efficient-Powerful/dp/B09HYQT4PT

Save a penny .. lose a dollar .. story of my life. That said, I'm thinking about pivoting to rents for the next few years while the market recover. I'm thinking with the high interest rate and unaffordable housing cost ( price drops don't make the house more affordable unless you have all cash ). That means lots of renters and rental market should stays relatively strong compare to sales. That's plan B anyways. Plan C, aka worse case scenario, I am forced to rent it another 10-15 years by which time I'll be old enough to prop 19 it to a forever home and keep the low tax basis.

Bernie madoffs organization was not publicly traded and there was little oversight. Again I am not sure you understand what an PCAOB audit is. This is an audit of the firms FS. You keep saying it’s a profit and loss audit but that is not a thing. The audit will cover all GAAP financial statements which include p/l but also include balance sheet, statement of cash flows and notes to the financial statements. Any financial statement line item in these documents are audited. This means the balance sheet, where it says cash segregated for the benefit of usdc holders is audited. So where it says 4b of cash held, that means that auditors have traced the funds. Every single public company goes through this audit and it is the basis of trust for the financial markets. Look at what will happen to the price of a stock when auditors do not furnish a report. You will never get a break down of the exact numbers you want like the money market fund you showed. It’s not required by law. The sec regulates any companies public or planning to go public, and circle has complied with these regulations. You can look at the bs and the fsli item I told you to look at to see how much circle has on hand to back usdc. Additionally, you can read the notes to the financial statement which they state they hold dollar reserves 1:1. The report is audited by an independent third party. If you don’t believe this report then you don’t believe that any companies financial reports traded on the market. Look up what a pcaob audit is, it’s not that difficult. It seems that you are very unfamiliar with the audit process and I think you should start there, you will gain more comfort over the document I showed you after learning more.

When auditors conduct an audit, they will break down each FSLI item on any FS. Meaning that they have audited any numbers on the BS, IS, SCF and notes. This means that the usdc held for customers is audited. Meaning the auditors have dug into the line item and acquired proof of the necessary audit assertions. For cash this would be completeness and accuracy

I don’t think you know what equity method of accounting is. I also have no idea what you mean by joint venture. This is an audit of circle internet financial. It’s a distinct entity from CB. They would not do a “joint venture” audit, I don’t even know what that is. Circle is it’s own entity and going public. Also if your looking for a breakdown of specific FSLI items you have to read the notes to the FS at the bottom. The first note literally talks about cash. Additionally you said they don’t break down cash equivalents. Cash equivalents mean short term paper. This can be cash, CDs , t bills, t notes less then 12 months, MM funds. You can’t just have random stuff and call it cash equivalents. It had to be equivalent to cash

Their FS for FY20 is LinkedIn above. The usdc is audited. Additionally some comment above said it was not 1:1 because “us gov securities” backed the rest and not cash. I’m intrigued to see how the gas prices of the decentralised storage (Neo FS) will be paid through the linkage and in what form it will be paid. Side note: can’t believe I’ve seen an article about Neo on r/cc

I used to hold this view as well. I imagined that all the idiots that lost all their money on scams would eventually leave the market and only the strong and questioning minds would remain. I now believe that most all humans (self included) are dumb as a box of rocks. The general dumbness of the human species will eventually be a barrier to adoption of cryptocurrency. The only simplified options are centralized custodial one, which ultimately erode the decentralized nature of the ecosystem. There was [money for smart people](https://ei.marketwatch.com/Multimedia/2017/08/14/Photos/NS/MW-FS331_bitcoi_20170814181402_NS.jpg) that makes a tounge-in-cheek stab at this, but it's just become more true every day. Yes, I wish people weren't so dumb. No, they will never become smarter.

What are people’s thoughts on FantomStarter ($FS)?

I haven't had any issues because I've played it in my own game. But one mistake FS was when I had $6 worth of Celo to begin with. It was $2 a piece but I've swapped it for different coins like REN and Ox. Now looking back this year... Ehh I don't feel that dent (it went up to $5 the last time I've checked) because I really didn't buy a bunch from the start this year. I just HODL until I sense some lackeys around the project. So far I've profited a few from mana this year at least. HODL that since February.

One thing im noticing after never watching US congress stuff before is that most people there are coffin dodgers? Or is it just the FS people that are old?

No. And I know this because RH is publicly traded now and their Financials are public record. If it was an IOU they would have a big liability on their BS, which they don't. They spell out in their notes that they match buyer/seller and custody the BTC on behalf of their customers. And before your knee jerk reaction is "but they just lie!" I'll point out that part of being publicly traded requires 3rd party auditors attesting that their FS are accurate. There is a whole industry around creating Public confidence in listed companies, which was beefed up dramatically post Enron. Not shilling RH, but calling it "fake" just because you can't currently get the keys is inaccurate.
